1. Overview of Conduits

The SICHARGE UC150TM system consists of LVAC Distribution System with charging stations and dispensers. Ensure proper installation of conduits as shown in Figure 1.

2. AC Electrical Requirements

Install dedicated breakers rated as per specifications for each SICHARGE UC150 charge station. Also, include a local AC disconnect switch for safety.

3. Conduit Requirements

Use appropriate conduit sizes and details as specified in Figure 2 and Figure 3. Ensure separate conduit runs for different circuits until reaching the cable gland plates.

4. Cabling Requirements

Follow the specified cabling requirements for USA and Canada. Use copper cables for grounding and ensure proper wiring connections. Ethernet or fiber- optic cables can be used for communication between charging station and dispenser.

FAQ

  • Q: Can I use different voltage inputs with the SICHARGE UC150TM?
    • A: The SICHARGE UC150TM is designed for use with either 480VAC or 600VAC input voltages as specified. Using different voltages may cause damage to the system.
  • Q: Do I need to follow specific regulations when installing the SICHARGE UC150TM?
    • A: Yes, it is important to adhere to local electrical codes and regulations when installing the SICHARGE UC150TM system to ensure safety and proper operation.

SECTION 1

Introduction

The SICHARGE UC150 charging station enables high-performance charging of electric vehicles with the SICHARGE UC dispenser. Thanks to the support of the open universal charging standard CSS type 1, the station charges different vehicle models from different manufacturers both quickly and efficiently. One SICHARGE UC150 can connect up to four dispensers. Proper cable selection and routing is important to ensure safe operation of the SICHARGE UC150 charging station and dispensers. This document defines the cabling and piping of the SICHARGE system and serves as an aid to install the infrastructure required to operate the system. Important! All local regulations and requirements MUST be met: Prior to the installation of the piping and wiring, a professional review of local regulations and requirements must be performed to ensure adherence to all local laws and regulations. As a result, deviation from the requirements of this documentation may be required.

SECTION 3

AC electrical requirements

AC breaker and branch circuit

For North American installations, charge station electrical branch circuits must be sized at 125% of the load of each leg the 3-phase panel, in accordance with NEC requirements. A dedicated breaker should be installed for each SICHARGE UC150 charge station rated per the specifications below:

SIEMENS-SICHARGE-UC150-Charging-Station-fig 13

AC disconnect switch

A local AC disconnect switch that is separate from the shunt trip wiring is recommended to be installed between each charging station and the electrical panel. This is especially important if the main electrical panel or utility room is distant, out of line of sight, or has restricted access. For North American installations, refer to disconnect switch requirements per NEC Article 625, “Electric Vehicle Charging and Supply Equipment Systems

Note:

  1. All circuits (incoming AC power wiring, DC wiring to dispensers and communications wiring) should be ran in separate conduit runs until reaching the cable gland plates.
  2. Conduits to and from the power unit must end within the foundation cavity to allow ample length for cables to bend and align with the cable glands in the base of the power unit.

SECTION 5

Cabling requirements

IMPORTANT! Cabling requirements are specified for USA and Canada. Ensure that the correct cabling requirements for your location are used.

Grounding Instructions

Recommended Wiring Power and Protective Earth (PE) conductor ratings:

  • DC copper PVC class, rated to operate at 75°C.
  • Siemens recommends the use of copper cables. This unit is to be connected to a grounded, metal permanent wiring system; or an equipment-grounding conductor is to be run with circuit conductors and connected to an equipment-grounding terminal or lead on battery charger. Connections to a battery charger must comply with all local codes and ordinances.

Ethernet or Fiber-Optic

Communication for the SICHARGE UC charging station can be connected to the SICHARGE UC dispenser using an Ethernet or fiber-optic cable. These are the specifications for laying of cables:

  • Low-voltage and direct-voltage cables must be installed shielded from the Ethernet or fiber-optic cable.
  • CAUTION – Separate cable routing to low-voltage and DC cables (minimum 20 cm).
  • Lay communication cables close to grounded cabinet components.
  • Communication cables and low voltage and direct-voltage cables may only cross each other at a 90° angle
