Descriptions
- 5-pin docking port connector for printer (4)
- Power indicator
- DC power supply input jack
Introduction
The ZQ500 4-Bay Power Station allows a total of four (4) ZQ510 or ZQ520
printers to be docked and charged. The Power Station provides battery charging
power while still maintaining all of the printer’s functionality.
The Power Station has one input connection:
- A DC power supply input connects to the supplied AC/DC power adapter.
The following instructions detail the installation and use of the 4-Bay Power
Station. Following these instructions closely will ensure safe and reliable
performance of the printer when docked on the Power Station.
The user should always refer to the ZQ500 Series Users Guide (p/n
P1064404-001) for complete information on using the printer.
The ZQ500 4-Bay Power Station allows you to dock total of four (4) ZQ500
Series printers.
The installation of the Power Station includes a supplied AC/DC power adapter
(p/n P1026943-1) , which provides power to run the printers and charge their
batteries.
Note • Hardware used to secure the Power Station to the desktop and wall
is not supplied in the installation kits.
Note • It is important to leave a free zone around the printer to allow
the loading of media.
Required for Installation
- An electric drill with a 1/4” (6 mm) drill bit
- Common hand tools
- Wood screws
Option 1
When attaching the 4-Bay Power Station on the desktop or shelf, use the four
(4) through holes circled below:
Option 2
When attaching the Power Station to a wall:
- Locate wall studs in the mounting area.
- Drill three (3) holes using the through holes circled below (View 1).
- Drill three (3) additional holes using the guides on the rear base of the unit circled below (View 2).
- Use hardware listed above to secure to the wall.
Power Adapter Orientation
The power adapter can attach to the Power Station in two different ways.
Option 1
- Insert the Power Adapter into the well at the top of the Power Station.
- Connect the DC Input where indicated below.
- Run the AC cable through the opening on the opposite end of the well.
Option 2
- Lay the Power Adapter in the well at the bottom of the Power Station where shown below.
- Attach two (2) velcro straps to the plastic posts to secure the Power Adapter to the base.
- Connect the DC Input where indicated below.
- Run the AC cable beneath the cable clip (where shown) to secure.
Note • The Power Adapter can also be positioned in the opposite well at the bottom of the Power Station.
Using the Printer on the Power Station
Prepare the printer for docking onto the Power Station by doing the following:
- Remove the battery from the printer.
- Use a coin or small screwdriver to remove the plastic Docking Contacts Cover on the bottom of the printer.
- Re-install the battery.
- If necessary, clean any residue from the docking contacts using a Zebra cleaning pen or a cotton swab with 70% Isopropyl alcohol.
- Angle the front of the printer toward the two (2) guide prongs on the front of the Power Station as shown in Step 1 below. Gently slide the printer onto the Power Station.
- Press the printer down and onto the Power Station until the latches lock it firmly in place (Step 2).
- Verify that the charge LED indicator on the front of the printer and power indicator LED (Figure 1 #2) on the Power Station’s panel are lit.
- Turn the printer on and print a configuration label to verify that the printer is functioning properly. Refer to the ZQ500 Series User Guide for instructions on printing a configuration label.
Note • A printer using an extended battery or exoskeleton can still be
docked on the Power Station.
However, a printer housed in a soft case cannot.
All ZQ500 Series printers will charge when docked on the Power Station. See
the ZQ500 Series User Guide for instructions.
Printer Removal
Remove the printer from the Power Station by following the steps below:
- Lift up on the back of the printer.
- Pivot the printer up and out of the cradle.
Printer Access
The media compartment and operator controls can be reached while the printer
is placed on the Power Station.
If you need to take out the printer, follow the removal procedure detailed
above in the Printer Installation and Removal section.
The DC input barrel jack connection on the printer can NOT be used while the
printer is in the Power Station.
Cradle Indicators
The Power Station has LED indicators on the front panel. The power LED
(Figures 1 #2 ) is green when power is supplied to the cradle. Charging status
will be displayed on the charge LED on the front of the printer.
A fault condition could be caused by the battery’s internal temperature
exceeding its specified limits (too hot or too cold), or could be caused by an
internal short in the battery. Allow the battery to return to specified
charging temperature range and try to recharge. If the fault condition
persists, discontinue use of the battery.
AC Adapter
- AC Input: 100V – 240V
- DC Output: 12V
Note • If the charge LED on the printer is not illuminated, the printer is not seated properly in the Power Station. Eject and re-dock the printer and observe if the charging LED is illuminated.
