This is an easy, traditional design that is great for beginners. Choose a
floral, or all-over print and 2 contrasting colors or values, plus a
background neutral. The border and binding can be one of these main fabrics,
or alternates of your choice that will
coordinate. The fabric requirements appear in the list below to reference if
you are choosing either option.
Once this chain pattern is in your quilting quiver, you can use it in other
quilts, alternating with other pieced or whole cloth blocks to add additional
interest. It’s a versatile skill for future pattern designing.
For the best result, use only 100% cotton quilting fabric. Home dec, outdoor
fabric, polyester blends will not perform in the same way. Pre-washing the
fabric is highly recommended. Just remember to serge or zig-zag the cut edges
first (to keep them from raveling in the laundry), and drop in a color catcher
or 2 in case of color bleeding.
