kiwi bank ID Checker
What is ID Checker?
ID Checker enables customers who are new
to Kiwibank to verify their identity using their smartphone instead of having
to bring ID documents into a branch.
It can be used by customers who have a smartphone, a New Zealand residential
address and either a current New Zealand Passport
or New Zealand Driver Licence.
How do you use it?
To give you an idea, we’ve outlined below
the process for verifying your identity using
ID Checker:
- You’ll receive an email from Kiwibank along with a text message from number 8179. The text message will include a link to ID Checker.
- Using your smartphone and ID document (current New Zealand Passport or New Zealand Driver Licence), click the link to complete the ID verification at id.kiwibank.co.nz (there’s no need to download an app).
- ID Checker will walk you through the steps you need to take.
- Once you’ve finished, if your ID check is successful and your application is approved, you’ll receive an email from Kiwibank.
- If the ID check is unsuccessful, you’ll be contacted by Kiwibank, who will advise you of what documentation is required.
Top tips and support
- ID Checker works best on Android smartphones such as Huawei and Samsung as well as Apple devices (IOS).
- The link to ID Checker will expire so please click on the link and verify your identity as soon as you receive the text.
Tips on how to capture your ID
- To ensure you capture your ID correctly, hold your ID in your hand (Driver Licence example shown below). If you have difficulty holding your ID document and capturing it correctly, you can place it on a table and capture it or ask someone to hold it for you.
Step 1
Your first email and text message
Once Kiwibank have processed your application, you’ll receive a text message
from Kiwibank.
The text message will be sent from number 8179 and will include a link to ID
Checker so you can start the verification process.
Your text message will look like this:
Step 2
Asking for your consent
The ID Checker process will guide you
through the tasks you need to complete.
The first task is to accept the privacy agreement as we need permission for
temporary use of the camera on your phone to capture images of your face and
details of your ID documents.
This is what it looks like:
Step 3
Capturing your ID document
Once you’ve accepted the privacy consent, you’ll then be asked to capture your
ID document. We’ll need to access your camera to complete this process.
Once you’ve clicked “Capture my ID”, ID Checker guides you through the
process, including the action of scanning your face.
Step 4
Choosing your ID type
You’re able to use either a current New Zealand Passport or New Zealand Driver
Licence.
Step 5
Capturing your ID
Once we’ve captured your ID, you’ll be presented with the ‘Reviewing your ID
Data ’ screen below.
Step 6
Checking your information
To ensure we’ve captured the right information from your identification,
you’ll be asked to check the information shown matches your ID document.
This Driver Licence example shows the information you’ll be asked to check to
ensure it matches with your ID document.
Step 7
Verifying your address
As part of the verification process, you’ll be asked to enter your home
address. Start typing your address into the home address field and then tap on
the correct address from the list of addresses displayed.
Step 8
Verifying your face
Next, you’ll be asked to perform a face verification using the camera on your
phone.
Please make sure you don’t have anything covering or shading your face e.g.,
caps, sunglasses. You can wear reading glasses and religious head coverings,
just make sure your face is fully visible.
Follow the instructions ID Checker gives you.
Step 9
Completing the process
Once you’ve completed the ID verification process, you’ll be presented with
the screen below. This lets you know that you’ve completed the ID Checker
steps.
Kiwibank will check the ID verification at our end and will be in touch about
next steps.
And that’s it!
