Introduction

ABOUT THE CAMERA

The camera is a digital scouting camera, it can be triggered by any movement of game in a location, detected by a highly sensitive Passive Infra-Red (PIR) motion sensor, and then take high-quality pictures (up to 16MP still photos), or video clips. The camera consumes very little power (less than 0.15mA) in a standby (surveillance) state. This means it can deliver up to five months of standby operation time when the device is powered by four AA alkaline batteries. Once motion in the monitored area is detected, the digital camera unit will be triggered at once (approx. 0.4 seconds) and then automatically take photos or videos according to previously programmed settings. The camera is equipped with built-in infrared LEDs that function as a flash, so that it delivers clear photos or videos (in black & white) even in the dark, and it can take color photos or videos under sufficient daylight. The camera is designed for outdoor use and is resistant against water and snow.

Installing the Batteries and SD Card

Before using your camera, you need to install a set of batteries and insert an SD card. There are some important notes about both batteries and SD card you should be aware of, so please take the time to read the following directions and cautions:

LOADING BATTERIES

After opening the cover of the battery slot, you will see that the camera has four battery slots. A full set of four batteries must be installed for the camera to operate. Please ensure that you have inserted batteries in the correct orientation.

We recommend using four new alkaline AA batteries. In SETUP mode when battery power level gets low, the message “Low Battery” will show on the screen, please replace the batteries.

INSERTING THE SD CARD

Note:
Insert the SD card (with the camera’s power switch in the OFF position) before beginning to operate the camera. Don’t insert or  remove the SD card when the power switch is in the ON position.
The camera uses a standard SD memory card to save photos (in .jpg format) and/or videos (in .avi format). SD cards up to a maximum 32GB capacity are supported.

Using the Camera

Note:
We recommend using a good quality name brand SD card with C6 (or higher) speed.
Insert the SD card (with the camera’s power switch in the OFF position) before beginning to operate the camera. Don’t insert or remove the SD card when the power switch is in the ON position.
The camera uses a standard SD memory card to save photos (in .jpg format) and/or videos (in .avi format). SD cards up to a maximum 32GB capacity are supported.

The OFF, ON, and SETUP Modes

The camera has three basic operational modes:

• OFF mode: Power switch in the OFF position.
• ON mode: Power switch in the ON position (LCD screen is off.)
• SETUP mode: Power switch in the SETUP position (LCD screen is on).

OFF MODE

The OFF mode is the “safe” mode when any actions must be taken, e.g., replacing the SD card or batteries, or transporting the device. You will also use OFF mode (ON or SETUP is available) if you connect the camera to a computer’s USB port later to download your photos/videos. And of course, when you are storing or not using the camera, you will switch it to OFF. Please note that in OFF mode the camera consumes little power. It’s a good idea to take the batteries out of the battery compartment if the camera will not be used for an extended period time.

ON MODE

After installing the batteries and SD card, you can switch on the camera. When the power switch is moved to the left position, the camera will enter into ON (Live) mode. Once in the ON mode, no manual controls are needed or possible (the control keys have no effect). The camera will take photos or videos automatically as it is programmed when the PIR sensor detects movement in range.

Note:
When the power switch is set to ON position, the camera requires 30-60 seconds for PIR Sensor to initialize.

SETUP MODE

In the SETUP mode, you can check and change the settings of the camera with the help of its built-in LCD. These settings, found in the menu by pressing the Menu key, let you change the photo or video resolution, switch the time imprint on, etc.
Moving the power switch to the SETUP position will turn on the LCD display, and you will see an information screen that shows the time and date, battery level, camera or video mode, etc. The screen dims after 2 minutes of no operation.

Shortcut Keys/Functions
As mentioned earlier in “At a Glance”, the keys have secondary, “shortcut” functions when the camera is switched to SETUP mode:

• Press the OK key to quickly set the camera to shoot video clips.
• Press the Right key to quickly set the camera to take still photos.

PLAYBACK ON THE CAMERA SCREEN

Once you have some photos or videos in the SD card, you can directly playback them on the screen. In the SETUP mode, press the Play key to playback/stop playing back the photo or video, press the Left key to the previous photo or video, and press Right key to the next one. Press the OK key play/pause video playing and press the Menu key to stop video playing. There are more instructions during the playback reviewing, see the following tips:

Tips 2:
Press the MENU key to manage the stored photos/videos during scrolling photos or videos. You can Delete current file/Delete all files/Activate slide show/Write protect the photos and videos you want. Press the MENU key again to go back.

Notes:

• If the current file or all files are set Write protect, the file(s) cannot be deleted. If you want to delete the file(s), unlock the file(s) or format the SD card.
• After deleting a picture or a video file, the deleted files can’t be restored! It is also possible to delete all files from the card by using the Format parameter.

Advanced Settings

The trail camera comes with preset manufacturer settings. You can change the settings to meet your requirements. Please make sure that the camera is in the SETUP mode. Once the camera screen is on, press the Menu key to enter/exit the menu. Press the Left/Right key to move the marker and the OK key to enter setting. Press the Left/Right key to change the setting, Menu key to go back, and the OK key to confirm the change. Always remember to press the OK to save the change.

