When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE. THIS PRODUCT IS INTENDED FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. IF USED COMMERCIALLY WARRANTY IS VOID.

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, DAMAGE OR INJURY:

Fully assemble before operating.
Operate cleaner only at voltage specified on data plate on lower back of cleaner.
Do not leave appliance when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning or servicing.
Use indoors only.
Do not immerse. Use only on carpet moistened by cleaning process.
Use only HOOVER cleaning products intended for use with this machine.
Do not allow to be used as a toy. Not intended for use by children age 12 and under. Close supervision is necessary when used near children. To avoid injury or damage, keep children away from product, and do not allow children to place fingers or other objects into any openings.
Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments and products.
Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, take it to a service center prior to continuing use.
Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not place product on cord. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow.
Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
Turn off all controls before unplugging.
Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. To avoid personal injury or damage and to prevent the cleaner from falling, always place cleaner at bottom of stairs or on floor. Do not place cleaner on stairs or furniture, as it may result in injury or damage.
Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or fine wood sandings, or use in areas where they may be present.
Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions.
Unplug before connecting SpinScrub® powered hand tool.
Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
Do not use without filters and tanks in place.
Do not clean over floor electrical outlets.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS:
This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor (C) and grounding plug (A). The plug must be inserted into an appropriate outlet (B) that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in the risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance – if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug (A) illustrated in Fig. 1. A temporary adapter (D) may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle (E) if a properly grounded outlet is not available (Fig. 2). The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet (B) can be installed by a qualified electrician (Fig. 1). The green colored rigid ear, lug, or the like (F) extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground (G) such as a properly grounded outlet box cover (Fig. 2). Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal screw. NOTE: In Canada, the use of a temporary adapter is not permitted by the Canadian Electrical Code

Avoid picking up hard, sharp objects with this product, as they may cause damage.
Store appropriately indoors in a dry place. Do not expose machine to freezing temperatures.
Do not use sharp objects to clean out hose as they can cause damage.
To assist in reducing drying time, be certain the area is well ventilated when using detergents and other cleaners with this machine.
To help prevent matting and resoiling, avoid contact with carpets until they are dry. Keep children and pets away from carpets until they are completely dry.
Do not store extractor with solution in tanks.
With brushes and brush roll on, do not allow cleaner to sit in one location for an extended period of time, as damage to the floor can result.
Do not use this extractor on hard floors. Using this machine on hard floors may scratch or damage your floor.
Water will drip from the brushes and underside of the product after use and may puddle. To avoid damage to wood and laminate flooring and to avoid potential slip hazard, after use (a) do not leave the product on wood and laminate surfaces and remove to a hard surface and (b) place unit on absorbent material (such as a towel) to soak up drips.

How to assemble your Power Scrub Elite™

Insert the handle into the base.
Insert both screws and tighten with a screwdriver.
Angle the Solution/Clean Water tank above the Dirty Water Recovery Tank and click it into place.
Wrap the power cord around the cord hooks for convenient storage.

Cleaning Modes

Turn the cleaning mode selection dial on the base of the unit to choose your preferred cleaning mode. Align arrow to preferred mode.
- a. Quick Clean Mode: Best for a quick, surface clean because carpets dry in less than 1 hour.

Tools

*Stair Tool:** 6 inches wide with 2 built-in rows of bristles for cleaning carpeted stairs.
*Upholstery Tool:** 1 row of bristles for effectively cleaning upholstery.
*Crevice Tool:** Great for use around baseboards and hard to reach areas.
*2-in-1 Antimicrobial Tool:** Allows you to choose between two inserts. The rubber nub insert is for unpleasant stain removal and hygienic clean-ups. The bristle insert is for tough scrubbing power.

Before you begin Cleaning

Vacuum carpet and upholstery thoroughly with a Hoover vacuum before use.

Don’t use the carpet cleaner as a traditional vacuum cleaner.

Use your Hoover carpet cleaner only if upholstery fabric is marked with a “W” (for “wet” clean) or “S/W” (for “solvent/dry” or “wet” clean). Don’t clean fabric marked “S” (“solvent/ dry” clean only).

Test for colorfastness in a small, hidden area. Gently rub surface with a dampened white cloth. Wait ten minutes and check for color removal or bleed with a white paper towel.

Move furniture out of area to be cleaned. Place aluminum foil or wax paper under legs of furniture too heavy to move to prevent wood finishes from staining carpet. Pin up furniture skirts and draperies.

