Product Information

Specifications:

  • Brand: Three Peaks Models
  • Model: Barton Bedford VAL
  • Website:www.threepeaksmodels.co.uk
  • Material: Resin
  • Recommended Glue: Cyanoacrylate super glue

Product Usage Instructions

General Notes

  • Keep the model parts out of direct sunlight to prevent UV degradation of the resin material. Use a soft toothbrush and warm water to clean any residual stickiness on the resin shell.

Neaten if Required

  • Use fine sandpaper or a fine file to remove any lumps or spots on the model. Trim parts carefully with a craft knife, especially delicate details on the bus.

Dry Run Fitting Items Together

  • Before painting, test fit the parts together to ensure proper alignment. The floor should fit snugly into the base of the shell.

Before Decorating

  • Prepare the model for painting by ensuring all parts are clean and dry.

Decorate

  • Roof down to metal trim above windows: Dark red
  • The section between roof trim and wide metal trim below windows: Cream
  • The back side of mirrors: Cream
  • Front of the bus,   metal trim,   and rest of the bus shell: Bright red
  • Area below grille: Black
  • Areas beside grille holding headlights: Light grey
  • Metal trim: Shiny metallic color

Reassemble and Glue

Once painted, reassemble the model using cyanoacrylate superglue. Apply glue sparingly on the lips to secure the floor in place.

FAQ

Q: Can I use any type of glue on the model parts?

A: It is recommended to use cyanoacrylate superglue for best results as other glues may not bond well with the resin material.

Q: How should I store the model when not in use?

A: Store the model in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent UV degradation and brittleness of the resin parts.

Kit contents

  • Shell
  • Floor (either 56 or 50 seats)
  • Back wheel (x2)
  • Front-wheel (x4)
  • Mirrors (x2) (not N)
  • Clear front window
  • Clear rear window

General Notes

  • Keep the parts of the model out of direct sunlight while unpainted. The resin used is susceptible to UV degradation and will become brittle.
  • Cyanoacrylate super glue is the best type of glue to use on all parts.
  • If the resin shell has any residual stickiness to it, it can be washed with some warm water, and use a soft toothbrush brush to gently brush that area.

Instructions

  1. Neaten if required
  2. The production process for the parts can leave many small lumps or spots on the model.
  3. The model may need some gentle sanding with fine sandpaper or a fine file to remove the lumps. A craft knife can also be used to trim parts.
  4. Be mindful of some of the delicate details on the bus.
  5. Dry run fitting items together
    • We recommend doing a test run of fitting parts together so you get a feel for it before paint is applied to the model.
    • The floor should fit into the base of the shell. On the inside of the shell, there are lips on the sides that the floor will sit up against to stop it from moving too far in the shell.
  6. Before decorating
    • The wheels have a hole in the back of them that is suitable for a 1mm brass rod so that axles can be created to hold the wheels. The brass rod will sit in the channels that run across the width of the floor.
    • If you don’t wish to have wheels on axles, the wheels may be glued directly onto the inside of the wheel arches – but we recommend leaving this until after they are painted.
    • For wheels on axles, you will need the following lengths of 1mm brass rod:
    • OO (1:76) – 2×27mm, 1×20mm
    • N (1:148) – 2×14mm, 1×10mm
    • 1:50 – 2×42mm, 1×30mm
    • The one shorter piece is for the back wheels. The brass rod can be glued into the holes with a cyanoacrylate superglue.
    • If your model has been supplied with mirrors, these should be glued in place. They should sit just below the point in the roof trim on the front corners of the bus – see the picture.
    • The mirrors are not identical, and in the correct orientation, they will be set further forward rather than further to the side.
  7. Decorate
    • Once you are happy with the fit of the parts, and all glued parts are dry, decorate the bus as you wish. We do include a livery suggestion below if you would like to use it.
    • The model can be painted with standard modeling acrylics. We recommend spraying the model parts with a primer before painting.
    • The molded windscreens should be fitted from the inside of the bus. Generally, the sides of the plastic surround need to be trimmed close to the window but it’s OK to have greater excess at the top and bottom.
    • Ensure the inside still fits before you commit to gluing the windows in place
    • If you wish to add glazing to the rest of the bus, this should be done at this point as well, after painting.
  8. Reassemble and glue
    • Once you are happy, the model can be reassembled following the same instructions as in step 2. To keep the parts in place, use a cyanoacrylate superglue.
    • A small spot of glue on the lips should be sufficient for the floor. Note that the glue can set very quickly on the resin.

Suggestion for livery colours – Barton Transport:

  • The roof down to the metal trim that runs just above the windows should be painted a dark red.
  • The section between that roof trim and the wide metal trim that runs below the windows should be painted cream. The back side of the mirrors was also cream.
  • Apart from some details on the front of the bus and the metal trim, the rest of the bus shell should be painted bright red.
  • The area below the grille on the front of the bus should be painted black, and the areas on either side of the grille that hold the headlight should be painted a light grey.
  • There is a large amount of metal trim on the bus which should be highlighted in a shiny metallic colour.

This includes the following areas:

  • the trim just above the windows that dips down to points at the corners of the bus and the wide trim below the windows,
  • the trim around the wheel arches, the wider strip that runs along the bus just above them, the thin trim that drops down from the window above the front wheels to meet the wider strip, and the thin trim that runs between the bumpers on both side of the bus
  • the grille bars and the trim around the headlights
  • strips at the top and bottom of both bumpers
  • the rectangular trim on the rear of the bus
  • the surrounds of the windows, the window bars, and the surrounds of the destination boards
  • and for those with a steady hand – the Europa lettering on both sides of the bus.
  • The inside of the wheels can be either painted in a shiny metal or cream.
