When using this money counter, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons, including the following:

Operation Method

  • Connect the power cord to the machine, then to a power source and turn the power switch on; the machine will conduct a self-check by spinning the counting wheels several times. The counting number display will show “O” when the machine is ready.
  • To avoid incorrect detection, please check and remove the following bills before counting:
    • Wet, excessively dirty, spoiled, folded, curled or with foreign material like clips, bands etc.

Bills such as these can cause the machine to malfunction.

Hopper Plate Adjustment

When bill feeding is not smooth or banknote counting is inaccurate, you can resolve the issue by adjusting the vertical adjusting screw and the gap between the resistance rubber and rubber wheel. After adjusting, insert a banknote and hold it; if you feel the pull, the machine is functioning properly.

  • To increase friction, turn the screw clockwise to decrease the gap.
  • To reduce friction, turn the screw counterclockwise to increase the gap.

Control Panel Introduction

  • Button AIM: Choose Auto or Manual Start.
  • Button PRINT: When your value counter is connected to a printer, then in REPORT mode (press REPORT to get in), press this PRINT button to print out the detail. Button ADD: The default function is to switch on/off ADD function.
  • Button MENU: Enter Menu while in main interface, password is 9999. In various menu screens, this button functions as the “select”.
  • Button BATCH: Switch on/off batch mode.
  • Button CUR: Show up the available currency names in your machine.
  • Button MODE: Choose Sort mode, Count mode and Mix mode.
  • Button REPORT: To check the detail counted information.
  • Button : When BATCH is on, then use j ! buttons to input the batch number. Move cursor up or down in Menu.
  • Button START: This button is used to start counting or save setting in MENU.
  • Button CLEAR: The default function is to clear the input or back to previous interface.

Operation Mode

Count mode

  • Press button MODE to select Count mode.
  • As shown below, the machine is in Count mode. This mode does not read the currency and only counts the number of bills. It operates with the double note detection only, all other counterfeit detections are disabled while in Count mode.

Sort mode

  • Press button MODE to select Sort mode. This mode is used to count a single denomination bill. The system will use the first note as the benchmark and will stop counting when a denomination change occurs.
  • As shown below, the counter is in Sort mode. In this mode, the counter will count banknotes of the same denomination as the selected currency, using the first banknote counted as a reference. It will also save the information of the counted banknotes simultaneously, including the total amount and the total number of banknotes in the stacker. This information is displayed on the unit’s display.

Mix mode

  • Press button MODE to select Mix mode. This mode is designed for value counting of mixed denomination bills. To view the counting details, simply press the REPORT button.
  • As indicated below, the counter is currently in Mix mode. In this mode, it will accurately count banknotes of all denominations of the selected currency. Additionally, it will save detailed information about the counted banknotes, including the total amount and the total number of banknotes in the stacker. This information is conveniently displayed on the unit’s display for easy reference.

Setting Menu

  • Press the Menu button once, you will see setting menu with the following main interface.
  • Use the cursor to select the sub-menu you want to enter, and press Menu or Start button to confirm, and press CLEAR button to quit.

If you want to enter the service menu, you will be requested to input a password with the following interface. The default password is 9999.

After you input the password 9999, the interface will jump to the following one:

  • You can use the cursor to select the next submenu and press Menu or Start button to confirm and use CLEAR to quit.
  • If you select to enter “Read sensor values”, you will see the following interface.
    • This interface is only for serving purpose to see whether any sensor has a malfunction.
  • If you select “Calibration,” you will see the following interface guiding you through the process of color balancing for IR sensors. Steps:
    1. Open the upper cover and clean the IR Sensor with a brush.
    2. Place the calibration white paper between the two sensor bars. as it is shown in the section 12 Calibration
    3. Press the START button to initiate calibration.
    4. After calibration is complete, turn off the machine and then power it on again.
  • If you enter “MG/MT waveforms”, you will see the following interface.
  • If you enter “Function Setting” You will see the following interface.
  • If you enter “Auto Diagnostic”, you will see the following interface. This option is to be used for production and professional servicing purposes.
  • “PCS counted and reset” no function.
  • “Acquire image” no function.
  • If you select to enter “Detection level”, you will see the following interface. You can use an up and down cursor to select, and press MENU to confirm the selection, then press up and down cursor to change the sensitivity levels. The currency code on the left part indicates for which currency you are operating. (Please do not change without communicating with Kolibri USA)
  • If you select to enter “Back to Default setting”, you will see the following interface.
  • If you select to enter “version information” under the main menu, you will see the following interface.
  • If you select to enter “Current time setting” under the main menu, you will see the following interface. To change year, month, or time press “MENU” button to select and/or scroll between year, month etc. Adjust by up or down buttons.
  • If you select to enter “select the language”, you will see the following interface.

Detection

  • This counter incorporates various detection including UV {ultraviolet), MG (magnetic), MT (magnetic thread), Reflected IR mapping and penetrating IR mapping.

Maintenance And Troubleshooting

  • During the operation of the machine, there can be abnormal states, which will be indicated by error codes displayed on the screen.
  • Please refer to the table below for descriptions of the error codes and the corresponding methods for resolving them.
Code Cause Solution
E1 UV sensor error Remove the bills and clean the UV sensor
E2 Double note error If errors occur frequently, adjust the screw clockwise

to decrease the feed gap
E3| Chain note error
E4| Slanted note error| Adjust the bill guides equally from both the left and right sides
E8| Recognition timeout| Remove the bills then count again
E11| Wrong Denomination| The unit is in Sort mode with non-confirmed denomination. Please remove the top bill from the stacker
E12| Image error| Remove the top bill from the stacker. Clean the IR sensor or perform the calibration
E13| Orientation recognition error
E20| MG error| Remove the top bill from the stacker. Clean the MG sensors

Calibration

  1. Lift the top cover of the unit and find a sensor block that needs to be opened to get access to IR sensors.
  2. Lift the upper IR bar.
  3. Clean IR bars with cloth.
  4. Insert the calibration paper from the front side of the unit.
  5. Close upper IR bar back.
  6. Press the start button. If the message “adjust start” appears on the screen, and “Adjust succeed 1” displays, calibration is complete. Power off the machine and turn it back on to resume normal operation.

If a different message appears on the screen, check the position of the calibration card. Ensure it is properly inserted and covers both IR sensors.
Then, press the START button again.

Warranty

Warranty Information

The Kolibri KBR-500 is warranted for three years from the date of purchase.
In most cases, a unit malfunction can easily be corrected by performing a thorough cleaning.

  • Customer should allow the manufacturer the time and opportunity to test and diagnose the machine to determine warranty and non-warranty claims
  • After receiving and unpacking the unit, the customer shall keep the package and its user manual. Warranties are canceled in the event the device is transported in a non-original packaging or operation/maintenance conditions are not met.
  • Kolibri is not responsible for unit malfunction or damage caused by improper maintenance, storage, use or transportation.
  • Kolibri is entitled to introduce updated software, not described in the current user manual

Non-Warranty Service:

The manufacturer can perform maintenance and clean a unit for an extra fee.
For a non-warranty repair or maintenance quotation, contact our Technical Support team.

Warranty service is not available in the following cases:

  • Cleaning of the unit from dust and mud
  • Operation or maintenance requirements set in the user manual are not met
  • There is mechanical damage to the unit, or the sealed portions of the unit have been opened or tampered with
  • There are foreign objects or liquids inside the unit

If the product is still under warranty the shipping to Kolibri’s technical service center is covered by the customer.