Pretreat spots and heavy traffic areas with a Hoover® Cleaning Solution*. See the “Cleaning Solutions” section.

Pretreating:

For best results, pretreat stains with a Hoover spot treatment (see Hoover Cleaning Solution Guide) to help loosen and remove even the most stubborn stains.

NOTE: To prevent staining, use plastic or aluminum foil to protect wood or metal surfaces from possible water spray.

NOTE: To avoid damage to wood floors underneath area rugs or carpet, place waterproof material (ex: plastic) underneath them before cleaning.

Getting started with your Power Scrub Elite™

To fill the Clean Water/Solution Tank

Press down on top latch of clean water tank and pull to remove.
Twist off the clean water cap on the top of the clean water tank. Add warm water to fill line and replace cap. – DO NOT BOIL OR MICROWAVE WATER (Do not fill with water above 140˚ F (60˚ C).
Twist off the solution cap on the top of the clean water tank and pour cleaning solution into tank. Replace cap.
Angle the Solution/Clean Water tank back on the base and click it into place.

Cord

Unwrap the power cord and plug unit in an electrical outlet.
Cord inductions

How to empty

Turn the cleaner off and unplug from electrical outlet.
Release Dirty Water Tank Latch.
Grab the Dirty Water Tank handle and remove from carpet cleaner base.
Place on a flat surface and unlatch Dirty Water Tank lid located below the Quick Spout Pour cap.
Empty tank, rinse and allow to air dry.

IMPORTANT
Be sure to replace the Quick Spout Pour Cap to ensure proper suction.

IMPORTANT
Regarding Dirty Water Tank Lid: For full suction it is important that the Dirty Water Tank Lid is securely in place. If misplaced, poor to no suction will result.

IMPORTANT
For full suction, it is important that the Dirty Water Tank is properly secured before cleaning.

Continue using dry strokes until little water is visible passing through the nozzle.
For best results, Hoover recommends rinsing carpet with water only. This removes residual carpet cleaning solution. Fill Solution Tank with water and repeat. For heavily soiled areas, repeat. Avoid saturating carpet.

NOTE: Empty Dirty Water Tank when the motor sound becomes higher pitched and there is a loss in suction (see “Automatic shut-off”). You will also see the float rise and shut off suction at the same time.

NOTE: It is best to alternate wet and dry strokes as described above. See cleaning modes section to choose best cleaning mode for desired results.

CAUTION
Do not clean over floor electrical outlets. Water will drip from the brushes and underside of the product after use and may puddle. To avoid damage to wood and laminate flooring and to avoid potential slip hazard, after use (a) do not leave the product on wood and laminate surfaces and move to a hard surface and (b) place unit on an absorbent material (such as a towel) to soak up drips.

Using your Power Scrub Elite™

Choose cleaning mode by turning the dial on the base to “Quick Clean” or “Deep Clean” mode.

NOTE: See cleaning mode descriptions.
Ensure Wash/Rinse dial on the Clean Water Tank is turned to “Wash”.
Plug into electrical outlet. Step on the Power Pedal to turn ON.
Step on the Handle Release Pedal to recline the unit for cleaning position.
Squeeze trigger to apply water and cleaning solution. Slowly push forward then backwards while squeezing the trigger.
Release the trigger and slowly push forward. Then slowly pull back toward you without squeezing the trigger. Continue pushing forward and back without squeezing the trigger until little water is visible passing through the nozzle.
For Best Results, Hoover recommends rinsing the carpet with clean water only. This will remove residual carpet cleaning solution from your carpets. To Rinse with clean water only, set the wash/ rinse dial to Rinse and then repeat steps 5 and 6.

Tools and Accessories

How to Attach Hose

Read “Before You Begin Cleaning” instructions. Be sure to check Hoover Cleaning Guide and the cleaning code on your upholstery. Use your cleaner only on upholstery marked “W” or “W/S”.

CAUTION
To reduce risk of injury from moving parts – Unplug before servicing

Attach hose to the unit by opening the Hose Connection Port on the nozzle. Insert hose end, aligning the indicator with the unlock arrows.
Rotate clockwise to lock position.
Hold open the Hose Solution Port door.
Plug the Hose Solution Tube connector firmly into the Hose Solution Port.

If additional cleaning is necessary, wait until the upholstery is completely dry before using the tool again.
Empty Dirty Water Tank when the motor sound becomes higher pitched and there is a loss in suction (see “Automatic Shutoff”).
When finished cleaning, follow “After Cleaning” and “After Using Tool” instructions.

