Operating instructions
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to use the product and any special considerations during use.
First use
Before the first use, there are a few things to keep in mind and actions to be
taken before you can use the product.
- Turn the device over and remove the battery compartment cover, then insert the two supplied AAA batteries correctly and close the battery compartment again.
- Press and hold the “ON” button to turn on the device. There will be a short beep, and the laser distance meter will be activated.
- To turn off the device, press and hold the “Clear / Off” button for a few seconds.
- Upon activation, the device always starts in standard length measurement mode, using the back of the device as the reference level. For more information, see section 3.2 Reference level.
- You can switch to other measurement modes by pressing the appropriate button. For instructions on using specific measurement modes, refer to the manual.
- The duration of the measurement depends on various factors such as distance, lighting conditions, and the reflective properties of the target surface.
- If no button is pressed for approximately 45 seconds, the device will automatically turn off to save battery power.
Reference level
For each measurement, you can choose between two reference levels, the back of
the device and the front of the device. If the reference level is set to the
back, the length of the device is automatically included in the calculation.
To change the reference level, press the “Reference Level” button located on
the lower left of the device. The currently selected reference level is always
visible on the display and is indicated by an arrow.
Standard length measurement
To perform a standard length measurement, press the red “ON” button once to
activate the laser. Once the laser is activated, you can take a measurement by
pressing the red “ON” button briefly again. The measured value will be
displayed on the screen in the set unit of length.
For taking multiple consecutive measurements, use the same button. The most
recent result will be displayed prominently, and earlier results will shift up
by one line (up to a maximum of four lines). To return to standard length
measurement from other modes, press the “Clear / Off” button several times
until only one result line is visible. You can add or subtract measured values
using the “+” and “-” buttons. To add two measurements, measure the first
distance as described earlier. Then press the “+” button and measure the next
distance. The two measurements will appear on the screen, with the result
shown below the line. To subtract measurements, use the “-” button instead of
the “+” button. After fifteen seconds of inactivity, the laser will
automatically enter standby mode. Use the “ON” button to reactivate the laser.
Area measurement
For an area measurement, press the “Area Measurement” button. The indicator
for area measurement will appear on the screen. Measure the length and width
in the same way as the standard length measurement. The current side to be
measured is indicated by a flashing line. After taking the second measurement,
the device automatically calculates the area. The result, including the
individual sides, is displayed on the screen.
Volume measurement
To take a volume measurement, press the “Area Measurement” button until the
indicator for volume measurement appears on the screen. Measure the length,
width, and height in the same way as the standard length measurement. The
current side to be measured is indicated by a flashing line. After the third
measurement, the device automatically calculates the volume. The result,
including the individual sides, is displayed on the screen. If the total value
exceeds 99999 cubic meters, “ERROR” will be displayed on the screen. For
spaces larger than 99999 cubic meters, divide the measurements and calculate
them separately.
Continuous measurement
In continuous measurement mode, the device can be moved, and the value is
updated every 0.5 seconds. To start a continuous measurement, press and hold
the “ON” button until the “MIN-MAX” indicator appears on the screen. To stop
the continuous measurement, press the “ON” button again. In continuous
measurement mode, the current distance is displayed on the bottom result line.
“MIN” and “MAX” respectively indicate the shortest and longest measured
distances relative to the target. The values are always overwritten when the
measurement exceeds the previous minimum or maximum. After five minutes, the
continuous measurement automatically ends, and the last measured value remains
displayed on the bottom result line.
Indirect distance measurement (Relative)
Indirect distance measurement can be used to measure distances where the laser
does not have a direct line to the target surface or if the target surface is
not suitable for measurement. These measurements use the Pythagorean theorem.
Inaccurate individual measurements will affect the final result.
Indirect height measurement
Press the “Indirect Distance Measurement” button until the correct indicator
is visible on the screen. The current side to be measured is indicated by a
flashing line. Measure the sides as indicated on the screen. The result,
including the individual sides, is displayed on the screen.
When measuring the two values, position the device at the same height as the
lowest measurement point.
Double indirect height measurement
Press the “Indirect Distance Measurement” button until the correct indicator
is visible on the screen. The current side to be measured is indicated by a
flashing line. Measure the sides as indicated on the screen. The result,
including the individual sides, is displayed on the screen.
Keep the reference level of the measurement the same for all individual
measurements within a measurement series.
Indirect length measurement
Press the “Indirect Distance Measurement” button until the correct indicator
is visible on the screen. The current side to be measured is indicated by a
flashing line. Measure the sides as indicated on the screen. The result,
including the individual sides, is displayed on the screen.
Ensure that the device is at the same height as the desired measurement point.
Angle measurement
Press the “Indirect Distance Measurement” button until the correct indicator
is visible on the screen. The current side to be measured is indicated by a
flashing line. Measure the sides as indicated on the screen. The result,
including the individual sides, is displayed on the screen.
Settings
Below is a brief overview of the various settings. It is possible to view stored measurements, change the measurement units, and adjust the display backlight.
Saved measurements
The device automatically stores the last twenty measurements, regardless of
which mode was used at the time of the measurement. Press the “Saved
Measurements” button to access the last measured values. Use the “+” and “-”
buttons to navigate the results. To exit the list of stored measurements, use
the “Clear / Off” button. The values are displayed in reverse order, with the
most recent measurements shown first.
Change units
The displayed measurement units can be changed, and you can choose between
meters, feet, or inches. To change the measurement units, press the “Units”
button until the desired unit appears on the screen.
Display back light
To turn off the display backlight, press and hold the “Reference Level” button
for one second. To turn the display backlight back on, press the same button
again for one second.
