Standard Accessories (Thermo Grip Cover)
The Insta360 X4 can record videos at a high resolution, up to 8K30fps.
Recording at a higher resolution requires more power, which may cause the
camera to heat up and feel hot. If you are recording 8K video for a long time,
it is recommended to use the Thermo Grip Cover, which reduces the camera’s
surface temperature and makes it more comfortable to hold.
Note: Not recommended for skiing, water sports, motorcycling, cycling,
and other sports.
How to Use
- Install the Thermo Grip Cover on the back of X4, starting from the top of the camera and lowering it towards the camera body.
- Ensure the Thermo Grip Cover fits snugly on the back of the camera to reduce the temperature effectively.
- Gently pull the Thermo Grip Cover from the top of the camera to remove it.
Precautions
- Install/remove the Thermo Grip Cover carefully to ensure the camera’s lenses are not scratched or damaged.
- Make sure the camera is dry before installing the Thermo Grip Cover. It is splashproof only and is not designed for use in and around water.
- Do not install/remove the Thermo Grip Cover while recording to avoid affecting the stitching of the final image.
- The Thermo Grip Cover cannot be used with the following Insta360 accessories: Invisible Dive Case, Utility Frame, Water Sports Rope Mount, and Cold Shoe.
Initial Setup
Installing Lens Guards
The Insta360 X4 includes Standard Lens Guards for basic protection. For
enhanced durability, opt for the Premium Lens Guards (available separately).
To install both front and rear Lens Guards, follow these steps:
- Align the mark on the Lens Guards with the slot on the lower right side of the lens.
- Rotate the Lens Guards clockwise to align with the camera’s microphone, ensuring they are securely fastened.
- After installation, activate “Lens Guards Mode” in the camera settings. Swipe down from the top of the touchscreen to access the Shortcut Menu, then tap the Lens Guards icon.
When filming in “Auto” mode, the camera will detect the presence of Lens Guards and automatically adjust for optimal stitching in 360° footage.
- To remove the Lens Guards, grip the base edge firmly and twist counterclockwise. Remember to deactivate “Lens Guard Mode” after removal.
Automatic Detection:
- Auto mode is pre-selected and automatically detects the presence or absence of Lens Guards. However, for optimal stitching, manually select the appropriate Lens Guards Mode—Standard or Premium—based on your Lens Guards type.
After removing the Lens Guards, ensure the camera is set to “No Lens Guards” to prevent potential stitching issues.
Reframing 360° Footage:
- For seamless stitching during reframing in the Insta360 app or Studio, always activate Lens Guard Mode.
Notes:
- Avoid excessive force when installing Lens Guards to prevent shape distortion or reduced adhesion.
- Confirm secure installation by aligning the blue mark on the Lens Guards with the camera’s microphone before usage.
- Enable “Lens Guard Mode” while using Lens Guards and disable it when removing them.
- Replace dirty or worn Lens Guards to maintain image quality.
- Refrain from using Lens Guards in wet conditions, such as water or rain, due to their non-sealed design.
- To prevent fogging, dry Lens Guards thoroughly with a soft cloth if exposed to water, snow, or fog.
Inserting the MicroSD Card
- Begin by removing the battery. Pinch the latches on the cover towards each other to release it.
- Insert the memory card into the slot, following the indicated direction.
- Reinsert the battery and ensure the battery cover is securely locked. Verify that the latch covers the orange indication marks to maintain waterproofing integrity.
Note: Use microSD cards formatted in exFAT with speed classes UHS-I and V30 or higher for normal recording. The maximum supported storage capacity is 1TB.
External Devices
- Remove the USB Port Cover to connect external devices. Open the cover and pull it off.
- With the cover removed, you can attach accessories such as the Insta360 X4 Mic Adapter or Quick Reader.
- After attaching accessories, reattach the USB Port Cover by hooking it onto the metal bar and closing it securely to maintain waterproofing.
Charging
- Open the USB Port Cover.
- Connect the X4 to the charger using the provided Type-C to C Cable.
X4 supports PD fast charging with official power accessories (X4 Battery and
Fast Charge Hub), enabling your camera to reach 80% charge in 26 minutes and
100% in 43 minutes.
Ensure you use a charging adapter compatible with the PD protocol and with a
charging capacity of at least 36W.
During charging, the Indicator Lights will emit a solid red light, turning off
once the battery is fully charged.

Parameters | Descriptions |
---|---|
Shutter Speed | Controls the time it takes for light to enter the camera. |
The faster the shutter speed, the clearer the image. Make this higher for
dynamic shots and lower for low light conditions.
Sensitivity (ISO)| Reflects how sensitive the sensor is to light. A
higher sensitivity means the camera can capture more light for a brighter
image.
Exposure Compensation Value (EV)| In Auto Mode, you can adjust the
EV to help with overexposure or underexposure.
White Balance (WB)| Removes unrealistic colors and tones so colors are
accurately captured in the image. A higher white balance produces warmer
tones, lower results in cooler tones.
Low Light Stabilization| Improves motion blur and stabilization in low
light environments. In extreme environments, the image will be darker and may
have some flickering.
---|---
Filters| Add different colour tones and effects.
Metering Mode| Face Priority prioritizes the face for brightness. Matrix
ensures accurate exposure of the whole image.
Balanced Exposure| The screen will automatically equalize the exposure
according to the environment.