How to Remove Hose

Disconnect Hose Solution Tube from Hose Solution Port by pulling up firmly. Do not pull on tube, this may cause damage. Port door will automatically close.
Rotate hose end counterclockwise from the locked position to the unlocked position and remove by pulling out.
Snap the Hose Port Door on the Nozzle back into place. Make sure to snap it firmly back into place to ensure proper suction.

How to Attach Tools

To ensure maximum performance and to protect your carpet, be sure to place the handle in the upright position while using the hose. Placing the handle in the upright position shuts off the SpinScrub® brushes.
Connect tool to hose by sliding it onto the connector until it securely locks into place.
Using your thumb, push forward and up on the latch to remove tool.

NOTE: Do not place unit at top of stairway to avoid falling down stairs. Place unit at bottom of stairs and work up.

After Using Tools

Drain hose by removing the solution tank and turning the cleaner ON. Aim hose in a downward angle and press trigger to remove excess water.
Turn OFF cleaner. Disconnect the hose and solution tube from cleaner.
Drain solution tube by placing the round end in the sink and placing the tool in sink. Press the trigger to release air and fluid.
Replace hose and tools in the Mesh Tool Storage Bag.

CAUTION
Always turn off appliance before connecting or disconnecting hose.

Cleaning Carpeted Stairs

Read “Before You Begin Cleaning” instructions.
Attach hose and solution tube as instructed.
Place handle in upright position. SpinScrub® brushes will not rotate while handle is in upright position.
Fill Clean Water Tank according to instructions.
Fill Solution Tank with HOOVER solution according to instructions.
Attach tool to end of hose.
Dry hands and plug cleaner into a properly grounded outlet.
Set Wash/Rinse Selection to WASH. Turn cleaner ON.
Pre-spray the carpeted stair by holding the tool about one inch above the carpet and push it forward while pressing the trigger (Fig. C).
Position tool against the riser and slightly press it into carpet pile. Press the trigger and pull the tool slowly over the carpet. Release trigger at end of stroke.
Lift tool, and position it against riser. Pull tool slowly over carpet without pressing trigger (Fig. D).
Overlap strokes by 1/2 inch to help prevent streaking.
It is best to alternate wet and dry strokes as described in steps.

CAUTION
Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. To avoid personal injury or damage, and to prevent the cleaner from falling, always place cleaner at bottom of stairs or on floor. Do not place cleaner on stairs or furniture, as it may result in injury or damage.
9-12. End with more dry strokes to aid in faster drying of carpet.
To avoid saturating carpet, do not use more than 4 wet strokes over any one area. Always end with dry strokes.
If additional cleaning is necessary, wait until the carpet is completely dry before using the tool again.

Maintenance

NOZZLE: HOW TO CLEAN AND STORE

To prevent possible leaking, remove and empty Clean Water Tank and Dirty Water Tank.
With handle in upright position, tilt carpet cleaner back so that handle rests on the floor.
Rotate Nozzle latch to unlock position (Fig. E).

Pull Nozzle forward to remove from carpet cleaner. Be sure the Nozzle does not get caught on Recovery Tank Latch (Fig. F).

IMPORTANT
The nozzle must be in the proper position in order for the Dirty Water Tank to go on properly and for the unit to have proper suction.

BRUSHES: HOW TO CHANGE AND CLEAN

How to Remove

To prevent possible leaking, remove Clean Water Tank and Dirty Water Tank.
With handle in upright position, tilt cleaner back until handle rests on the floor.
Grab brush assembly and pull firmly (Fig. H).

The brushes can be cleaned under running water.

How to Replace

Align black posts on both ends of brush assembly with the slots on the bottom of the cleaner.
Make sure that the hexagonal post (A) also aligns with the hexagonal hole (B). Turn brushes slightly until post fits easily into hole.
Press brush assembly firmly to snap into place.

CAUTION

Storage
Before storing: Empty Clean Water Tank and let air dry. Replace on cleaner. Empty Dirty Water Tank, rinse tank and lid thoroughly with clean water and let air dry.

Allow brushes and underside of carpet cleaner to air dry thoroughly before storing carpet cleaner on a carpeted or wood surface.

Lubrication
The motor is equipped with bearings that contain sufficient lubrication for the life of the motor.

The addition of lubricant could cause damage. Therefore, do not add lubricant to motor bearings.

