User Guide

Introduction

Welcome to the Harrison family of 500 series modules and thank you for your purchase of the MR3eq module. All Harrison 500 series modules are compatible with the API 500 format rack systems.
The MR3eq will be a tremendous asset to your studio workflow and recording process.
The MR3eq is a proven equalizer design that provides warm yet extremely accurate results. This equalizer design uses state of the art component technologies while preserving the sound quality found on 100’s of hit records produced over the decades.
The MR3eq includes an extremely versatile three band parametric equalizer with a high pass filter section. This equalizer is designed to provide just what you need across a wide variety of sources in your recordings or mixes. The MR3eq is the third generation of classic equalizer designs found in legendary Harrison console designs from the 70′ and 80’s.
With your new MR3eq module your recordings and mixes will instantly have a punch, smoothness and accuracy that only comes with high performance analog circuit design along with decades of experience in equalizer and filter design and development.
This module has been specifically designed to operate in a 500 format rack such as the API lunch box or equivalent. In common with many such modules, the nominal input / output operating level is +4 dBu.
Thank you!
The Harrison Team
Parametric EQ
The HI EQ section provides a 6 dB/octave shelving response with corner frequency and boost/cut on separate knobs.

  • corner frequency range: 800 Hz – 15 kHz

  • boost/cut range: +/-10 dB
The bell button changes the response from shelving mode to a second-order bell response with the classic Harrison proportional-Q feature where the Q narrows as the boost increases.
The frequency knob now controls the center frequency of the response. The boost/cut range remains +/-10 dB.
The MID EQ section provides a continuously variable Q control ranging from narrow to wide with center frequency and boost/cut controls on separate knobs.

  • center frequency range: 400 Hz – 8 kHz

  • boost/cut range: +/-10 dB

The LOW EQ section provides a 6 dB/octave shelving response with corner frequency and boost/cut on separate knobs.

  • corner frequency range: 40 Hz – 800Hz
  • boost/cut range: +/-10 dB

The HP (high pass) filter section provides a 12 dB/octave slope with 3 dB corner frequency.

  • High Pass Filter: corner frequency range 25 Hz – 3.1 KHz

Other Functions

Separate IN switches are provided for both the HP filter section and the three band parametric EQ section.
Use
Try your new MR3eq on any kind of input source. Use it on vocals, drums, acoustic or electric guitars, keyboards etc. etc. Discover what a well crafted equalizer and filter circuit can add to your arsenal the same way 100’s of legendary engineers did using Harrison consoles through the decades. Enjoy!
