AirCycler® g3
Wi-fi whole house ventilation controller with humidity and temperature sensing
capabilities
INTRODUCTION
In the past, homes depended on natural leaks for ventilation. Today, energy efficient homes are built to reduce natural ventilation and leaks. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor air pollutants to harmful levels. Indoor air quality is typically 5 to 10 times more polluted than outside air. Controlled ventilation provides adequate air flow to the home without compromising its efficiency.
The AirCycler® g3 controller integrates with a home’s existing ducted HVAC
system to bring a controlled amount of fresh air into the home. The g3
supports balanced, hybrid or supply ventilation methods and can wirelessly
control multiple bath fans or supply fan.
Features include humidity and temperature monitoring of outdoor air,
intregration with indoor air quality monitors and advanced system control via
the AirCycler® app.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Read and follow manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Follow all local electrical codes during installation. All wiring must conform to local and national electrical codes. Improper wiring or installation may result in personal injury or product and property damage.
AIRCYCLER® G3 INSTALLATION
Remove unit from box and pull top and bottom latches to remove controller
front. For proper operation, AirCycler® g3 requires 24VAC (R and C terminals)
to be connected.
The wires (R, C, & W ) from the air handler to the thermostat can run parallel with the wiring from the AirCycler® g3 to the air handler. The fan wire (G) must be interrupted by the AirCycler® g3. Some thermostats do not require a common (C) connection. The AirCycler® g3 requires this for power, which must be wired to the furnace.
It is recommended to install the AirCycler® g3 controller on or near the air
handler unit.
Use supplied screws to mount controller back panel at desired location.
Warning: Before installing the AirCycler®, turn off all power to the furnace.
There may be more than one power disconnect. Electrical shock can cause injury
or death.
SELECTING YOUR COMPONENT EQUIPMENT
AIR HANDLER
The 2012 IECC requires the central blower used with the AirCycler g3 to use an
electronically commutated motor.
EXHAUST FAN
The AirCycler g3 can be configured to control an exhaust fan both for manual
control and as supplemental ventilation as needed. For this configuration, an
AirCycler VentConnect switch must be installed to operate the exhaust fan. The
AirCycler g3 and VentConnect switches communicate wirelessly to integrate the
exhaust fan into the home’s overall ventilation strategy. If used in this
configuration, the exhaust fan must be capable of a flow rate equal to or
greater than the continuous whole building mechanical ventilation rate.
Integrated exhaust fans should have a max sound rating of 3.0 sones. This recommendation is a requirement if the home is certified as an ENERGY STAR Home, CA Title 24 compliant or required to comply with ASHRAE 62.2.
The 2012 IECC code requires the exhaust fan to have an efficacy of 1.4 cfm/W
if less than 90 cfm or 2.8 cfm/W if equal to or greater than 90 cfm.
AirCycler g3 can control up to four (4) exhaust fans (one fan per VentConnect™
switch).
DAMPER LOCATION
The fresh air damper can be located anywhere in the inlet duct. Minimize the
length of the inlet duct to improve air flow and improve system efficiency. It
is recommended that
the damper be as close to the return air plenum and the AirCycler® g3
controller as possible, and the inlet duct connect to the return plenum
upstream of the system filter, and down- stream of any duct mounted sensors.
DAMPER INSTALLATION
The damper may be installed vertically or horizontally. If mounted
horizontally, install with the motor at the 12 o’clock position. Air may flow
through in either direction, although it is recommended to install with the
crimped end as the outlet. Use care to avoid distorting the damper housing and
provide adequate support.
CHOOSE A FRESH AIR LOCATION
ASHRAE recommends that the fresh air intake be located at least 10 ft. from
any source of pollutants, such as auto exhaust, dryer exhaust, exhaust from
any fuel-burning appliances, etc. Avoid installation near odor sources such as
garbage bins or barbecue grills. A minimum of 3 ft. above ground is
recommended to avoiding ingress of leaf litter, grass clippings, etc. Do not
use a crawl space, basement, or attic as a source of intake air. Always be
sure to comply with local building codes and requirements regarding fresh air
inlets.
FLOWPROBE INSTALLATION
The FlowProbe is an optional in-duct air flow probe with temperature and
humidity sensing and airflow measuring and detection. The FlowProbe can be
plugged directly into the AirCycler g3 or FreshConnect.
Smooth airflow is required for accurate airflow measurement. To avoid air turbulence in the duct, place the FlowProbe in a straight run of the fresh air intake duct, at a down stream distance about 6 times the diameter of the duct. See example below:
FLOWPROBE PLACEMENT QUICK GUIDE
Drill a 1/2” hole in the fresh air intake duct for installing the probe. Pre-
drill and use supplied screws to secure FlowProbe to duct.
Plug probe into port on AirCycler g3.

SYSTEM WIRING
Follow wiring as instructed for proper system functionality. Please determine damper model number and follow designated wiring instructions.
UPGRADING & REPLACING AIRCYCLER® FRV, G1, G2
The AirCycler® g3 is a direct, pin-compatible replacement for older model
AirCycler® controllers (AirCycler® FRV, AirCycler® g1, AirCycler® g2). To
upgrade or replace an older model we recommend first recording the settings on
the older model before removing. Next, simply pull the front cover off the
existing base and leave the base secured to the wall. Place the new AirCycler®
g3 on the existing base. The new g3 is pin-compatible with the existing base
and requires no re-wiring for installation.
The g3 will seamlessly carry-on providing whole house ventilation. Users can leave the system to run out of the box with simple default settings or review the AirCycler® g3 User Guide to learn new functionality and features.
PROGRAMMING THE AIRCYCLER® G3
HOME SCREEN
Once wiring is complete place the front cover of the controller on the base and push top and bottom latches in to secure. The AirCycler® g3 controller will power up and display the home screen. Select Setup