Mounting and Positioning the Camera

MOUNTING

After you’ve set up the camera’s parameters to your personal preferences, you’re ready to take it outside and slide the power switch to “ON”. When setting up the camera for scouting game or other outdoor applications, you must be sure to mount it in place correctly and securely. We recommend mounting the camera on a sturdy tree with a diameter of about 6 in. (15cm). To get the optimal picture quality, the tree should be about 16-17 ft. (5 meters) away from the place to be monitored, with the camera placed at the height of 2.5*3.5 ft. (0.75-1 m). Also, keep in mind that you will get the best results at night when the subject is within the ideal flash range, no farther than 59 ft. (18m) and no closer than 10 ft. (3 m) from the camera.

There are two ways to mount the camera: using the provided adjustable web belt, or the tripod socket.

Using the adjustable strap: Push one end of the strap through the two brackets on the back of the camera. Thread the end of the strap through the buckle. Fasten the strap securely around the tree trunk by pulling the end of the strap firmly, so there is no slack left.
Using the tripod socket: The camera is equipped with a socket at the bottom end to enable mounting on a tripod or other mounting accessories with a standard UNC 1/4-20 thread screw.

SENSING ANGLE AND DISTANCE TEST

To test whether the camera can effectively monitor the area you choose, this test is recommended to check the sensing angle and monitoring the distance of the camera. To perform the test:

• Switch the camera to the SETUP mode.
• Make movements in front of the camera at several positions within the area where you expect the game or subjects to be. Try different distances and angles from the camera.
• If the motion indicator LED light (BLUE light) blinks, it indicates that position can be sensed and the camera works.

The results of your testing will help you find the best placement when mounting and aiming the camera. The height away from the ground for placing the device should vary with the animal size appropriately. In general, 3 to 6 feet is preferred.
You can avoid potential false triggers due to temperature and motion disturbances in front of the camera by not aiming it at a heat source or nearby tree branches or brush (especially on windy days).

Note:
DO NOT install the camera behind the glass window as that is not possible to sense any motion.

SWITCHING ON THE CAMERA

Once you switch to the ON mode, the motion indicator LED (red) will blink for about 15 seconds. After it stops blinking, the PIR is active, and any motion that is detected by it will trigger the capture of photos or videos as programmed in the SETUP Menu. Please note, the PIR is strongly sensitive to ambient temperature. The greater the temperature difference between the environment and your subject, the farther the possible sensing distance. The average sensing distance is about 45 ft.

Review Photos or Videos

The camera stores photos and videos in the folder \DCIM\100MEDIA in the SD card. Photos are saved with file names like DSCF0001.JPG and videos like DSCF0001.AVI. The AVI video files can be played back on most popular media players, such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, VLC, etc. There are several different ways this can be done.
You can directly review the photos or videos on the camera screen.
Or in the OFF mode, use the provided USB cable to download the files to a computer (with Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 /10, mac 10.2 operating systems).
Or put the SD card to an SD card reader (user supplied), plug in a computer, and browse the files on the computer without downloading.

Connect Camera to TV

The camera can be connected to a TV using the AV port.

1. Turn on the TV, connect the camera to TV using an AV data cable
2. Turn on the camera and switch to SETUP mode
3. After connecting, the camera enters playback mode and the LCD turns off. You can review photos and reviews the camera captured on TV.

AV data cable is not included in the package.

Specifications

Frequently Asked Questions

Camera won’t retain settings.

Make sure that you have been saving the changes to any parameter settings that you made while in SETUP mode by pressing the “OK” key after changing the setting. If you don’t save your new setting after changing it, the camera will continue to use the original default setting for that parameter.

SD card is hard to install.

Please try the following step to install the memory card:

1. Insert the SD card into the card slot with its label side upwards. A “click” sound indicates that the card is installed successfully. If the SD card is not installed correctly, the device will not display an SD card icon on the LCD in SETUP mode.
2. To take out the SD card, gently push in the card and then it will pop out of the slot. The card is released from the slot and ready to be removed when you hear the click.
3. Be sure the camera’s power is switched OFF before inserting or removing SD cards or batteries.

SAFETY AND WARRANTY

Important Safety Instructions

• This camera is a precision electronic device. Do not attempt to service this camera yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous electrical charge along with other risks.
• The camera is designed to be weather resistant. Never attempt to immerse the unit in water or any other liquid. This will damage the unit and void the warranty.
• Do not expose the camera to the outdoors for a long time. We recommend installing the camera in places with eaves.
• Make sure the camera is locked securely with the lock buckle when installing it outdoors.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard, or rechargeable batteries.
• Use a soft lens cloth for cleaning lens. Avoid touching lens with fingers.
• Remove dirt or stains with a soft cloth dampened with water or neutral detergent.
• Keep your camera in a dry and cool dust-free environment or container when it is NOT used.
• Remove batteries when the camera is NOT in use for an extended period of time.
• Avoid dropping your camera on to a hard surface.
• Do not disassemble your camera.
• Do not access the camera’s internal components compartment for unauthorized service, as this could cause serious damage to the unit and WILL void the warranty.
