Types of watch: Your watch uses one of the following:
- Quartz watches are battery-powered and do not require any winding. The battery will need to be replaced periodically.
- LongLife Quartz watches feature special movements with batteries that last for up to 10 years. The battery will need to be replaced, but very infrequently.
- Automatic watches are mechanical and powered by a mainspring, so do not require a battery. Moving your wrist spins a rotor on the movement, winding it “automatically”. If you do not wear your watch for 1-2 days, the mainspring will wind down & the watch will stop. You can manually wind it, or shake your wrist to restart it, and you will need to reset the correct time.
- Solar watches are powered by light hitting a solar panel behind a semi-transparent dial. A rechargeable cell stores light-power, allowing a fully-charged watch to run for up to 6 months in the dark. Please read these instructions carefully to understand how to operate your MOMENTUM watch.

WATER RESISTANCE/WATERPROOF RATING
In the water often? Please note that metal, nylon, or rubber bands are suitable for regular use in water. Leather bands can get wet, but will deteriorate and need frequent replacement if regularly submerged in water.
WATER RESISTANCE
All Momentum watches are designed to get wet. The water-resistance varies by
model, please check the caseback markings for ratings.
- Screw-down crown: most Momentum models and all our dive models have a screw-down crown. For screw crown models, you must unscrew the crown to set the time or date; after setting or re-setting, please ensure the crown is screwed in securely against the case. If your watch leaks because the crown is not screwed down, then water-damage is NOT covered under warranty. Do not adjust the crown or push any buttons if the watch is wet or submerged. If exposed to salt water, rinse your watch with fresh water after use. Regular servicing through an authorized MOMENTUM® Service Centre will ensure reliable water resistance over many years. O3 (Non screw-down) crown: Some models use simpler “push” crowns for simplicity and ease-of-use. These models use special, triple o-ring (O3) crowns that are water-resistant to 100 metres. They are designed to get wet, but please note that models without a screw-down crown are not recommended for SCUBA diving, or prolonged immersion.
- Chronographs : please do NOT push the buttons in the water, as this may force water past the o-ring seals and damage the movement.
TEMPERATURE CARE
Please avoid extreme temperatures. Exposing your watch to high temperatures,
e.g. placing it on a dashboard of a vehicle in direct sun, or in a sauna, may
cause the watch to malfunction, shorten battery life, or cause deformation of
certain components leading to mechanical failure. Leaving the watch in extreme
cold temperatures may cause irregular timekeeping until the watch returns to
normal operating temperatures.
METAL BRACELET ADJUSTMENT
If your watch is equipped with a metal bracelet, it may need adjusting to properly fit your wrist. To avoid damage or scratching, we recommend that this be performed by a watchmaker or jeweller as they will have the professional tools needed. The links of most of our bracelets are held together with split- pins with one “rounded” end. The pins should be pushed out in the direction of the arrow stamped on the inside of the link, (i.e. rounded end first). When re-installing the pins, make sure you slide the pin in against the direction of the arrow, ensuring the narrow end slides in first (see image on previous page). Other metal bracelets may have the links held together by a screw-pin system. For these bracelets, use two small screwdrivers, (one to unscrew and one to hold the opposite end of the screw pin) to adjust the links. Ceramic bracelets may use a pin & flange system. Contact us about sizing these bracelets. It is better to size a metal bracelet too loose than too tight, as the muscles in your wrist will expand when warm. Once the bracelet is close to the right size, some fine adjustment can be made on most bracelets by moving the micro-adjustment spring-bar in the clasp.
Watch band sizes are traditionally measured in MM. It is important to know the lug-width of your watch to get the right size band. (You can order a MOMENTUM® strap tool with a MM scale printed on it.) We also offer special Apple Adapters, which allow you to fit most 22MM bands to any Apple watch (see our website).
REPLACING YOUR BAND OR BRACELET
A complete line of genuine MOMENTUM® replacement bands and bracelets is
available for your watch. Bands can be ordered through your nearest MOMENTUM®
dealer, or directly on momentumwatch.com. If
you are unable to locate a MOMENTUM® dealer, please contact our Service Centre
at watches@momentumwatch.com , or
visit momentumwatch.com/service for
more information. Please note your Model Number and Series Number from the
case back, to order a genuine Momentum band or bracelet.
The Series Number and Model Number of your watch can be found engraved on the case back of each Momentum watch:
Caseback engraving explained:
- ABSeries 7100001 = Production Series Number
- DN11/VX32g/371 = Model Number/Movement Ref/Battery Ref
ROTATING RATCHETED TIMING BEZEL (UNIDIRECTIONAL)
Your watch may be equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel. This is the ring around the outside of the watch face, which turns and gives you a simple and legible way to track elapsed time. Simply turn the bezel counter-clockwise so that the arrow marker is opposite the minute hand. The minute hand will move forward. You can then read the time elapsed since you set the bezel, by looking where the minute hand points on the bezel. Divers traditionally use the timer bezel to track their bottom time for each dive. Even if you use a dive computer, it is a great backup. For non-divers, this can serve as a useful reminder for everyday timing (e.g. remembering elapsed time on a parking meter!).
