General safety messages

WARNING: Flooding hazard. Failure to obey the following warnings could result in death or serious injury.

  • If the toilet is connected to any through-the-hull fittings, always close the seacocks when the toilet is not in use (even if the boat is unattended for a brief period). All passengers must be instructed on how to close the valves when the toilet is not in use.
  • If the toilet uses fresh water for flushing and is connected directly or indirectly to a shoreside municipal water system at any time, shoreside water connections must be disconnected if the boat is unattended (even if the boat is unattended for a brief period).
  • Before beginning any work on this product, be sure that all electrical power to the unit has been turned off and that the seacocks are in the closed or off position.

NOTICE: Overfilling the holding tank can cause serious damage to the sanitation system, such as rupturing the holding tank and releasing tank contents into the bilge. To prevent this possibility, Dometic recommends using a full tank shut-down relay. The full signal from the holding tank can be generated by an optional Dometic DTM01C tank monitor or DTM04 four-level tank monitor system.
Follow all local regulations for waste tank discharge.

Intended use

The Macerator toilet (hereinafter referred to as toilet or product) provides an electric-flush toilet that macerates waste and pumps it either to a holding tank or other effluent storage/disposal system, or overboard. Operated by a remote flush switch, the toilet allows the user to add water to the bowl (before or after flushing) and to flush the toilet by pushing a button. This toilet is designed for use in marine applications and is only suitable for the intended purpose and application by these instructions.
This manual provides information that is necessary for the proper operation of the toilet. Poor installation and/or improper operation or maintenance will result in unsatisfactory performance and possible failure. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any injury or damage to the product resulting from:

  • Incorrect assembly or connection, including excess voltage
  • Incorrect maintenance or use of spare parts other than the original spare parts provided by the manufacturer
  • Alterations to the product without express permission from the manufacturer
  • Use for purposes other than those described in this manual

Toilet tissue paper
To avoid potential clogging problems with some household toilet tissues, Dometic recommends using quick-dissolving tissue, such as Dometic rapid dissolving 1-ply or 2-ply toilet tissue.
Not every marine-grade toilet tissue paper dissolves rapidly.
To determine any toilet tissue’s ability to dissolve, immerse one square of the tissue in a jar of water and shake 5-10 times. The tissue sample should break up so that it is no longer in one piece.

Benefits
Convenient electronic flush. Add water (freshwater version only) or flush with the touch of a button.
Versatile installation. Several features enhance the installation possibilities of the 7100 and 7200 series macerator toilets:

  • Adjustable toilet base. The toilet base can be positioned so that the macerator pump housing extends in any direction from the center of the toilet.
  • Floor plan flexibility. The macerator pump allows the toilet to be located up to 40 ft (12.2 m) away or up to 4 ft (1.2 m) below the holding tank or other discharge line destination.
  • Self-priming raw water pump (raw water flush version only). The integral pump for raw flush water is self-priming with a maximum lift of 4 ft (1.2 m).

Automatic full tank shut-down (optional installation – tank level monitor and shut-down relay required. Available separately). When the shutdown relay is connected to a holding tank level indication system, the electrical power to the toilet shuts off when the holding tank is full. This safety feature prevents overfilling the holding tank, which may cause damage to the boat.

  2. Flush switch

Toilet system start-up

  1. Turn on the freshwater supply to the toilet.
  2. Press the Flush switch and hold for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Toss several sheets of toilet paper into the bowl and repeat the cycle. The bowl should be completely clear.

Normal flushing

  • Adding water to the toilet bowl
Press the Add Water switch until the desired water level is achieved. More water is usually added only when flushing solids. Do not press the Add Water switch too long or overflow may occur.

  • Flushing toilet
Press the Flush switch down and hold until the waste drains from the toilet bowl (about 10-20 seconds). To use less water for liquid-only flushes, press the Flush switch for a shorter period. The switch activates a macerator pump that siphons water and waste from the bowl, macerates, and propels the effluent to the discharge line/holding tank.

Adding water to the toilet bowl Press the Add Water switch until the desired water level is achieved.

