SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The following precautions must always be taken in consideration before using the “Magnani – Rice cooker 1.5 l”, hereinafter referred to as the ‘device’.

WARNING!
Some of this machine’s parts and accessories can become hot. Do not touch these parts to avoid burning yourself.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Read the instructions for use carefully and keep them safe. If you give this device to other people, please also pass on this manual.
  • Only use this device in accordance with the instructions in this user manual.
  • This device can be used by children aged 8 and over and people with restricted physical, sensory or mental capacity or a lack of experience and expertise, provided they are under supervision or have been given instructions about safely using the device and are aware of the potential hazards. Children must not play with the device. Cleaning and maintenance must not be done by children unless they are over the age of 8 and under supervision.
  • This device is intended for domestic or similar use, not for professional use.

WARNING! Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. This may become dangerous playing material for children. Risk of suffocation!

ELECTRICITY AND HEAT

  • Prior to use, check that the mains voltage is the same as the mains voltage stated on the name plate of the device.
  • Make sure your hands are dry before touching the device, power cord or plug.
  • Plug the power plug into an earthed electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
  • WARNING! Never cover the power plug or cable with cloths, curtains or any other material in order to prevent overheating and potential fire hazards.
  • Make sure that the device and power cable do not come into contact with heat sources, like a hot hob or naked flame.
  • The device must be able to dispel its heat in order to prevent the risk of fire. So make sure the device has sufficient free space around it (at least 10 cm from all sides) and do not place the device in contact with combustible materials and/or on or near combustible materials.
  • WARNING! The device must not be covered, in order to prevent overheating and potential fire hazards.
  • Check the power cord regularly for damage.
  • Never use the device if the power cord shows signs of damage, if the device has fallen on the ground or shows any other signs of damage.
  • Switch OFF the device and remove the power plug if you discover any faults during use, find any signs of damage, are not using the device or are cleaning it.
  • Make sure the power cord cannot be trodden on or pinched.
  • Do not allow the power cord to hang over sharp edges and keep it away from hot objects and naked flames.
  • When plugging in the power plug, make sure people cannot accidentally pull it out or trip over it.
  • Remove the power plug from the power socket during lightning storms or if unused for long periods of time.
  • When removing the plug from the power socket, pull the plug itself, not the cable.
  • Do not operate the device using an external time switch or a separate remote control system.
  • Use a 10 amp cable if an extension cable is required. Cables with a lower amp rating may burn out.
  • When using an extension cable, make sure it is completely extended.
  • WARNING! To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, protect the device from dripping or splashing water and keep away from objects filled with liquids, such as vases. Such objects should not be placed on or near the device.