Note : for safety reasons, timer bezels on dive watches are designed to turn counter-clockwise only. (This prevents you from underestimating your bottom time, if the bezel is accidentally knocked.) (We also offer a selection of models with countdown bezels for special applications. See momentumwatch.com for details.)
Models with Screw-Down Crown
- Screwed down, water-tight
- Neutral position, unscrewed
- Quick-set, for Date, Day/GMT
- Time-Setting position – set hands
After setting, ensure the crown is screwed in firmly before getting it wet!
SETTING THE TIME & DATE
If your watch has a screw-crown, first unscrew the crown (C) to the neutral
position (1A). Once the crown is unscrewed, it can be pulled out halfway to
the Quick-set position (2), or all the way out to the
Time-Setting position (3).
Starting in position 2 (quick-set), turn in one direction to set the date.
TIP : never use the quick-set within 2 hours of midnight as this may
damage the calendar mechanism.
SETTING THE DAY
If your watch has a day-date, set the date, then turn the crown in the
opposite direction to set the day. Once the day Is set, pull out the crown to
position 3 & turn the hands forward to set the correct time.
TIP : If the date changes at noon instead of midnight, simply turn the
hands forward 12 hours.
Always push the crown in squarely against the case, and screw it in securely against the case after setting! Your watch considers a 31 day month. In short months, use the Quick-set to advance the date one day at month-end.
AUTOMATIC – STARTING YOUR WATCH
Automatic models use a mechanical movement, with no batteries. They are
“powered” by a main-spring, which needs to be wound regularly. Provided you
wear your watch daily, the regular motion of your wrist will cause a rotor in
the back of the movement to spin, thereby winding your watch. When fully
wound, your watch will run for approximately 35 hours without motion. If you
do not wear your watch for a longer period, it will stop: You must give it a
good shake to spin the automatic rotor and start the watch. You can also
unscrew the crown to the neutral position, then give it several turns to
manually wind the watch and start it running. Once the watch is running, set
the time & date, then screw down the crown securely.
AUTOMATIC – SETTING THE TIME & DATE
For screw-crown models, start by unscrewing the crown. Once unscrewed, the
crown will be in the “NEUTRAL” (manual winding) position [1A]. Pull the crown
out 1 click to position 2 [QUICK-SET] to set the date. Pull the crown all the
way out to position 3 [TIME SETTING] to turn the hands forward and set the
time. (The second hand will “hack” (stop) when the crown is in position 3 for
timesetting.) (*Do not use the quick-set to set the date within 2 hours before
or after midnight, as this may damage the date mechanism.)
NOTE : If the date is changing at mid-day instead of midnight, simply
turn the hands forward 12 hours.
GMT – SETTING AND USING THE GMT FUNCTION
To set the watch, unscrew the crown if your model has a screw crown. Pull the
crown out one click to the quick-set position II. Turning the crown clockwise
will change the date; turning a few turns in the opposite direction will set
the GMT time. Pull the crown out one more click to position III, then turn
forward to set the time. For screw crown models, once the watch is set, always
press in firmly and screw the crown in securely against the case. For non-
screw crown models, simply press the crown in firmly against the case, before
getting your watch wet.
TIP : GMT models show GMT time on a 24-hour scale, (military time), so the GMT hand moves once around the dial in 24 hours. Read GMT time from the 24-hour GMT scale on your watch, not from the regular hour markers! You can also use the GMT function to show any other time zone (e.g. your home-time when you are travelling); Just remember that the GMT hand shows time on the 24-hour scale, so 6PM GMT (18:00 hours) will be shown at the 9 o’clock position on the dial.
CHRONOGRAPHS- SETTING, TIMING AN EVENT, RE-ZEROING
To set the time: on screw-crown models, first unscrew the crown (C). Then,
pull out half way to the Quick-set position to set the date. Pull the crown
out all the way to the Time-Setting position to set the time. Turn the hands
forward until the correct time is displayed.
( NOTE : If setting the watch after noon, turn the hands forward at least
12 hours, otherwise, the date will change at noon.)
Using the Chronograph (stopwatch). Press the top button to start timing. Press the top button again to stop timing. Press the bottom button to reset the chronograph to zero.
RE-ALIGNING CHRONO HANDS: nearly all chrono movements have a clutching mechanism to protect the stepping motor that drives the second hand. The second hand can become misaligned, e.g. after a battery change, or after a severe impact. To rezero the chrono, follow the instructions for your model, or email us and we will email you request specific instructions. For screw- crown models, ensure you also press and screw the crown in securely after any adjustements or setting!
NOTE : Instructions for different chronograph movement calibres vary. A
model specific chronograph instruction sheet is usually delivered with your
watch, or visit momentumwatch.com to look up your model and download a PDF of
instructions. If you have any difficulty, please contact Momentum customer
service by email (below), with the alpha-numeric model number on the caseback
(e.g. DV26, SN26, SN34) and we would be happy to email you a PDF with the
specific instructions for your watch.
