connect to properly grounded sockets only.
SHORT CABLE INSTRUCTIONS
A short power-supply cable is provided to reduce the hazards of entanglement or tripping over a longer cable. Longer detachable power-supply cables or extension leads are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a longer detachable powersupply extension lead is used:
- The marked electrical rating of the extension lead should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
- If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cable should be a grounding-type 3-wire cable; and
- The longer cable should be arranged so that it will not drape over the worktop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
POWER CABLE SAFETY TIPS

- To insert the plug, grasp it firmly and guide it into the socket.
- To disconnect the appliance, grasp the plug and remove it from the socket.
- Never use the product if the power cable shows signs of abrasion or excessive wear. Contact Chefman® Customer Support for additional guidance and support.
- Never wrap the cable tightly around the appliance, as this could place undue stress on the cable where it enters the appliance and cause it to fray and break.
DO NOT OPERATE THE APPLIANCE IF THE POWER CABLE SHOWS ANY DAMAGE OR IF THE APPLIANCE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY OR STOPS WORKING ENTIRELY.
IMPORTANT : During the first few minutes of initial use, you may notice smoke and/or a slight odour. This is normal and should quickly disappear. It will not recur after the appliance has been used a few more times.

- Gently wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any packaging residue. Dry completely. CAUTION : Never immerse the toaster, cable, or plug in water or any other liquid; do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the finish.
- Unwrap the power cable from the compartment under the base. Place the unit on a flat, heat-resistant surface positioned at least 5 cm away from the wall or any other objects.
- Ensure that the crumb tray is inserted in its position at the bottom back of the toaster.
HOW TO USE THE DIGITAL TOASTER
With your digital toaster, you can choose from 3 functions (BREAD, BAGEL, and DEFROST) and 6 custom shade settings to get your perfect piece of toast every time.
-
Check to ensure the crumb tray is inserted in the bottom back of the toaster.
-
Unwrap the power cable and plug the toaster in.
-
Place your desired food into the toasting slots.
NOTE : Use only bread products and products designed for toasters, such as toaster pastries. -
Use the default setting (BREAD/Shade 3) or set the desired setting by first pressing the toast function button (BREAD or BAGEL) corresponding to your food (see p. 16 for more information on those functions). The button will turn blue when pressed. If toasting frozen breads or other frozen toaster foods, press the DEFROST button as well and it will turn blue. This will automatically increase the toasting time to incorporate defrosting and toasting into one cycle.
-
Use the default shade (Shade 3) or set your desired shade by pressing one of the shade settings buttons. The button you choose will illuminate and the shade number will appear on the display.
NOTE : The shades depicted on the unit are based on regular-thickness white sandwich bread. Whole-grain bread and extra-thick or -thin slices will brown at different rates and may take some experimentation. -
Push the lever all the way down to start toasting. The timer will begin counting down according to the selected toast function and shade.
-
When toasting is complete, the lever will pop up, the unit will beep, and all buttons and the word READY will appear on the display.
CAUTION : Beware of hot surfaces when removing food from the toaster. -
Lift the lever up above the ready position to raise the food higher for easier retrieval. Carefully remove the food from the toaster and serve.
CAUTION : Never use metal utensils to remove food from the toaster. -
Alternatively, if you would like your toast slightly darker, press the +10 SECONDS button and a time of 10 seconds will appear on the display. Push the lever down and the timer will count down until toasting is complete.
-
To stop or check on your food at any time during toasting, press the CANCEL button. The lever and food will pop up and your chosen setting will appear on the display. To continue toasting, push the lever back down.
NOTE : When toasting is resumed, the timer will restart from the beginning. -
To toast additional foods, repeat steps 3–9. The toaster will continue to use your last setting; if desired, change to different setting. When finished toasting, unplug the unit to turn it off and let it cool completely before storing. NOTE : If not unplugged, the unit will automatically go into sleep mode after 20 minutes of inactivity (all buttons except CANCEL will disappear from the display). Press the CANCEL button to wake the unit up.
SETTINGS AND SPECIAL FEATURES
The toaster has 5 buttons available as well as a special safety feature that automatically kicks in if food gets stuck in the toaster.
- BREAD: Use for most types of sliced bread or food that needs both sides toasted. This setting is designed to toast both sides of bread, so all heating elements in the toasting slots heat up.