USE

  • Do not use the device in the vicinity of flammable materials.
  • Do not leave the device unattended when it is in use.
  • Always ensure the device is properly assembled before use.
  • Maintain a clearance of at least 20 cm around the device. This prevents damage from rising steam and heat.
  • The removable cooking bowl must be placed in the device when used.
  • Never switch on the device without the removable cooking bowl placed inside the device.
  • Do not put rice and/or pour water directly into the stainless-steel part of the device.
  • Only the removable cooking bowl is designed to contain rice and water.
  • Do not use the removable cooking bowl in a conventional oven.
  • Do not place the removable cooking bowl onto a hot gas or electric burner.
  • Only use the removable cooking bowl supplied with the device. Do not use any other bowl.
  • Do not use a damaged or cracked removable cooking bowl.
  • Never operate the device without any rice or water in the removable cooking bowl.
  • Ensure that the rice and water to be cooked is put in the removable cooking bowl before switching on the device.
  • Do not overfill the removable cooking bowl, fill the removable cooking bowl maximum up to the mark (8/1.5 l)
  • If using plastic utensils, do not leave them inside the device when it is hot!
  • The glass lid has been specially treated to make it stronger, more durable and safer than ordinary glass. However, it is not unbreakable. Please use caution when handling the glass lid.
  • Always have the glass lid placed correctly into position on the device during operation of the device, unless the recipe states that it should be removed.
  • Do not move the device during cooking.
  • Do not place the removable cooking bowl into cold water or freezer when it is hot.
  • When in use and when stored, do not place anything other than the lid on top of the assembled device.
  • The glass lid is extremely hot, always use the handle when removing the lid.
  • Beware of scalding as a result of escaping steam when removing the glass lid. Carefully lift the lid angled away from yourself.
  • The device contains hot rice and water during or immediately after cooking.
  • Do not pre-heat or heat the device when empty.
  • The surfaces of the device become hot during use. DO NOT TOUCH!
  • Wear oven gloves when handling the device during and immediately after use and use utensils when checking food.
  • Never move the device when it is switched ON or still warm. First switch OFF the device and only move it when it has cooled down.
  • Only use tools featuring a handle that is well insulated against heat.
  • Do not use sharp objects in the removable cooking bowl. This damage the non-stick coating.
  • Clean the device thoroughly after use (see “cleaning and maintenance”).
  • It is advisable to place a heat-resistant covering between the table or sink counter and the device, to prevent the heat leaving marks on your table or worktop.
  • Avoid locations subject to vibrations, cold or humidity.
  • Do not expose the device to direct sunlight, heat sources, excessive humidity or corrosive environments.
  • Do not place the device under any mechanical stress.
  • Improper use of the device could damage the product.
  • Please handle the device carefully. Impacts or falls, even from a low height, can damage the device.
  • Do not open the casing as this may result in electric shock.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the device or modify it in any manner.
  • The device must be serviced if it has been damaged in any way, i.e. the power supply cord/plug is damaged; liquid has been spilled; objects have fallen into it; it has been exposed to rain or moisture; it has been dropped or does not operate properly.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning solvents to clean the device.
  • Do not use foreign objects to clean the device.
  • This device is intended for domestic purposes only, not for professional use.
  • Never immerse the device, cable and power plug in water or any kind of fluid.
  • Do not pick up the device if it has fallen into water or any kind of fluid. Remove the plug from the power socket immediately. Do not use the device again.
  • Place the device on a flat and stable surface, in a place where it cannot fall over.
  • Parts of the device can become hot. Do not touch these parts to avoid burning yourself.
  • Only hold the device by its plastic handles. The metal inner bowl can become very hot!

INSTALLING AND USING THE DEVICE

Open the packaging carefully before taking out the device. Make sure the device is complete and undamaged. If any components are missing or damaged, contact the vendor and do not use the product. Retain the packaging or recycle it in accordance with local regulations.

PARTS & FEATURES DEVICE

FIRST USE

  • Remove the device and accessories from the box. Remove any stickers, protective film or plastic from the device.
  • Before you use the device for the first time, wipe all the removable parts with a damp cloth.
  • Thoroughly dry the base, removable cooking bowl and glass lid.
  • Never use aggressive or abrasive cleaning materials, a scouring sponge or steel wool; this damages the device, the interior and the removable cooking bowl.
  • Place the device on a flat, stable surface, in a place where it cannot fall over.
  • Make sure the power switch is off “0”
  • Connect the power cord to the device before connecting the device to the mains power.
  • Connect the device to the mains power.

POWER ON/OFF

  • When the device is connected to the mains power, make sure the power switch is in “1” position.
    The “WARM” light indicator in the front of the device will light up, indicating its switched ON.

  • To switch off the device, make sure the power switch is in “0” position, then remove the power plug from the mains power.

COOKING

  • Before each use, make sure the outside of the cooking bowl I clean and dry, and that the heat sensor on the middle on the inside of the device is clean, dry and cool.
  • Place the device on a flat, stable surface, in a place where it cannot fall over.
  • There are different opinions whether rice should be washed before cooking or not. People who prefer to wash the rice, argue that it washes away non sticky grains and starch. Also washed rice is drier and fluffier. People who prefer not to wash, state that valuable vitamins and minerals are lost.
  • When washing the rice before cooking; Clean the rice in another bowl or container to prevent damage, scratches and deformation of the removable cooking bowl.
  • Remove the glass lid and take out the removable cooking bowl before filling it with rice and water.
  • At the inside of the removable cooking bowl there are markings. On the right side “CUP 2 – 4 – 6 – 8” for the number of cups. On the left side “0.4 – 0.8 – 1.2 l – 1.5” for the volume of water.

