GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS

• This appliance is not intended for use by children or by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons, in order to avoid a hazard.
• Do not use to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
• During charging, batteries must be placed in a well-ventilated area.
• After charging, disconnect the battery charger from the supply mains. Then remove the chassis connection and then the battery connection.
• The battery terminal not connected to the chassis has to be connected first. The other connection is to be made to the chassis, remote from the battery and fuel line. The battery charger is then to be connected to the supply mains.
• The battery charger is designed to charge a single 12 volt automotive lead acid battery in the capacity range of between 15-80 amp hours.
• The charger must work on AC 230-240V Voltage.
• Do not allow the red(+) and black clip(-) to touch. This could cause the charger to short circuit.
• Always store the charger in a safe, dry location.
• Examine the battery charger regularly for damage, especially the cord, plug and enclosure. If the battery charger is damaged, it must not be used until it has been repaired.
• Caution: Not suitable to be used by children.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Please read these instructions carefully before use.

This battery charger is designed to charge 12 volt lead acid batteries. This charger is simple to use and operate and an easy solution to charge your flat battery in your car, boat or motorcycle. Built-in internal protections such as the thermal overload switch, cuts off the current in an event of a short circuit overload or reversed polarity connection to the battery. This makes this unit safe to use as well as the addition of double insulation for added safety.

Please ensure that you read all important safety information and operating instructions before using this charger.

LED METER

The visual display meter has 6 visible LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that illuminate to register the connected, charging and charged status of your battery.

CHARGING 12 VOLT BATTERIES

Note: the output leads are fitted with colored insulated clips for easy identification of polarity – RED(+) for POSITIVE and BLACK(-) for NEGATIVE

1. Ensure the power point is switched OFF before connecting or disconnecting the charger to a battery.

2. If possible, remove the battery from the vehicle. If not, ensure that the battery leads are disconnected to protect the electronic systems within the vehicle.

3. Remove the battery filler caps and check the liquid in the cells, topping up with distilled water if required to ensure the liquid is at least 6mm above the top of the plates. Note that the filler caps should not be replaced until the charging process has been completed. This will aid in the dispersion of battery gasses during the charging process.

4. Ensure the polarity is correct and connect the clips to the battery terminals assuring there is a firm connection. Once connected if the fault indicator light
   up to red. Please check the below:

5. Polarity check – ensure the positive (RED) clip is connected to the
   positive (+) battery terminal

6. Check the contact between the terminals and the clips to ensure sufficient contact is made

7. Note that your battery may be completely flat or have damaged cells meaning no charge can be applied

8. Once the battery charger is plugged into a regular 240V household power point, the power indicator will turn on the green light.

9. Once the battery capacity indicator light is illuminated, the battery is charged.

CHARGING TIME

1. If the battery is free from issues it should be sufficiently charged to start a vehicle once the 100% LED indicator is illuminated
2. For the battery with different capacities,different brands and in different using stage, the charging time will vary. In general, after charging 12-15 hours, the battery can be used normally.
3. Motorcycle and smaller capacity batteries may need a shorter time frame of around 4-6 hours to restore a battery to peak condition.

OVERLOAD

Prolonged charging of deep discharged batteries or attempting to charge a battery larger than 80 amp hours can cause the charger to overheat. If this occurs, the chargers thermal overload switch will activate. This cycling will not damage either the charger or the battery, however if this situation occurs for more than 2 hours, please switch off the charger and disconnect from the battery and wall outlet. It is advisable if this occurs whilst charging a battery less than 80 amp hours, to have your battery checked by an automotive electrician.

LOW MAINTENANCE BATTERIES

It is advisable to not overcharge a low maintenance battery.
Low maintenance batteries are easily recognizable as they do not have removable filler caps.
Do not attempt to recharge a sealed lead acid battery, commonly found in UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) devices, mobility scooters, alarm systems etc. This charger is not designed for these types of batteries

SAFETY INFORMATION

WARNING – Working in the vicinity of a lead acid battery is dangerous due to the emission of explosive gases. A spark, cigarette or naked flame such as lighter or matches can ignite these explosive gases. Care should always be taken.

• Keep all naked flames and potential sparks away from the battery at all times
• Never smoke or light a cigarette near a battery
• Extreme care is required when handling metal objects and tools such as jewellery, rings or watches. When a metal object touches a battery terminal, it may cause sparks or serious heat burns to the user or wearer of the object and those around them
• Never place tools on or around the battery in case they move and come into contact with the top of the battery
• It is advisable to always wear protective eye glasses when testing or working around a lead acid battery
• Ensure the area is ventilated when working on a battery and never test or charge a battery in a confined area with limited ventilation
• Ensure the charger is not exposed to water when in use or plugged in
• The appliance is not to be used by children or person with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction

Charging steps:

• Release or remove the battery stoppers (if fitted) from the battery.
• Check the acid level in the battery. If necessary, top up the battery with distilled water (if possible). Important! Battery acid is aggressive. Rinse off any acid splashes thoroughly with lots of water and seek medical advice if necessary.
• The battery terminal not connected to the chassis has to be connected first. The other connection is to be made to the chassis, remote from the battery and fuel line. The battery charger is then to be connected to the supply mains.
• First connect the red charging cable (+) to the positive pole of the battery.
• Then connect the black charging cable (-) to the bodywork of the vehicle away from the battery and the petrol pipe.
• Warning! Under normal circumstances the negative battery pole is connected to the bodywork and you proceed. In exceptional cases it is possible that the positive battery pole is connected to the bodywork (positive earthing). In this case connect the black charging cable (-) to the negative pole on the battery. Then connect the red charging cable (+) at a point away from the battery and the petrol pipe. After charging, switch off the mains power supply. Remove the negative clamp first then the positive last.

Lead acid batteries contain Sulphuric Acid. If acid contacts the skin or clothing, flush immediately with ample running water.

IN CASE OF ACCIDENTAL EYE CONTACT WITH BATTERY ACID, FLUSH EYES FOR A MINIMAL 5 MINUTES WITH CLEAN WATER. EYES SHOULD BE SUBMERGED UNDER WATER AND OPENED TO FLUSH EFFECTIVELY. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO IMMEDIATELY SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AND DO NOT USE OR DROPS OR ANY OTHER MEDICATION UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY A DOCTOR.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• The battery charger is designed to charge 12 volt automotive lead acid batteries in the capacity range of between 15-80 amp hours. Most small car batteries are in this range
• It is recommended that this charger is not to be used by children and should be kept out of reach whilst in use

MAINTENANCE:

1. Check the power cord periodically and if it’s damaged please replace it by an authorized service facility.
2. Keep the handle dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
3.  Ensure that the ventilation slots are kept clean and free from dust at all times. Blocked ventilation slots can cause overheating and damage to the motor.
4. After use, please store in a dry & clean area
