V5 INFINIUM Controls

Step 2: Controls

VOLUME – Adjusts the overall volume output of the speaker or headphones.

REVERB – Adjusts the amount of reverb effect.

INPUT – Connect your guitar to this jack.

GAIN – Adjusts the amount of input gain, harmonics and overdrive.

TONE – Adjusts the tonal character of the guitar tone.

POWER – Turns the amp on and off. The lamp lights when power is on and it flashes to indicate an error– see Infinium advice!
V5 INFINIUM Controls

INFINIUM ADVICE – When playing excessively beyond the amp’s maximum power capacity, the infinium regulator may struggle to correctly adjust the bias. This may cause the Infinium LED on the rear panel to light up and the front
panel power lamp to flash, falsely indicating an error. Both alerts will disappear after a brief pause in playing. If the alerts persist, replace the EL84 power tube or have the amp checked by a technician. Consider that the power attenuator will only
reduce the volume of the loudspeaker, but stress on the power stage is not reduce dwhen switching to 1 or 0.1 W.

Step 2: Controls

POWER SOURCE – Connect the included IEC cable to this socket and to a mains outlet.
V5 INFINIUM Controls

INFINIUM LED – Lights permanently when the power tube needs to be replaced

POWER ATTENUATOR – switch selects between 5 watt, 1 watt or 0.1 watt mode.

SPEAKER OUTPUT – Connect the built-in speaker or an external speaker cab to
this jack using a ¼” speaker cable. DO NOT use an instrument cable.

V5 INFINIUM Getting started

Step 3: Getting started

Tube amps generally sound best when their power tubes are saturated, or pushed really hard. This is done by simply turning the amp up really loud, which is not always suitable for every playing situation. For times when you want tube saturation at a modest volume, the power attenuator becomes very useful.

power attenuator

Setting the POWER ATTENUATOR to 5 W gives the most volume, but also requires that you play loud to achieve saturation. This is preferable for live performance and band rehearsals, although it may need to be mic’ed through a PA system as well.

power attenuator

Move the switch to the middle 1 W position. If you turn the volume and gain knobs clockwise, the amp creates a thick, rich distortion sound without hurting your ears.

power attenuator

If this setting is still too loud, move the POWER ATTENUATOR switch all the way left to the 0.1 W position. This may be preferable for bedroom practice.
The V5 is also highly sensitive to changes in your guitar’s volume output. With the volume all the way up, it can sound heavily distorted, but the tone will begin to clean up as you roll the volume down. Many players find a tone setting they like, then use only the volume knob on the guitar for all their tonal variation.

V5 INFINIUM Valve Life Monitoring

The INFINIUM Tube Life Monitoring circuitry continuously monitors the output tube biasing for optimum performance and consistent tone, even as the tube ages. When the output tube does need to be replaced, the tube’s matching LED on the back panel will light permanently.
When you do need to replace a tube, you may plug in the new tube and immediately begin using the amplifier; you will not need a technician to set up the bias for the new tube.
To replace a faulty output tube:

  1. Switch off the amplifier and wait for the output tube to cool down to a safe temperature before touching it.
  2. Press down the tube retainer to the chassis using two fingers of one hand, and then gently pull on the tube while lightly rocking back and forth until the tube loosens and slides out of the socket.
  3. Carefully insert the new tube, making sure the new tube’s prongs are properly aligned with the matching holes and the gap is aligned with the corresponding gap in the Noval-socket.
  4. Gently push the new tube until it seats firmly in the socket.
  5. Switch the amplifier back on in Standby mode.
  6. When the tube has warmed up to operating temperature, you may switch the amplifier out of Standby mode.
  7. The INFINIUM Tube Life Monitoring LED should now turn off and you can begin playing. When the front panel light starts flashing regularly, this indicates the amp cannot work due to too many issues. In this case we recommend replacing the faulty power amp tube immediately.