WARRANTY

LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY (DOMESTIC USE).
WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS

When used and maintained in normal household use and in accordance with the Owner’s Manual, your HOOVER® product is warranted against original defects in material and workmanship for a full two years from date of purchase (the “Warranty Period”). During the Warranty Period, Hoover® will provide labor and parts at no cost to you to correct any such defect in products purchased in the United States, U.S. Military Exchanges and Canada.

WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

This warranty does not cover: use of the product in a commercial operation (such as maid, janitorial and equipment rental services), improper maintenance of the product, damage due to misuse, acts of God, nature, vandalism or other acts beyond the control of Hoover®, owner’s acts or omissions, use outside the country in which the product was initially purchased and resales of the product by the original owner. This warranty does not cover pick up, delivery, transportation or house calls, however, if you mail your product to a Hoover® Sales and Service Center for warranty service, cost of shipping will be paid one way.

This warranty does not apply to products purchased outside the United States, including its territories and possessions, outside a U.S. Military Exchange and outside of Canada. This warranty does not cover products purchased from a party that is not an authorized retailer, dealer, or distributor of Hoover® products.

OTHER IMPORTANT TERMS

This warranty is not transferable and may not be assigned. This Warranty shall be governed and construed under the laws of the state of Ohio. The Warranty Period will not be extended by any replacement or repair performed under this Warranty.

THIS WARRANTY IS THE EXCLUSIVE WARRANTY AND REMEDY PROVIDED BY HOOVER®. ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE DISCLAIMED. Before you begin cleaning with your HOOVER Power Scrub Elite Carpet Cleaner, you should vacuum carpet and upholstery thoroughly with a Hoover vacuum before use, test for colorfastness in a small, hidden area, move furniture out of area to be cleaned, place aluminum foil or wax paper under legs of furniture too heavy to move to prevent wood finishes from staining carpet, pin up furniture skirts and draperies, and pretreat spots and heavy traffic areas with a Hoover® Cleaning Solution.

Can I use the HOOVER Power Scrub Elite Carpet Cleaner as a traditional vacuum cleaner?

No, you should not use the HOOVER Power Scrub Elite Carpet Cleaner as a traditional vacuum cleaner.

Can the Power Scrub clean hard floors and furniture?

We do not recommend using this on hard floors. The HOOVER Power Scrub was designed for carpet cleaning only. However, this product does come with a cleaning hose and variety of tools to clean stairs and furniture!

Is the Power Scrub safe for use on all carpets and rugs?

The Power Scrub is safe to use on most rug types including Nylon, Polyolefin, Polyester, Acrylic (composition of many small area and throw rugs). Always check manufacturer’s label before cleaning for any specific instructions

Why will my Power Scrub Elite not turn on?

If using for the first time and it will not turn on or won’t stay on, you may need to press a bit harder on the switch. The switch may need a bit more force to activate it the first time

Why is it making a high-pitched whirring sound during operation?

If you hear a high-pitched whirring sound, this indicates that your dirty water tank is full and needs to be emptied

What cleaning solution should I use with the Power Scrub?

We recommend using only genuine Hoover solutions for best cleaning results. Hoover has a wide variety of cleaning solutions that pair perfectly with the Power Scrub

What is the difference between model and the power basic delux for $156?

The Power Scrub Elite is our newest carpet cleaner! We took our best selling platform, Power Scrub Deluxe, and made some great improvements! The main improvement is the Quick Clean Mode which allows you to clean your carpet then dries it in 45 minutes. We also added Edge Cleaning Bristles to easily clean the edges of your rooms. The clean water tank capacity is 25% larger than the Power Scrub Deluxe for less fill ups during your clean. The Power Scrub Elite still has the same Wash/Rinse Control and powerful SpinScrub brushes.

Dos this work with removal of dog urine?

This unit is great for dog urine removal. When used with Hoover Expert solution, it will eliminate and deodorize your pet messes. Can this be used on hardwood floors?

I don’t believe it is designed for hardwood floors. I would personally just use a mop with some murphy’s oil soap on my hardwood floors. The title of the machine is a carpet cleaner.

Does this hoover work on longer pile carpet…not quite shag, but it’s long.

What size is the motor?

Unit has a 10 amp motor.

Do most carpet cleaners also dry?

No but this one doesn’t leave it wet just damp and dries quickly.

Does this machine heat the water?

No but it works very well if you simply use hot tap water. I have my water heater set at 102, and I am very pleased with how well this machine cleans my carpet.

Does this carpet cleaner ship already assemble or do I have to assemble it?

Some assembly is required, don’t let that be the decision maker. It’s a powerful cleaner
