WARNING: Failure to correctly follow these instructions may result in electrocution causing serious injury or death.
Introduction
With the use of the EZConnect™ cable, two water heaters can be electronically connected (Figure 1). This connection rotates water heater operation order to ensure equal usage among the entire system and enables the water heaters connected to modulate operation and function as one hot water source.
IMPORTANT:
- For proper operation, do not combine different water heater models.
Exception: Application of RXP model with an RX model. If connecting RX and RXP models with an EZ Connect™ cable, the RXP model must be Primary and the RX model secondary (Figure 4).
Items Inside Product Box

TOOLS/MATERIALS REQUIRED
- Philips head screwdriver (for removal of water heater front cover)
- Smart Device (such as a smartphone)
Installation Instructions
Step 1: Connect EZConnect ™ Cable
- Power OFF the water heaters by unplugging the power cord or turning off the circuit breaker. The controller on the water heater does not control the electrical power.
- Remove the front panel of both water heaters by removing the 2 screws and releasing 2 latches that secure the panel in place.
- Locate the PC Board at lower front of unit (Figure 2).
- Using the PC Board cover as a guide, identify the “EZ Connect” connection (Figure 3).
- The two water heaters need to be installed 2-18 inches apart so that the cable will reach between the two units and to prevent temperature fluctuations (cold water sandwich effect) when the water is shut off and turned back on.
- Connect one end of the EZConnect*™ Cable to the EZ Connect Accessory Port on the PC Board of primary water heater (Figure 4).
- Connect the other end of the EZConnect™ Cable to the Accessory Port of secondary water heater (Figure 4).
- Power ON each water heater.
- Securely tighten the EZConnect Cable to the bottom of both water heaters by using the provided cable clamp and screw (Figure 5).
Step 2: Select Parameters
WARNING: Adjust only the parameter settings listed below. Do not adjust any other parameter settings unless specifically instructed to do so.
Factory default setting is both units (2) are in standby. Use the following
procedure for applications that require only one (1) unit in standby.
Two water heaters connected with the EZConnect*™ Cable must be set as primary
or secondary. One water heater must be primary, and the other must be
secondary.
Note: If connecting RX and RXP models with an EZConnect*™ cable, the RXP model must be Primary and the RX model secondary (Figure 4).
Select parameters of your tankless water heater by choosing one of the two options below:
- Option 1 (recommended): Select parameters from a smart device using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
- Option 2: Select parameters from the tankless water heater integrated controller.
OPTION 1: USING BLE
To set parameters of your tankless water heater from a smart device using BLE (recommended), follow the steps
Note: To utilize BLE, your connecting device (smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.) needs to have Bluetooth 4.0 or newer version. Contact your connecting device manufacturer if you are not sure if your connecting device has Bluetooth 4.0 or newer version.
- Download the Rinnai Central app by scanning the following QR code:
- The controller displays “SEt” and the Priority button LED light on the controller is blinking if power is connected for the first time (Figure 6).
- Open the Rinnai Central app from your smart device and log in the Rinnai Central app with a professional account.
- Push the Bluetooth button on the controller. The Bluetooth LED light turns solid.
- Tap “Connect to a Rinnai Appliance” on the Rinnai Central”™ app (Figure 7). You will hear a beeping sound when pairing between the app and water heater is established.
- Follow the steps in the Rinnai Central app to select “Primary” for one unit.
- When settings are complete, the controller display will be blank.
- Repeat steps 4 through 7 for the other unit to set as “Secondary”.
- Reconnect and turn on water supply and gas supply for both units.
- Run both units and examine if EZConnect works properly.
- After all check have been successfully completed, reinstall the front panel using the two screws and two latches to secure. It.
OPTION 2: USING INTEGRATED CONTROLLER

If the controller displays “SEt” and the Priority button LED light on the controller is blinking (Figure 6), follow” Initial Settings” of your tankless water heater installation instructions to complete initial set up. Otherwise, move to step 2.

Locate the two buttons (A and B) on the PC Board of one unit (Figure 8). This unit will be primary.

Press the A button for 1 second. 01A or 01b appears on the controller display (Figure 8).

Press the Up arrow button until 07A appears on the display (Figure 9).

Press the On/Off button until 07b appears on the display if only one unit is in standby (Figure 9).
Standby:- 07A When water flow starts, both units activate and the second unit drops off, if demand is not needed.
- 07b When water flow starts, one unit initiates and then activates the next unit, if demand is needed.

Press the Up arrow button until O8A appears on the display (Figure 9).

Press the On/Off button until 08b appears on the display (Figure 9).

Press the A button for 1 second, and the controller display will be blank.

Repeat step 1 for the secondary unit.

Reconnect and turn on water supply and gas supply for both units.

Run both units and examine if Ez Connect works properly.

After all check have been successfully completed, reinstall the front panel using the two screws and two latches to secure. It.
