Set up multiple users on HomePod

Siri on HomePod and HomePod mini can recognize multiple voices, so now everyone in your home can enjoy music tailored to their taste profile, access their own playlists, use Personal Requests, and more.

Add a user to HomePod

  1. Update your HomePod or HomePod mini and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the latest software.
  2. Become a member of the home in the Home app.
  3. Open the Home app and follow the onscreen steps to let HomePod recognize your voice on every HomePod speaker in the home.

To let Siri recognize who in the family is speaking and manage their calendar, make phone calls, play their own music, and more, turn on the following settings:

  • Go to Settings > Siri & Search. Turn on Listen for “Hey Siri.”
  • Go to Settings > [your name] > Find My > and turn on Share My Location. Then set My Location to This Device.
  • Open the Home app, tap Home   , then select Home Settings. Tap your user profile under People, and turn on:
    • Recognize my Voice: Allows Siri to know your name, access your music library and Apple Music account, use Find My, and control secure HomeKit accessories from HomePod.
    • Personal Requests: Lets you use HomePod to send and read messages, make phone calls, check your calendar, add reminders, create notes, run Siri Shortcuts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and more. HomePod might require authentication for some requests and will send a notification to your iPhone to authenticate the task. If you have more than one HomePod in your home, you can turn Personal Requests on or off for each HomePod.
    • Update Listening History: Under Media, select your music service, then turn on Update Listening History to add the music you play to your Apple Music taste profile so Siri can suggest and play songs that you’ll love.
    • Control Accessories Remotely: Allows users to remotely control HomeKit accessories and receive accessory notifications when users are away from the home.

Siri features might vary by country or region.

If Siri doesn’t recognize you

Siri might ask you who you are from time to time. You can respond with your name, or you can even begin a request by saying, “Hey Siri, this is [your name]” or “Hey Siri, who am I?” If Siri calls you the wrong name, say, “No, this is [your name].” If you have the same name as someone else sharing your HomePod, have Siri call you by a nickname.

If Siri doesn’t recognize you after setup, try these steps. After each step, see if Siri recognizes you.

  1. Reset Recognize My Voice: In the Home app, tap Home , then tap Home Settings. Tap your name under People, then turn Recognize My Voice off then on. Wait a few minutes before trying Siri again.
  2. Restart the iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch that you use with “Hey Siri.”
  3. Restart your HomePod.
  4. Set up “Hey Siri” again: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn Listen for “Hey Siri” off then on, and follow onscreen instructions to teach Siri your voice.

If you have two Apple IDs in your home that have “Hey Siri” set up with the same voice, you might need to turn off Recognize my Voice on one account.