  • Dry bowl operation
During periods of rough travel, water in the toilet bowl can splash out and into the bathroom area. To avoid this situation, use the dry bowl function. Press the Dry Bowl switch to drain the water completely from the toilet bowl. Water is not added to the bowl during or after pressing the Dry Bowl switch.

Toilet operation when
connected to full tank shut-down relay and tank monitor system When a macerator toilet system uses a full tank shut-down relay, electrical power to the toilet is shut off when the holding tank level reaches full. To restore the electrical power to the toilet for flushing, the holding tank contents must be emptied or discharged until the full tank indicator is activated.

Press the Flush switch down and hold until the waste drains from the toilet bowl (about 10-20 seconds).

  • To use less water for liquid-only flushes, press the Flush switch for a shorter period.
  • If the toilet bowl does not completely flush and fills up with seawater during the flush, partially close the inlet valve until the bowl clears and completely discharges the effluent. Then, with the inlet and discharge valves completely open, flush the toilet for a few seconds to clear the toilet and discharge system.

The switch activates a macerator pump that siphons water and waste from the bowl, macerates, and propels the effluent to the discharge line.

Maintenance and winterizing

Cleaning the toilet
NOTICE : To avoid damaging the internal seals, do not clean the toilet with abrasive cleaners, caustic chemicals, lubricants, or cleaners that contain alcohol or petroleum distillates.
To maintain the toilet’s original lustrous appearance, use Dometic Toilet Bowl Cleaner or other non-abrasive bathroom and toilet bowl cleaners. Follow the label directions.

Routine maintenance

  1. Monthly
    • Inspect the toilet, plumbing, and plumbing connections, wires, and wire connections.
    • Open and close all plumbing valves, including the seacocks.
    • Check the in-line water filters and vented loops for blockage.
  2. Yearly
Check the water valve filter for blockage or damage.

During extended periods of non-use
NOTICE: During the water evacuation process, do not operate the seawater pump very long without water. The pump impeller may become damaged.
The macerator toilet and sanitation hoses should be protected if the toilet will not be needed for an extended period (more than two weeks, especially in hot weather).

  1. Flush the toilet and add 4 oz (118 ml) of liquid biodegradable laundry detergent (should not contain bleach or environmentally harmful substances).
    • If using seawater for flushing, shut off the power to the seawater pump and add fresh water directly into the bowl during the flush cycle.
  2. Flush the toilet at least five times.
  3. Turn off the water supply to the toilet.
  4. Flush the toilet without water very briefly to evacuate all water. This procedure will minimize any remaining water in the macerator pump.
  5. Turn of the power to the toilet.
  6. After extended periods of non-use, the toilet and pump may be dry. For an easier restart of the toilet system, add 1 qt (0.9 L) of water to the bowl and let it stand for a few minutes before use.

Winterizing
NOTICE: Never use automotive-type antifreeze in freshwater systems. Use nontoxic antifreeze designated for potable water systems. Refer to your boat or vehicle owner’s manual.
At the end of each season, the macerator toilet should be winterized for storage by using potable water-safe antifreeze if the boat or vehicle is exposed to freezing temperatures.

  1. Pressurized freshwater system
Each installation is different, so the amounts of antifreeze needed may vary. User discretion is required to ensure adequate protection.

  2. Drain the potable water tank and empty the holding tank.

  3. Add potable water antifreeze to the potable water tank.

  4. Flush the potable water antifreeze and water mixture through the toilet(s) and into the entire system, including the waste holding tank, diverter valve connections, discharge pumps, etc.

  5. Turn off the power to the toilet.

  6. Sea water system
    The following materials are required:

    • One hose that fits the seawater pump, about 3 ft (1m) long
    • One container
    1. Close the intake and discharge seacocks.
    2. Turn off the power to the toilet.
    3. Disconnect and drain the intake hose and in-line filters.
    4. Connect the hose to the seawater pump intake.
    5. Place the hose connected to the pump intake into a bucket with antifreeze in it.
    6. Turn on the power to the toilet.
    7. Flush until the antifreeze is drained from the toilet.
    8. Disconnect the power to the toilet.
    9. Reconnect all intake and drain hoses.
