FOOD STORAGE

Refrigerator Compartment

  • To reduce humidity and avoid formation of frost, never place liquids in unsealed containers in the refrigerator. Do not place hot food or evaporating liquid in the refrigerator. Always store food in closed containers or wrapped.
  • Never place warm food in the refrigerator. Warm food should be allowed to cool at room temperature and should be arranged to ensure adequate air circulation in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Make sure no items are in direct contact with the rear wall of the appliance as frost will develop and packaging will stick to it. Do not open the refrigerator door frequently.
  • We recommend that meat and clean fish are loosely wrapped and stored on the glass shelf just abo-ve the vegetable bin where the air is cooler, as this provides the best storage conditions.
  • Store loose fruit and vegetable items in the crisper containers.
  • Do not put wet vegetables into the refrigerator.
  • Storage time for all food products depends on the initial quality of the food and an uninterrupted refri-geration cycle before refrigerator storage.

Freezer Compartment

The freezer compartment is used for freezing fresh food and for storing frozen food for the period of time indicated on packaging, and for making ice cubes.

  • When freezing fresh food, wrap and seal the food properly; the packaging should be air tight and shouldn’t leak. Special freezer bags, aluminum foil (heavy grade, if in doubt double wrap), polythene bags and plastic containers are ideal.
  • The maximum amount of fresh foods that can be loaded in the freezer within 24 hours is indicated on the name plate (see Freezing Capacity).
  • While freezing fresh foods (i.e meat, fish and mincemeat), divide them in parts you will use in one time.
  • Once the unit has been defrosted replace the foods into freezer and remember to consume them in as short period of time.
  • Do not allow the fresh food to be frozen to come into contact with the already frozen food.
  • Always mark the date and the content on the pack and do not exceed the stated storage time.
  • In case of a power failure or malfunction, the freezer compartment will maintain a sufficiently low temperature for food storage. However, avoid opening the freezer door to slow down the temperature rise within the freezer compartment.
  • Never place warm food in the freezer compartment.
  • When purchasing and storing frozen food products, ensure that the packaging is not damaged.
  • Place frozen food in the freezer compartment as soon as possible after buying it.

Once the food has thawed, it must not be refrozen; you must cook it as quickly as possible in order to consume or to freeze once again.

Not that; if you want to open again immediately after closing the freezer door, it will not be opened easily. It’s quite normal! After reaching equilibrium condition, the door will be opened easily.

Important note:

  • Frozen foods, when thawed, should be cooked just like fresh foods. If they are not cooked after being thawed they must NEVER be re-frozen.
  • The taste of some spices found in cooked dishes (anise, basilica, watercress, vinegar, assorted spi-ces, ginger, garlic, onion, mustard, thyme, marjoram, black pepper, etc.) changes and they assume a strong taste when they are stored for a long period. Therefore, the frozen food should be added little amount of spices or the desired spice should be added after the food has been thawed.”
  • The storage period of food is dependent on the oil used. The suitable oils are margarine, calf fat, olive oil and butter and the unsuitable oils are peanut oil and pig fat.
  • The food in liquid form should be frozen in plastic cups and the other food should be frozen in plastic folios or bags.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Disconnect unit from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Do not clean the appliance by pouring wate
  • The refrigerator compartment should be cleaned periodically using a solution of bicarbonate of soda and lukewarm water.

  • When you have finished cleaning, reconnect the plugto the mains supply with dry
  • Clean the condenser with a broom at least twice a year. This will help you to save on energy costs and increase productivity.

Defrosting

For fridge compartment

  • Defrosting occurs automatically in refrigerator compartment during operation ; the defrost water is collected by the evaporating tray and evoparates automatically.
  • The evaporating tray and the defrost water drain hole should be cleaned periodically with defrost drain plug to prevent the water from collecting on the bottom of the refrigerator instead of flowing out.
  • You can also pour 1⁄2 glass of the water to drain hole to clean inside.

For freezer compartment;

The frost, accumulated in the freezer compartment, should be removed periodically. The freezer compartment should be cleaned in the way as the refrigerator compartment, with the defrost operations of the compartment at least twice a year.

For this;

  • The day before you defrost, set the thermostat dial to 5. position to freeze the foods completely.
  • During defrosting, frozen foods should be wrapped in several layers of paper and kept in a cool place. The inevitable rise in temperature will shorten their storage life.
  • Remember to use these foods within a relatively short period of time.
  • Switch the refrigerator off at the socket outlet and pull the main plug
  • Leave the door open and to accelerate the defrosting process one or more basins of warm water can be placed in the freezer compartment.
  • Dry the inside of the unit and water tray, refit the tray plug and set the thermostat knob to 5 position.

The cooling gas which circulates in the refrigerator circuit may make a slight noise(bubbling sound) even when the compressor is not running. Do not worry this is quite normal. If these sounds are different check that ;

  • The appliance is well levelled ,
  • Nothing is touching the rear ,
  • The stuffs on the appliance are vibrating.

If your fridge is operating too loudly Normal Noises

  • Cracking (Ice cracking) Noise: (For no frost/frost free appliances)
  • During automatic defrosting. When the appliance is cooled or warmed (due to expansion of appliance material).
  • Short cracking: Heard when the thermostat switches the compressor on/off.-

Compressor noise

  • Normal motor noise: This noise means that the compressor operates normally
  • The compressor may cause more noise for a short time when it is first activated.

Bubbling noise and splash:

This noise is caused by the flow of the fridge freezer in the tubes of the system.

If your fridge is operating too loudly

  • To maintain the set cooling level, compressor may be activated from time to time. Noises from your fridge at this time are normal and due to its function. When the required cooling level is reached, noises will be decreased automatically.

If the noises persist;

  • Is your appliance stable? Are the legs adjusted?
  • Is there anything behind your fridge?
  • Are the shelves or dishes on the shelves vibrating? Re-place the shelves and/or dishes

if this is the case.

  • Are the items placed on your fridge vibrating?
If you hear any other noises check that:
    The appliance is level

  • Nothing is touching the rear of the appliance

  • The objects on the appliance are vibrating.

Water flow noise: (For no frost/frost free appliances) Normal flow noise of water flowing to the evaporation container during defrosting. This noise can be heard during defrosting.
Air Blow Noise: If the appliance has fan in freezer/cooler /bottom cabinet compartments.

  • This noise can be heard in fridges during normal operation of the system due to the circulation of air.
If there is water in the lower part of the refrigerator:

Check that:

  • The drain hole for the defrost water is not clogged (use thedefrost drain plug to clean the drain hole).

Recommendations

  • If the appliance is switched off or unplugged, wait at least 5 minutes before plugging the appliance in or restarting it in order to prevent damage to the compressor.

  • The cooling unit of your refrigerator is hidden in the rear wall. Therefore, water droplets or icing may occur on the rear surface of your fridge due to the operation of the compressor in specified intervals.
This is normal. There is no need to perform a defrosting operation unless the icing is excessive.

  • If you will not use your fridge for a long time (e.g. in summer holidays), put the thermostat to “•” position.
After defrosting, clean your fridge and leave the door open to prevent humidity and smell.
