INTRODUCTION
- Setting up your Facebook Business account with the correct access is important for your sustained success. Facebook accounts link to many various assets including Facebook Pages, Ad accounts, Groups, Events, and more.
- If your access is set up incorrectly, it can cause loss of access, limitations in performance, and the worst of cases, cause your account to be blocked or deleted by Facebook.
- Following these simple steps will help you navigate the Facebook Business Page and Business Manager account setup process and limit any risks.
- Although you can set up a Business Manager account and a Business Page in a different order, this step-by-step process seems to be the fast track. If you already have a Facebook Business Page setup, skip to step 2.
Create a Facebook Business Page
- To create a Facebook Business Page, log in to your personal Facebook account and click on Pages in the left side menu (you may have to select the dropdown for See More to see the Pages option).
- Then, on the next screen, you will select +Create new Page. This will open the draft page for your new Business Page.
- Enter the Business Page name, select up to 3 categories, and enter a description (the description can be edited later). Then, click the Create Page button at the bottom of the screen.
- Now, you can add images including your profile photo and cover photo. If you add photos, remember to click the Save button before navigating away from this screen. You can also go to your Business Page and add more details
Business Settings
- Once you are done adding photos and details, you should see your Business Page. In your browser’s URL address bar, navigate to business.facebook.com. This takes you to the Meta Business Suite.
- Select All Tools in the left side menu, then select Page Settings.
- This will open a new tab in your browser.
- Note: This link is not the same as the Page settings option when viewing your Business Page on facebook.com. You must navigate to business.facebook.com to reach this page.
Create a Business Manager Account
- You should see a dark grey header with “FB” and a hamburger menu at the top left of the page. Click on the hamburger menu and select Business Settings.
- You should then be directed to a menu of businesses you have already created or an empty menu with a button at the top right that says +Create business. Click the button.
- A popup will appear with three fields. In the first field, enter your Business Page name. Then, enter your first and last name in the second field if not already populated.
- Then, enter your business email address.
- This can be your business email address.
- Click the Submit button when finished.
- Note: If your page already has a Business Manager account, or if you have set up a previous
- Page using your business email address, you will receive a notification in the popup that warns you that a Business Manager account might already exist.
- You will receive another popup that states your business account was created. You can click Done and you will be directed to the Business Manager account for your Business Page.
- You should receive an email to the email address you used in the previous step. Go to your email and confirm your email address by clicking the Confirm Now button in the email.
- This will open a tab in your browser directing you to your Business settings for your Business Page.
- Note: Be sure to check your Junk/Spam folder for the email.
Connect Your Business Page
- On this same Business settings page, select Pages under the Accounts drop-down in the left side menu. You should see an option to add pages to your Business Manager account.
- Click the Add button and select Add a Page. In the popup, type in your Business Page name and select your Page. Then click the Add Page button.
- You will receive another popup confirmation. If you are an admin for your Business Page, you will be automatically approved. If you are not an admin, an admin will need to approve your request. You can now click the Close button.
- Note: It is recommended to have an admin of the Business Page initiate the process of creating a Business Manager account.
STEP 5 (OPTIONAL) Setup Your Facebook Ad Account
- Navigate to Ad accounts in the left side menu under the Accounts dropdown. Similar to adding a page, you should see an option to add an Ad account. Select Create a new ad account.
- Type in an Ad account name, select your time zone and currency, and then click the Next button.
- Note: It is recommended to use the Business Page/Business Manager account name for the Ad account name.
- In the popup, select My Business (verifying the correct business name next to this option) then click the Create button. You can then select people and permissions.
- You will want at least one individual with permission to use the Ad account.
- Once the people and permissions are selected, click the Assign button. You can then add payment info or choose to close the popup and add payment info later.
- Note: This Ad account belongs to the Business Manager account but will be accessed with separate permissions by the individuals you give access to.
- This allows you to give Ad account access to agencies and marketing personnel so that they may run Facebook ads on behalf of your Business Page without giving them access to change the Business Page settings or Business Manager account settings.
Confirm Your Setup
- As a final step, confirm your Business Page and Business Manager account are set up properly. Navigate back to your page by selecting Pages under the Accounts dropdown in the left-side menu, then click View Page in the upper right corner of the page.
- You can also navigate to your page by opening a new tab, going to facebook.com, and selecting Pages outlined in Step 1 (select your new Business Page instead of creating a new page).
- Select Settings in the left side menu, then select Page Roles. You should see your Business Manager account listed as a Page Owner.
- This means you have completed your Business Page and Business Manager account setup.
- If you have any questions or would like assistance, contact your Customer Success Manager. They can walk you through the steps and help you ensure your Facebook channel is set up for success.
