- Years 3/4 (5/6-7/8)
- To fit underarm 58/60 (63/65-68/70) cm
- To measure (approx) 62 (70-78) cm
- Length 38 (41-45) cm
YARN
- Cakes Yarn 100g x 2 (2-3) balls
NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
- A pair each 5mm and 5.50mm Knitting Needles and 5mm and 5.50mm Circular Needles (60cm) or sizes that give correct tension.
- 2 stitch holders.
- A yarn needle.
TENSION
- 15½ sts and 20 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50mm needles.
BACK AND FRONT
- Using 5mm circular needle, cast on 96 (108-120) sts.
- Join into a round, noting not to twist sts. Place a marker to indicate beg of each round.
- Beg rib – 1st round – K2, P2, rep from to end.
- Rep 1st round until work measures 5 cm from beg.
- Change to 5.50mm circular needle.
- Next round – Knit.
- Rep last round until work measures 18 (20-23) cm from beg.
- Beg ridges – 1st round – Purl.
- 2nd round – Purl.
- 3rd round – Knit.
- 4th round – Knit.
- 5th round – Purl.
- 6th round – Purl.
- 7th round – Knit, dec 4 (0-4) sts evenly around = 92 (108-116) sts.
- Change to pair 5.50mm needles.
- Note – Work in rows, not rounds.
- Beg box stitch – 1st row (RS) – K2, (P2, K2) 11 (13-14) times, turn.
- Cont on these 46 (54-58) sts for rem of Back.
- 2nd row – P2, K2, P2, rep from to end.
- 3rd row – P2, K2, P2, rep from to end.
- 4th row – K2, P2, K2, rep from to end.
- Rows 1 to 4 incl form box stitch for rem of Back.
- Cont in box stitch patt until work measures 24 (26-29) cm from beg, working last row on WS.
- Shape Armholes – Keeping patt correct, cast off 4 (5-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows = 38 (44-48) sts.
- Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 32 (36-38) sts rem.
- Cont in patt without shaping until armholes measure 14 (15-16) cm, working last row on WS.
- Shape Shoulders – Cast off 7 (9-10) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
- Leave rem 18 sts on a stitch holder and leave for Neckband.
- With RS facing and using pair 5.50mm needles, join yarn to rem 46 (54-58) sts for rem of Front.
- Beg box stitch – Work in box stitch patt as for Back until work measures same as Back to beg of armholes, ending with same patt row on WS.
- Shape Armholes and Divide for V Neck – Cast off 4 (5-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows = 38 (44-48) sts.
- Next row – K2tog, patt 16 (19-21), turn.
- ** Cont on these 17 (20-22) sts and dec one st at armhole edge in every foll alt row 2 (3-4) times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 8 (11-13) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 7 (9-10) sts rem.
- Cont in patt without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with same part row on WS.
- Shape Shoulder – Cast off rem sts. **
- Slip next 2 sts onto a stitch holder for Neckband.
- With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and patt to last 2 sts, K2tog.
- Rep from to , working 1 row more before shoulder shaping.
NECKBAND
- Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing and using 5mm circular needle, knit up 28 (32-36) sts evenly along left front neck, K2 (centre front sts) from stitch holder, knit up 28 (32-36) sts evenly along right front neck, then knit across sts from back stitch holder = 76 (84-92) sts.
- 1st round – K2, P2, rep from to end.
- 2nd round – Rib to within one st of centre 2 sts, K2tog, sl 1, K1, psso, rib to end = 74 (82-90) sts.
- Rep 2nd round until neckband measures 2.5 cm.
- Cast off loosely.
ARMHOLE BANDS
- Using a flat seam, sew side edges of Back and Front from divide to beg of armhole shaping.
- With RS facing and using 5mm circular needle, knit up 64 (68-72) sts evenly around armhole edge.
- 1st round – K2, P2, rep from to end.
- Rep 1st round until armhole band measures 2.5 cm.
- Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
- DO NOT PRESS
- Darn in all ends.
