IMPORTANT

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Support mirrors bonded to the wall from slumping or falling out until the adhesive has cured.
  • Wear protective gloves and eye protection.

  • This covers product defects for 2 years. Reference the back page for the policy.
  • Breakage/damage on site is not covered under warranty.
  • The bathroom must provide active ventilation that meets the NZ Building Code – clause.

TOOLS & MATERIALS REQUIRED (available from your local retailer)

  • 3M Scotch Indoor double-sided mounting tape. Must be white 25mm wide x 1.5mm thick.
  • Sellys Liquid Nails: Mirror-Metal-Glass. This is clear.
  • Note: Don’t use regular Sellys Liquid nails or a clear acid cure silicone as it will damage the silvered backing.
  • Concealed Fixing: Four wood screws and plasterboard anchors if needed.
  • Holes & Domes: Fastenings are included, but plasterboard anchors may be needed.
  • General: Cleaning cloth, soft pencil & spirit level.

PREPARATION/DETAILING

  • The wall must be flat and have a suitable substrate and preferably a cured painted surface to protect the mirror backing while installing.

MIRRORS OVER VANITIES

INSTALLATION: DIRECT TO WALL

  1. The final film on the mirror back is for shatter protection. For direct gluing, peel the film off carefully starting with a fingernail at one corner and with an even pull to remove this.
    • Take extra care of the silver red backing so as not to scuff or scratch as this may be irreversible .
  2. Clean the rear of the mirror with a cleaning cloth so it is free of dust and particles.
  3. Using a soft pencil and level, gently mark the position where the mirror will be mounted on the wall. Ensure your measurements are correct and level.
  4. Place the 3M Scotch Indoor mounting tape in strips on the rear of the mirror.
    • More mounting tape will be required with larger mirrors.
  5. Place the mirror on the wall in position and press it firmly into place to activate the tape adhesive. Use masking tape across the corners for additional hold until the glue has cured.STEIN-00580923-Bathroom-Mirrors-FIG-1

MIRRORS REQUIRE SUPPORT UNDER EACH SIDE AND ENSURE THERE IS NO LIKELIHOOD OF MOVEMENT OFF THE WALL UNTIL ADHESIVE HAS CURED.

INSTALLATION: CONCEALED FIXING

Two options are available.

  1. As per the instructions below.
  2. Purchase mirror hanging clips from Bunnings (SKU: 00844439)
  3. Take the mirror and mark the position on the wall.
  4. Peel the vinyl backing film off the 4 outside corners, just enough to allow room to glue on fixing brackets. Trim off excess vinyl film. Important: Take extra care of the silvered backing not to scuff or scratch.
  5. Clean the rear of the mirror with a cleaning cloth so it’s free of dust and particles.
  6. Place the fixing brackets on the back of the mirror and accurately mark their position from the corners. Use the Mirror-Metal-Glass adhesive to glue the 4 fixing brackets onto the mirror. Allow 48 hours to cure.STEIN-00580923-Bathroom-Mirrors-FIG-2
  7. From the marked location of the mirror on the wall measure and mark the screw positions. Drill a very small hole at each mark to establish if solid fixing is available. Where there are no solid fixings, you will need to purchase a screw plasterboard anchor and install it as per instructions. Stein recommends Ramset Metal Wallmate” Self-Drilling Plasterboard Anchors. See the diagrams below.
  8. Enter the screw into the wall but leave the head out sufficiently to enter the bracket slot over the screw head and slide down in position.
  9. When the fit is okay, remove the mirror and apply a very small dab of Mirror-Metal-Glass on two bottom brackets to achieve a light hold against the wall. This safety measure protects against knocks or seismic movement releasing the mounting.STEIN-00580923-Bathroom-Mirrors-FIG-3

INSTALLATION: HOLES AND DOMES

  1. Clean the rear of the mirror with a cleaning cloth so it’s free of dust and particles.
    • Important: Take extra care of the silvered backing not to scuff or scratch.
  2. Place the mirror in the desired position and mark the holes with a pencil. Drill a very small hole at each mark to establish if solid fixing is available.
  3. Where there are no solid fixings, you will need to purchase a screw plasterboard anchor and install it as per instructions. Stein recommends Ramset Metal “Wallmate” Self Drilling Plasterboard Anchors.
  4. Fasten the holes and domes mirror to the wall using the following fastening component order.
  5. Washer against the mirror.
  6. Brass washer with recess to the outside (pointing away from the mirror).
  7. Countersunk screw.
  8. Chrome dome was screwed onto the brass washer.STEIN-00580923-Bathroom-Mirrors-FIG-4

CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE

To maintain the appearance of your mirror, particularly when used in a wet or moisture-prone area, it is important to follow all aftercare recommendations as below.

  1. DO NOT use ammonia-based cleaning products such as glass cleaner. These may erode the mirror’s silver backing. Carefully read the label on any cleaning products before use.
  2. Use a slightly moistened microfibre cloth to remove dirt or grime, then buff clean with a dry microfibre cloth.
  3. Do not spray or flood any water or cleaning product directly onto your mirror as this can be sucked up under the back of the mirror with the potential to damage the silvered backing.
  4. Always remember to keep your mirror dry. Wipe off any water, moisture, or steam.
  • Note. Moisture elements can cause the silvered backing on your mirror to darken. This is usually referred to as “black spotting”.
