Students will come to class with a simple quilt block already pieced (see class preparation instructions below). We feel it is very important to learn this technique on a quilt top that actually has seams and ditches instead of practicing on a panel. Doing this bit of sewing at home will allow us to have more time to work with rulers. We will layer the quilt top and have lots of time to practice quilting with rulers. You will be amazed at how easy it is.
Discussion topics include supplies, use of straight edge rulers to complete all of our in-the-ditch quilting, and use of a variety of curved rulers to create some fun designs to complete the quilt. We have lots of samples to share, and a demonstration will be provided on how to do a beautiful and easy faux-piped binding.

Prepare for Class
Using a variety of solid fabrics, cut:
- Nine 5″ squares
- Two 2 ½” x 14 ½” strips and two 2 ½” x 19” strips for the inside border
- Two 3 ½” x 19” strips and two 3 ½” x 24 ½” strips for the outside border
- One 26″ square of backing fabric
- One 26″ square of batting
Sew 5” squares together in 3 rows of 3 squares to make a 9-patch block, add 2 ½” inside border strips, and then the 3 ½” outside border strips to make a small quilt top. We will baste the quilt layers in class.
