Bumper build procedures
1 Inspection
| This winch mount
bolts to the truck in 6 spots. 4 on each inner bumper bracket, and 2 on each
outer bumper bracket. The mounting holes are designed as slots to allow for
some side-to-side adjustment to allow for easy fitment.
2 Stitch Cuts
| The 2 slots on
the winch plate that mount to the truck are not bent due to the distance of
the bend line to the slot. This area has a stitch cut as shown on the bottom
of the picture to the left. It is recommended to score the back side of the
tabs so that you can bend it 90 degrees up. This is the same direction and
angle as the other bends on the winch plate. Once complete, tac weld the tabs
and test fit. Once the fit is finalized, the tabs can be final welded.
| The wings also
have a flange with a stitch cut due to the location of the bends. This flange
can just be bent 90 degrees down. This is the same direction and angle as the
front flange. Once complete, final weld the bend line and finish to desired
appearance.
---|---
| The vertical mounts both have 2x stitch cuts. It is recommended that the
cuts are scored and test fit on the truck prior to final welding. The lower
part bolts on to the front side hole on the winch plate. The upper part bolts
on to the CUCV brush guard.
3 Welding Prep
Now it is time to prepare all surfaces to weld. Remove mill scale to allow for
proper weld penetration. If TIG welding, wipe all weld surfaces with acetone.
Make sure to test fit the mount after tac welding the gussets on. The lower
mounts should be tac welded during the test fit.
4 Weld
Normal weld procedures apply. Take special care to ensure not to apply too
much heat. The area around the 2x upper slots for the winch plate should be
fully welded. One last test fit should be performed after fully welding the
mount and allowing it to cool off.
5 Finish
Now it is time to apply your finish of choice to protect from rust.