  • The preferred ratio: 1 to 1.2 measure cups of water to 1 measure cup of rice. However, this may differ because each type of rice has a different absorption capacity of water. Read the instructions on the rice packaging.
  • Before placing the removable cooking bowl back in the device make sure that the rice is leveled horizontally in the bowl.
  • Place the removable cooking bowl filled with water and rice back into the device, by placing it straight (not tilted) on the heating plate. Put the glass lid on the device.
  • Avoid impacts on the inside of the device (sides, bottom and heating plate) and keep the inside of the device free from water droplets, dust, rice grains or other foreign materials, as this can affect the performance of the device. In the worst case, the heating plate can fail.
  • Never put water or any other liquid into the device. 
  • Make sure the device is powered on and the “WARM” light indicator is lighted up. Pre-heating of the device is not necessary!
  • Press down the switch at the front of the device to start the cooking of the rice, the “COOK” light indicator on the front of the device will light up.
  • The switch will stay down (cook function) only when the removable cooking bowl is placed correctly in the device, this is a safety feature.
  • When the rice is properly cooked (± 20 min, depending the volume to cook), the switch at the front of the device will automatically release and the “WARM” light indicator will light up again (keep warm function). Leave the glass lid on the device for ±10 minutes, so that the rice is well cooked. Fluff the rice with the spoon.
  • Use the handle to remove the glass lid from the device and place it on a stable, horizontal, flat and heat-resistant surface.

KEEP WARM

  • When the “WARM” indicator light is on, the device is in ‘keep warm’ function.
  • The temperature of the rice in the device will automatically be kept within the range of 60 °C – 80 °C
  • When the temperature is in the range of 60 °C – 80 °C, the indicator light will go off. Below 60 °C the indicator light will light up that the device is warming up to 60 °C – 80 °C.
  • If you want to switch off the keep warm function, place the power switch is in “0” position, then remove the power plug from the mains power.
  • Use the handle to remove the glass lid from the device and place it on a stable, horizontal, flat and heat-resistant surface.
  • Caution: Prevent burns. Do not touch the glass lid or removable bowl; it is very hot. When removing, use a heatproof stand or coaster and kitchen gloves for extra support.
  • Caution: Risk of scalding as a result of escaping steam when removing the glass lid. Carefully lift the lid angled away from yourself.
  • Do not use metal items to remove rice from the removable cooking. This prevents the non-stick coating from being damaged. Use the supplied spoon to remove the rice from the removable cooking bowl.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Clean the device after each use.
  • Switch OFF the device, remove the plug from the mains power and allow the device to cool down fully (± 30 minutes).
  • Never immerse the device in water or any other liquid.
  • Clean the casing and insides with a damp cloth.
  • Clean the removable cooking bowl & glass lid in warm water and washing-up liquid.
  • Never use aggressive or abrasive cleaning materials, a scouring sponge or steel wool; these damages the device, and will scratch and damage the non-stick materials.
  • Thoroughly dry the base, removable cooking bowl and glass lid.
  • Re-assemble the device in such a way that the removable cooking bowl and glass lid are back in place on the device.
  • Do not store any metal accessories inside the removable cooking bowl, as these could damage the non-stick coating.
  • Do not clean the removable cooking bowl and glass lid in the dishwasher. For optimum service life of the non-stick layers and in order to avoid possible discoloration of the materials, we recommend hand washing these parts in warm soapy water.
  • If the non-stick coating has been damaged by abrasion with the accessories, do not wash in a dishwasher because this will only exacerbate the problem.
  • Store the device in a dry place.

STORAGE & TRANSPORTATION

  • When storing the device, it should first be cleaned in accordance with this user manual. The device should be stored in its original packaging.
  • Always store the device in a dry and well-ventilated room and beyond the reach of children.
  • Protect the device against vibrations and shocks during transport.
