IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- The cast iron construction provides this product durability and a wide range of uses for both preparing and cooking.
- Before using your new cast iron cookware, wash it in warm water with mild liquid soap. The cookware should be rinsed and dried immediately.
- Your cast iron cookware is safe for use in the oven or on a gas, electric, ceramic or induction stovetop. Although it is safe for this cookware to be used on these stovetops, it is strongly suggested that you refer to your appliance manual to ensure the stovetop is compatible with cast iron cookware prior to use. Also, be sure to always lift the cast iron cookware when moving to avoid scratching your stovetop and damaging your cookware.
- Note that the cast handles on the cookware will become hot during stovetop or oven use. Oven mitts or hot pads should be used when moving.
- Always use plastic, wood or silicone utensils when stirring. Metal utensils will scratch the surface.
- Do not use mixers or hand-held blenders on any cookware as this may cause permanent damage to the surface.
- Do not cut food directly on the surface of the cookware.
- Never use your cast iron cookware in the microwave.
- Oven safe up to 500 °F (260 °C).
- When placing the hot cookware on a table or countertop, use a trivet to protect the surface from heat damage.
BEFORE FIRST USE AND AFTER EACH USE
- Hand wash in warm water and towel dry immediately. Do not soak cast iron. Do not air dry.
- After drying, rub all surfaces of your cast iron cookware with a light coat of cooking oil using a cloth. Only a very thin coat of oil is required. Too much oil will cause stickiness.
RE-SEASONING YOUR COOKWARE
- Thoroughly hand wash in warm, soapy water. Rinse and towel dry immediately.
- Coat all surfaces of cast iron cookware with a thin layer of cooking oil or melted shortening using a cloth.
- Place the item in a preheated oven at 300 °F (148 °C) for one hour.
- Place a baking pan or aluminum foil on lower rack to catch drippings.
- After one hour, turn off the oven and allow cookware to cool gradually
IN CASE OF RUSTING
- Use a scouring pad to remove and wash away all rust.
- Towel dry immediately after hand washing.
- Follow the re-seasoning instruction steps above.
CLEANING AND CARING FOR YOUR COOKWARE
- Place the cookware on a stovetop burner no larger than the bottom of the pan.
- Cook over low to medium heat to avoid damage to the cookware and eliminate food from sticking.
- Always use a small amount of cooking oil for each use. Never heat the cookware when it is empty.
- Remove acidic foods from your cast iron cookware immediately after cooking and wash promptly to prevent damage to the seasoning.
- Do not store foods in cast iron, as this can break down the seasoning.
- Never leave cast iron submerged in water.
- Never put cold water on hot cast iron cookware as this can cause the cast iron to warp or crack.
- Do not wash the cast iron cookware in the dishwasher.
- If the cookware is scratched and the pre-seasoned layer is removed, it must be re-seasoned.
