General

You have chosen a CrosbyIP pipe hook.

CrosbyIP pipe hooks are the most reliable pipe hooks available. But using reliable tools does not automatically mean that practices are reliable. The people who work with pipe hooks play an equally important role in reliable operation. Ensure that everyone who works with CrosbyIP pipe hooks has been instructed in the proper application of the hooks.
To keep CrosbyIP pipe hooks in optimum condition, regular maintenance is important. Preventive maintenance and repair shall be carried by a repairer authorized by CrosbyIP.
Please read and understand these instructions before using the pipe hook.

Safety precautions

  • Proper instruction for the personnel is of vital importance. This will contribute to maximum reliability in the working environment.
  • IPPH pipe hooks are used in pairs.
  • Temperature: the operating temperature is between –40 ºC (–40 ºF) and 100 ºC (212 ºF). For other temperatures contact your CrosbyIP Customer Service Centre.
  • A pipe hook is a device that must be clean when used. Dirt has an adverse effect on the operation and also on the reliability of the hook. Regular cleaning will enhance the life and reliability of the hooks.

Check when placing the hook that slings are not twisted.
It is not permitted to stay in the danger zone of the load.
No changes may be made to CrosbyIP pipe hooks. Never straighten, attempt to bend or heat treat parts.

Inspection protocols

Prior to every application of the hook it is important the operator inspects the hook for proper functioning. Attention must be paid to the following (see illustration(s) 3 for part reference):

  • Check the body (N) and shackle (S) for damage, cracks or deformation (this may indicate overloading).
  • Check whether the W.L.L. and the jaw opening stamped on the body corresponds with the load.

How to operate the clamp

IPPH pipe hooks are suitable for horizontal lifting and transport of pipes.
See illustrations 3 for part reference

DO NOT attach chains or cables on the handle!

  1. Place the hooks on the pipe (with the cable or chain already attached to the hook, check that chains are not twisted) and exercise pressure, so that the inner side of the jaw rests against the edge of the pipe (2).
  2. Tension the cables or chains with the crane hook, while the inner side of the jaw rests against the pipe.
  3. The load may now be lifted, paying careful heed to maintaining constant tension on the chains and/or cables.
  4. As soon as the load is at its destination let the crane hook descend until the hook is fully free of load, meaning that the lifting chain is no longer taut. When lowering the load be sure that the load does not snag or encounter obstacles which could release the load on the hooks prematurely.
  5. The hook may now be removed from the load.
