  1. What is Arduino®
Arduino® is an open-source prototyping platform based in easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino® boards are able to read inputs – light-on sensor, a finger on a button or a Twitter message – and turn it into an output – activating of a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so, you use the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino® software IDE (based on Processing).
Surf to www.arduino.cc and www.arduino.org for more information.

  2. Overview
The VMA340 is a plug-and-play heart rate sensor for Arduino® and Arduino® compatibles. It can be used by anyone who wants to incorporate live heart rate data into their projects.
    diameter                           16 mm
    overall thickness..             3 mm
    working voltage                3-5 V
    working current              . 4 mA at 5 V
    cable length                      18 cm
connections                      GND, VCC, analog signal out

  3. Getting Started
    6.1 Hardware
Connect the VMA340 to your computer board VMA100.

GND GND on VMA100
VCC 5 V
S (signal) A0 (any analogue input)

6.2 Software
Download the PulseSensorPlayground-master.zip example file from www.velleman.eu.
Start the Arduino® IDE and include this file into the IDE.

Once the sample file is included, select File  Examples, and scroll down to Pulsesensor Playground. Some samples will appear. Select one of them (we tried Getting BPM to Monitor).
Compile an upload the example code.
Attach the VMA340 to a finger with some tape.

Open the serial plotter and you should have a similar result.

For optimal results, the threshold should be adjusted in the code. This threshold is the sensitivity.
We advise to increase or decrease this value in steps of 10-15. The threshold value can be between 0 and 1024.
