INSTALLATION

LOCATION OF THE EQUIPMENT

  • During operation, position the equipment in a stable manner, resting it on a horizontal, flat surface. Do not obstruct the side openings for cooling the equipment.

FUNCTIONING

SWITCHING ON THE LCD DISPLAY (FIG. A-1 or B -1) AND ACTIVE DISPLAYS

  • Press any one of the buttons (Fig. A-6,13,14 o B-6,13,14) to switch on the display and show the residual capacity of the battery “%”.
  • Start the various output ports / sockets pressing the corresponding key: the autonomy is displayed in hours planned and the power supplied in Watt as well as the symbol of the energised source (AC, DC, USB).
  • Enable the charge powering the input port (Fig. A-15, B-15): the remaining charging time is displayed in hours and the charging power in Watt.

SWITCHING OFF THE LCD DISPLAY

Backlighting of the display remains enabled as long the equipment is running or charging. Backlighting switches off after 30 seconds approx. of inactivity. The display switches off definitively (STANDBY), after a time of approx. 1 minute, only when all the output ports and the sockets have been disabled (AC, DC, USB icons off).

ATTENTION

  • If the output ports are NOT disabled (icons off), POWER UP continues to consume energy and discharging the battery for 6 hours before automatically entering STANDBY mode!

USING THE EQUIPMENT AS A POWER AND/OR CHARGING DEVICE

  • Enable the display pressing any button.
  • Enable the output ports and/or sockets pressing the corresponding buttons: the corresponding icons are on and the ports are live.
  • Connect the devices to energise or charge.
  • Check on the display the residual operating time estimated and the power supplied.
  • Disconnect the devices when finished using them.
  • Disable the output ports and/or sockets.

ATTENTION! During continuous operation, POWER UP cannot supply over the rated power (see specifications) and automatically reduce the output voltage in AC to allow normal operation of the other devices connected. However, in the event of excess overcharge, POWER UP will to protection mode and the power supply is shut off.

USING THE LED LIGHT

Press the button (Fig. A-3, B-3) to enable the low intensity continuous led light.
Then, press in sequence the key to change the operating mode and obtain:

  • medium intense light;
  • very intense light;
  • stroboscopic light;
  • emergency signalling;
  • switch off light;

USE OF POWER UP WITH STARTER CABLES (FIG. C, ACCESSORY ON REQUEST)

Follow all the safety instructions outlined in this manual and in the instruction sheet supplied with the cables.

ATTENTION: implement the instructions while strictly following the order outlined below!

Always prevent the black and red clamps from touching each other or a common cable!

  1. Make sure the vehicle or boat to be started is switched off (switch or ignition key in the OFF position).
  2. Connect the starter cables (Fig. C-1) to the Power UP socket (Fig. A-4, B-4).
  3. Ensure the green led (Fig. C-3) is off.
  4. First, connect the red clamp POS. (+) to the battery terminal POS. (+), then connect the black clamp NEG. (-) to the vehicle chassis or the battery terminal NEG. (-).
  5. Follow the instructions of the leds provided by the cables:
    • green led (Fig. C-3) on: the connection is correct and you can start the engine.
    • Green led (Fig. C-3) flashing: the vehicle battery is almost flat; press the BOOST button (Fig. C-4) and wait for the green led to stay always on; start the motor within 30s.
    • Red led (Fig. C-2) on and acoustic warning: poles inverted! Disconnect the clamps and connect them to the battery as described in point 4.
    • No LED on: check the correct connections of the clamps to the battery and only then press the BOOST button (Fig. C-4) and wait for the green LED to remain on; the vehicle battery may be damaged; start the engine within 30s.

After a successful start, with the engine running, follow the sequence of instructions below with great care:

  1. Disconnect the black clamp (negative) from the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the red clamp (positive) from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the starter cables connector from Power Up.

You are recommended to charge the Power Up as soon as possible.

WARNING: failure to follow these rules may compromise the operating life of the equipment:

  • Turn the vehicle ignition to the start position for no more than 3 seconds.
  • If the vehicle or boat does not start, wait at least 15 seconds before trying again.
  • If the vehicle or boat still does not start, wait at least 2 minutes before trying again.

CHARGING POWER UP

Important

  • To achieve maximum POWER UP performance, charge before use, after each use and, in any case, at least every 3 months.

CHARGING VIA MAINS POWER SUPPLY UNIT (FIG. D)

  • Connect the power supply unit supplied to the electricity mains (check compatibility with the electricity mains of the power supply voltage on the power supply unit data plate).
  • Connect the cylindrical jack of the power supply unit to an input of the Power Up (Fig. A-15, B-15, D-1).
  • Check the charging time on the display and leave for the full time necessary (max 8 hours).
  • Disconnect the power supply unit when charging is complete.

CHARGING VIA CHARGER CABLE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES (FIG. E)

It is however possible to charge the unit on the vehicle:

  • connect the jack adaptor of the cable (Fig. E-1) to the cigarette lighter socket of the vehicle.
  • Connect the cylindrical jack of the cable (Fig. E-2) to the Power Up charging port (Fig. A-15, B-15).
  • Check the charging time on the Power Up display and leave for the full time necessary.
  • Disconnect the power supply unit when charging is complete.

WARNING:

  • In many vehicles, the cigarette lighter jack socket is always energised (even when the car is not running): to avoid a dead vehicle battery, you are advised to disconnect the charging cable when the vehicle is not running.

CHARGING VIA PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR PANELS (ACCESSORY ON REQUEST)

You can charge Power Up via solar panel connection with the following characteristics:

  • Output voltage: 12V – 30V max no load.
  • Output power: 100W max (Power Up 650); 2 x 100W max (Power Up 1300).
  • Cylindrical jack connector diam. 5.5mm, suitable for input (Fig. A-15, B-15).
  1. Position the photovoltaic panels to the sun.
  2. Connect the panels (or panel) to the Power Up (Fig. A-15, B-15) input without exposing it to the sun.
  3. Check the charging time and power on the display (Fig. A-1, B-1) and, if necessary, improve orientation of the panels towards the sun.
  4. Disconnect the panels when charging is complete.

WARNING:

  • Power Up is equipped with its own MPPT controller, so there is no need to position a controller between the panels and the equipment.

DISPOSING OF THE BATTERY

  • When the starter battery is completely run down it should be sent to a re-cycling facility.
  • In some countries this is mandatory. Contact the local special refuse authority for information on recycling.

WARNING:

  • Do not burn the battery to dispose of it. This could cause an explosion. Before disposing of the battery, apply insulating tape to the bare terminals to prevent shorting.
  • Do not expose the battery to intense heat or fire as this could cause an explosion.
