Product Usage Instructions

Getting Started:

Charge the device by following the instructions on page 5 of the manual.
Turn on the device and select your language as per instructions on page 4.
Pair your phone with the Garmin Explore app by following the steps on page 6.
Go outdoors to allow the device to locate satellites for tracking your path.
Navigate to a destination using the guidance provided on page 9.

Charging the Device:

Ensure the USB port and surrounding area are dry before charging.
Connect the cable to the charging port on the device and plug the other end into a USB charging port.
The device will turn on when connected to a power source.
Charge the device completely and close the weather cap after charging.

Tips for Solar Charging:

Solar charging optimizes and extends battery life by detecting sunlight even when the device is turned off.
The device protects itself from overheating and stops charging if the internal temperature exceeds the threshold.
Solar charging does not occur when connected to an external power source or when the battery is full.

Pairing Your Phone:

Bring your phone within 10 meters of the device.
Select Setup > Pair Phone from the main menu on your device.
Install and open the Garmin Explore app on your phone, then follow on-screen instructions to pair your device.
Once paired, the device and phone will connect automatically when turned on and within range.

Glances:

Compass: Displays an electronic compass.
Sunrise/Sunset: Shows sunrise and sunset times based on GPS position.
Weather: Provides current temperature and forecast from paired phone.
Moon Phase : Displays moonrise, moonset times, and moon phase based on GPS position.

FAQ

What should I do if the device does not charge?

Getting Started

Charge the device.
Turn on the device and select your language.
Pair your phone with the Garmin Explore™ app.
The app allows you to receive notifications, view weather forecasts, search for live geocache data, and more.
Go outdoors to an open area and wait while the device locates satellites.
When the device acquires satellite signals, it automatically starts tracking your path and recording it as an activity.
Navigate to a destination.

Charging the Device

To prevent corrosion, thoroughly dry the USB port, the weather cap, and the surrounding area before charging or connecting to a computer.
NOTE: The device will not charge when outside the approved temperature range.

Pull up the weather cap 1 from the USB port 2.
Plug the cable into the charging port on the device.
Plug the other end of the cable into a USB charging port.
When you connect the device to a power source, the device turns on.
Charge the device completely.
After you charge the device, close the weather cap.

Tips for Solar Charging

Solar charging is designed to optimize and extend your battery life. Solar charging occurs whenever the device detects sunlight, even if it is turned off.

Regular outdoor use in sunny conditions can extend your battery life.
Point the screen toward sunlight to maximize solar gain.
Avoid excessive heat, which can slow down charging.
NOTE: The device protects itself from overheating and stops charging automatically if the internal temperature exceeds the solar charging temperature threshold.
NOTE: The device does not solar charge when connected to an external power source or when the battery is full.

Pairing Your Phone

To use the connected features of your device, you should pair it with the Garmin Explore app.

Bring your compatible phone within 10 m (33 ft.) of your device.
From the main menu on your device, select Setup > Pair Phone.
From the app store on your phone, install and open the Garmin Explore app.
From the app, select the Devices option, and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your device.
After the device and phone are paired, they connect automatically when they are turned on and within range.

Glances

Your device comes preloaded with glances that provide quick information. Some glances require a Bluetooth® connection to a compatible phone (page 6).
Hold to view the glance loop.

Compass: Displays an electronic compass.
Sunrise/Sunset: Displays sunrise and sunset times, based on your GPS position.
Weather: Displays the current temperature and weather forecast from your paired phone.
Moon Phase: Displays the moonrise and moonset times, along with the moon phase, based on your GPS position.
Geocaching: Displays the nearest downloaded geocache. While navigating, this glance displays the geocache you are navigating to.
Notifications: Alerts you to incoming calls, texts, social network updates, and more from your paired phone.
Solar: Displays graphs showing the intensity of solar input and battery minutes gained.

Tracking Pages

From the main menu, select

Tracking, and select to scroll through the pages. You can press OK to open the options menu for each page.
Map page: Shows your position and heading on the map.
Compass page: Guides you to your destination by displaying a compass and bearing pointer.
Trip computer: Displays helpful statistics such as your current speed, trip odometer, and elevation. You can customize the data fields displayed.
Navigation page: This page appears while navigating. It displays the name of the location, the distance to the final destination, the speed of travel, and a direction arrow. You can follow the arrow to navigate.

Navigating to a Destination

From the home page, press to scroll through the apps on the device.
Select Navigate.
Select a category.
Select a destination.
Press OK to open the options menu.
Select Go.
A navigation page is added to the tracking page loop. You can navigate using the navigation page, map, or compass.

Saved Data

From the home page, select Saved.

Waypoints:
- Waypoints are locations you record and store in the device.
- Waypoints can mark where you are, where you are going, or where you have been.
Courses: A course is a sequence of waypoints or locations that leads you to your final destination.
Activities: Your device records your path as an activity.
Collections: You can use the Garmin Explore app to group related waypoints, courses, or activities into collections. You can show or hide the data in each collection on the device.
