ALEXCO Digital Saw Stop

Specifications

  • Product: Digital Saw Stop
  • Manufacturer: ALEXCO
  • Power Source: Standard AA batteries
  • Box Contents: Digital module, aluminum extrusion, calibration tool

Product Usage Instructions

  • Clean the surface with thinners or acetone before applying.
  • Install magnetic tape to the back of the full-length extrusion using peel & stick adhesive. Make sure the tape is aligned directly under the sensor on the saw stop head.
  • Install a stainless-steel stick-on cover over the magnetic tape for protection.
  • Carefully guide the module onto the extrusion.
  • Check assembly runs freely along the length.
  • Fix the end plates with the bolts and tighten them.
  • Use the two tightening handles to fix the position of the module on the extrusion.

The module uses standard AA batteries. To replace batteries:

FAQ

  • Q: Do I need to recalibrate the Digital Saw Stop after replacing the batteries?
  • A: No, you should not need to recalibrate the Digital Saw Stop after replacing batteries if you replace ONE battery at a time to retain calibration settings.

These instructions set out the process to set up and calibrate your Digital Saw Stop for your workshop.

Box Contents

Care must be taken when handing the module as the edges are sharp

  • Digital Saw Stop module
  • Calibration tool for setting the measure
  • Magnetic Tape
  • Stainless steel protection cover for magnetic tape
  • Selected length of aluminum extrusion
  • Two end plates
  • Four bolts

Batteries not included

Follow these steps to set up your Digital Saw Stop in your workshop. The digital module has been pre-calibrated in our workshop however should you need to check the setup or re-set it for any reason, we have provided the calibration guide for your reference.

Handle the module carefully, as the edges are sharp

  1. Fix the supplied length of aluminum extrusion in place in your workshop.
  2. Set up the module.

There are four sequential steps to ensure your Digital Saw Stop is accurately set up.
Once these steps are complete, you shouldn’t need to reset your Digital Saw Stop unless you move the setup or the module loses power.

If you need to replace the batteries, be sure to replace one battery at a time to retain all calibration settings.

Set-Up

Initial Set up

Applying The Magnetic Tape

  1. Clean the surface with thinners or acetone before applying

  2. Install magnetic tape to the back of the full-length extrusion (peel & stick adhesive)
NOTE: ensure the tape is correctly aligned directly under the sensor on the saw stop head. (see image below)

  3. Install stainless-steel stick-on cover over magnetic tape for protection

  4. Carefully guide the module onto the extrusion

  5. Check assembly runs freely along the length

  6. Fix the end plates with the bolts and tighten

  7. Use the two tightening handles to fix the position of the module on the extrusion

Setting the direction of the saw stop
Check indicated value on the screen increases when moving away from the saw head. If the value decreases you need to change direction on the screen: To change the value:

  1. Press & hold F for one second
    • A. Press > to select P02
    • B. Press F, then using the arrow up button select either:
    • I. 0 – forward mode
    • II. 1 – reverse mode
  2. Press C to confirm your selection
  3. Press C to return to the main screen

Calibration

Setting Cut Length

  1. Move the saw stop to a length you can measure accurately, or against the smallest value you can move the saw to if it does not go all the way to the saw face.
This stop position will become the reference point for the saw.

  2. Cut a length of scrap

  3. Measure Cut length as accurately as possible,
    A. alternatively adjust the stop until the cut size of the scrap exactly matches the accurately measured calibration tool which is 1 metre in length

  4. Repeat several times if necessary to get the cut size exactly the same as the provided calibration tool

Setting the start point value in the display

  1. Press and hold F for one second until P01 is displayed
  2. Short Press F until ‘0000.00’ is displayed
    • A. Up arrow in increasing the digits
    • B. > arrow to move to the next digit
  3. Once the correct value is displayed press F again
  4. The display should now show the correct value

Final Step

Multi-segment compensation

This step is only required if high accuracy is essential. The option can compensate for any stretch that may have occurred by applying the adhesive magnetic strip to the extrusion and only needs to be done once at the initial setup.

Preperation
To set up the process; cut several scrap sticks, the same length as the measured meter length of the calibration tool provided.

These sticks can then be stacked end on end to get accurate measurements at 1000mm intervals. (see Image below)
Clamp the first 1000mm length against the aluminum extrusion and the saw face so it cannot move. For example, if the sticks are 1000.5mm the corresponding points will be :

  • = 1000.5mm
  • = 2001.0
  • = 3001.5
  • = 4002.0
  • = 5002.5

Multi-segment compensation – Process

  1. Press F
  2. Press > until P27 is displayed
  3. Press F
  4. Pd “0” will blink use up arrow to Pd “7”
  5. Press F
  6. Use up arrow to select mode 1 arbitrary input mode
  7. Press F again and 00000 will blink and enter the correct length (the example is 1000.5) at the saw stops current position
  8. Press F again to save this number
  9. Move the saw to the next position with 2 sticks in position end-on-end (the example is 2001.0) and enter the correct position at that point.
  10. Repeat along the full length of the saw stop, up to 5 segments.
  11. Once complete return to the start point (for example it is 1000.5) and press the up arrow and > to reset 7 and load offsets 00 will flash

Battery replacement
The module uses standard AA batteries and unscrews front plate dome head screws.

Important note: Replace ONE battery at a time to ensure all calibration settings are retained www.alexco.co.nz
