  6. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow cooling before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the appliance.
  7. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the manufacturer for examination, repair, or electrical or mechanical adjustment. All servicing, other than cleaning, should be performed by an authorized service representative. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
GROUNDED PLUG
To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug (2 blades and 1 pin). If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet contact a qualified electrician.  Do not modify the plugin any way or use an adaptor.

BEFORE FIRST USE

  1. Read all instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.
  2. Remove all packaging.
  3. Ensure that the filter is installed in the kettle. If not, see the Installing the Filter section on page 5 for directions.
  4.  Plug the Power Base into a 120V AC wall outlet.
  5. Fill the Kettle with 1 liter (4 cups) of cold tap water, place on the Power Base and press the On/Off Switch to the On position and bring to a boil.
  6. Once the water has boiled, open the cover and add 500 ml (2 cups) of white vinegar. Let stand for at least 1 hour or overnight. Discard water and vinegar solution.
  7. Fill the kettle to the MAX fill line with cold tap water. Bring to a boil and discard. Repeat.
  8. The kettle is now ready to use.

HOW TO USE

  1. Open the Lid by pressing the button at the top of the handle and fill with a minimum of 500 ml (2 cups) of water.

  2. DO NOT attempt to fill the Kettle while it is plugged into the wall outlet.
DO NOT use for other than boiling water. Other liquids will contaminate the interior of the kettle.
DO NOT fill past the MAX level indicated on the Water Level Window. Overfilling may cause water to spit out when boiling.

  3. Close the Lid.

  4. Place the Kettle on the Base on a flat, level, dry, heat resistant surface. Ensure that it is correctly engaged on the Base.

  5. Plug into a 120V AC wall outlet.
NOTE: Never plug kettle into an electrical outlet when the kettle is empty.

  6. Direct kettle spout away from cabinets, walls, etc. to prevent possible steam damage.

  7. Depress the clear On/Off Switch below the handle and the red indicator light will light up to indicate that the kettle is in the boil cycle.
Once the water has boiled, the On/Off Switch will move to the OFF  position and the light will go out.
    IMPORTANT:
    a) The kettle shuts off automatically after the boiling cycle is complete.
    b) If the kettle is removed from the base before the boiling cycle is complete the switch will move to the OFF position.
    c) To turn the kettle off before the boiling cycle is complete, lift the
On/Off Switch to the OFF position.

  8. The Lid should not be opened when the Kettle is hot.

  9. If you want to use the Kettle again, allow the thermal safety switch to cool down for 15 to 20 seconds then depress the On/Off Switch to the ON position. If the On/Off  Switch does not remain in the ON position, the water is hot enough to use without reheating.

  10. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet before lifting the Kettle from Power Base.

  11. Only grip the Kettle by the Handle as all other surfaces will be hot.

  12. Return the Kettle to the Base or a heat-resistant surface after use.

  13. IMPORTANT: If the Kettle is accidentally switched on when empty, the thermostat will automatically cycle on and off to prevent the Kettle from overheating. If this situation occurs, lift the On/Off switch to the OFF (‘O’) position and unplug the Kettle immediately. Let the Kettle cool before refilling. It is recommended that the Power  Cord be disconnected from the wall outlet when not in use.

  14. DO NOT attempt to connect any other appliance to the Power Base or tamper with the connector in any way.

FILTER

Removing the Filter:
Locate the tab inside the spout on the top edge of the Filter. Press the Filter Tab down to release the top edge of the Filter. Grasp the top edge of the Filter on the inside of the kettle and lift the Filter up to release the Filter Hook from the bottom edge of the spout.

Installing the Filter:
Hold the Filter by the top edge and insert the Filter Hook on the bottom edge of the spout on the inside of the kettle. Press the Tab against the top edge of the spout until you hear a click.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove or install the Filter when the Kettle is hot.

CARE AND CLEANING

1. All servicing, other than cleaning, should be performed by an authorized service representative. See Warranty section.
2. Unplug Kettle from the wall outlet. Empty the kettle and allow it to cool before cleaning.
1. Exterior
– Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior.
– DO NOT use abrasive cleaners. Dry exterior thoroughly before use.
– DO NOT immerse kettle or power base in water or other liquid.
2. Descaling
Under normal use, scale build-up will form on the inside of the Kettle and will coat the stainless steel plate. Scale, which has accumulated inside the Kettle must be removed.
1. Boil equal parts of white vinegar and water. (500 ml / 2 cups of each is recommended)
2. Once the water has boiled, allow the mixture to stand for several hours or overnight.
3. Empty out the mixture and fill the Kettle to the MAX level with fresh water.
4. Bring water to a boil and discard.
5. For heavier scale build-up, use pure vinegar, boil, then let stand overnight.
6. Empty out the vinegar and fill the Kettle to the MAX level with fresh water.
7. Bring water to a boil and discard.
8. For the heaviest scale build-up use a scale/lime remover and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
NOTE:
1. Scale build-up can be reduced by pouring out water after Kettle uses then refilling the Kettle when required.
2. The descaling process should be repeated periodically.
A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
