SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
WARNING: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the
other). This plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If
the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still
does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the
plug in any way or force it into the outlet. This could result in injury or
electrical shock.
SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of entanglement or
tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension
cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a
longer detachable power-supply extension cord is used:
- The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
- The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over a countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
POWER CORD SAFETY TIPS
- Never pull or yank on the cord or the appliance.
- To insert the plug, grasp it firmly and guide it into the outlet.
- To disconnect the appliance, grasp the plug and remove it from the outlet.
- Never use the product if the power cord shows signs of abrasion or excessive wear. Contact Chefman® Customer Support for additional guidance and support.
- Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance, as this could place undue stress on the cord where it enters the appliance and cause it to fray and break.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE FIRST USE
- Remove all packaging materials, such as plastic bags and stickers. Ensure you have all parts and accessories before discarding the packaging.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp, lint-free cloth. Wash the carafe, reusable filter, and filter holder in warm, soapy water.
- Place the coffee maker on a hard, flat surface, and plug it in.
- To remove any dust or manufacturing residues, run the coffee maker through a brewing cycle (see p. 10) with just water. Discard the carafe of water.
HOW TO BREW COFFEE
-
Fill the water tank with fresh cold water. The water level should not exceed the MAX marking on the water gauge window.
-
Place the carafe with its lid closed on the heating plate, making sure it’s fully seated in the coffee maker. CAUTION: If the carafe is not properly positioned, hot water or hot coffee can overflow.
-
Check that the filter holder is situated in the brewing chamber; if not, insert it. Then insert either the reusable coffee filter or a disposable paper filter into the filter holder. (Do not use both filters together; they can clog and cause the coffee to overflow.)
-
Add the desired amount of ground coffee using the measuring scoop provided. Brew coffee with the coffee-to-water ratio you normally use. For a rich, full-bodied cup, we suggest one level scoop for each cup listed on the gauge. Shut the lid to the brewing chamber, pressing down on it to close securely.
-
Press the ON/OFF switch into the ON (I) position. The indicator light will illuminate and the coffee maker will begin brewing.
CAUTION: Never open the brewing chamber during brewing as the hot steam, water, and coffee within can cause injury. If water/coffee is not draining from the filter basket, unplug the unit and wait
10 minutes before opening and checking the filter. -
When brewing ends, the water gauge will show the water reservoir is empty, but it will take another minute or two for all of the coffee to drip into the carafe. CAUTION: The coffee maker becomes very hot during the brew cycle. Please handle with extreme care.
-
The heating plate will continue to keep the coffee hot as long as the coffee maker is on (unless the Boil Dry feature is triggered; see below). As soon as the carafe is empty, or when you no longer want coffee kept hot, turn off the coffee maker manually by pressing the ON/OFF switch to the OFF (0) position.
NOTE: For optimal coffee taste, serve immediately after brewing.
SPECIAL FEATURES
PAUSE-AND-SERVE
If you wish to pour a cup while the brew cycle is running, you can remove the
carafe from the plate and the coffee drip will pause for up to 30 seconds.
After pouring, return the carafe to the unit, being sure it’s fully seated on
the heating plate. NOTE: While pause-and-serve is a convenient way to pour a
cup of coffee mid-cycle, the strength of the coffee poured mid-cycle may vary
from the finished brew and will affect the finished brew’s strength and
flavor.
BOIL DRY
The coffee maker comes equipped with boil-dry protection. While you should
ALWAYS turn the unit off as soon as you empty the carafe, should the unit boil
dry and reach 248˚F (120˚C), it will automatically shut off.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- Allow the coffee maker to cool completely before cleaning.
- Raise the brewing chamber lid and lift the filter holder out. Remove and discard the used coffee grounds and the paper filter, if using.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, reusable filter, scoop, and filter holder in hot, sudsy water. The carafe and filter holder are also top-rack dishwasher safe. Do not place any other parts of your coffee maker in the dishwasher.
- To clean the exterior of the unit, simply wipe with a soft, damp cloth.
- The heating plate may be wiped with a clean damp cloth as necessary. For hard-to-remove stains, use a plastic mesh pad or cloth dampened in vinegar.
- Never use harsh or abrasive cleansers on any part of your coffeemaker.
CAUTION: Never immerse the heating plate or main housing in water or any other liquid. Do not try to clean the inside of the water chamber with a cloth; this can leave a residue of lint and may clog your coffee maker.
HOW TO DECALCIFY YOUR COFFEE MAKER
Calcium buildup frequently occurs in drip coffee makers. This buildup is normal and is caused by minerals commonly found in drinking water. We recommend decalcifying your coffee maker four times a year, and more often as needed. You’ll know your coffee maker needs decalcifying when you notice an obvious slowing of the brewing time. You can either use a commercial descaler, following the package instructions, or use citric acid and water, following the directions below:
-
Dissolve 2½ tsp. citric acid in 1.25 liters of fresh water. Pour the mixture into the water tank; it should come just to the MAX line.
-
Ensure the filter holder and filter are in place, and that the filter holder is free of coffee grounds. Put the carafe in place on the heating plate.
-
Switch the coffee maker on. Let the unit brew about ¼ of the pot.
-
Switch the coffee maker off and let it sit for 15 minutes.
-
Repeat steps 3 and 4 three more times, until all of the citric acid-water mixture has passed through the coffee maker.
Discard the mixture. -
Fill the water tank with fresh water and place the carafe on the heating plate. Switch the coffee maker on and let it run a full cycle. Discard the water.
-
Repeat step 6 twice more, until the citric acid is fully flushed from the unit.