- BAGEL: Use for bagels, English muffins, or rolls. Insert food into the toaster with the cut side facing out. This way, the toaster applies more heat to the cut side, creating a golden-brown, crunchy cut side and soft, chewy outside.
- DEFROST: Use for frozen foods like frozen bread, waffles, pancakes, or toaster pastries. This setting defrosts and toasts simultaneously by increasing the toasting time for each shade.
- +10 SECONDS: Press to add 10 seconds to toasting time. This function ensures that you get the exact toast shade you like, even if it falls between two of the preset shade settings.
- CANCEL: Use to stop toasting at any time. When the button is pressed, food will automatically pop up. When toasting is resumed, the timer will restart from its initial time.
- Anti-Jam Safety Feature: The toaster is equipped with an anti-jam feature. If food gets stuck in the toaster, the unit will automatically power off. Unplug the unit, remove the food, and plug the unit back in to continue toasting.
TOASTING TIPS
- Do not put buttered bread or pastries with frosting into the toaster, as this can create a fire hazard.
- Never force food into the slots. Food should lower smoothly when the lever is pressed down or it could get stuck.
- Do not overlap foods within the toasting slots. Each slot is designed to hold 1 piece of standard bread or a single toaster product. Overlapping can cause foods to burn or toast unevenly.
- Load bagels with cut sides facing out when using BAGEL mode. This way, the cut sides get more heat, ensuring bagels are toasted to crisp-chewy perfection.
- If toasting a single slice, choose one shade lighter than desired. The toaster is designed to heat the entire toasting chamber for two slices, so choosing a lighter shade will help prevent overbrowning.
- If using fresh or very thick bread, try choosing a darker shade. Moisture in bread slows down toasting, so a longer toast time is required to achieve the same shade. For drier or thinner bread, choose a lighter shade.
- Make quick and easy croutons by toasting your desired bread on a higher setting, then crumbling it over salad or soup.
- Choose thicker slices of gluten-free bread to toast. Store-bought gluten-free bread tends to be thin and crumble easily, making it difficult to evenly toast and keep in one piece. When shopping for gluten-free bread to toast, choose thicker slices with sturdier crusts.
- When toasting raisin or other fruit breads, remove loose fruit from the surface of the bread before toasting. This will prevent fruit pieces from sticking to the insides of the toasting slots.
TROUBLESHOOTING/FAQS
Why won’t the toaster turn on?
Make sure the toaster is plugged in. If it is, make sure that the power cable is not visibly damaged in any way and that the power socket being used is working. If the power cable is damaged, do not use the toaster. Contact Chefman® Customer Support for assistance.
Why did the toaster turn off when I started to toast?
The toaster’s Anti-Jam Safety Feature causes the unit to power off if food gets jammed. Check to ensure that food is not stuck in the toaster. If food is stuck, unplug the unit, remove the food, and plug the unit back in to resume toasting. If food is not stuck, contact Chefman® Customer Support for assistance.
My food is not burned, but a burning smell is coming from the toaster.
This can be caused by burning crumbs that have collected in the crumb tray. Let the toaster cool completely, then turn it upside down and gently shake over a trash bin to remove any excess crumbs. Refer to Cleaning and Maintenance on p. 20 on how to remove and clean the crumb tray to prevent a buildup of crumbs.
My bread has fallen apart and crumbled inside the toaster. How do I remove it?
Never insert metal utensils or forks into the toaster. Unplug the toaster and turn it upside down over the counter or sink. If the entire piece does not come out, raise and lower the lever a few times.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Your toaster requires very little maintenance besides the regular removal of crumbs, making it super easy to clean.
-
Unplug the toaster and cool completely.
-
Gently wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth or kitchen roll, if necessary.
CAUTION : Never immerse the toaster, cable, or plug in water or any other liquid; do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the finish. -
Remove and clean the crumb tray periodically to avoid the buildup of crumbs. Pull the crumb tray out from its position at the bottom back of the toaster. Wash with a sponge and warm, soapy water and dry completely. The crumb tray is NOT dishwasher safe. Be sure to push the crumb tray all the way back inside the bottom of the toaster before the next use.
-
Wrap the cable through its compartment underneath the toaster before storing.
