Thermostatic Radiator Valve

A Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV) regulates the heat emitted from a radiator in order to maintain a certain room temperature. It does so by measuring the air temperature from around it and controlling the flow of hot water through the radiator to which it is fitted.
Main features:

  • Fits into the most standard radiator
  • LCD display with backlight
  • Set target temperature on the device itself or through a gateway
  • Schedule set up by the gateway
  • Manual override to bypass schedule
  • Lock button keys
  • Window open detection
  • Freeze protection
  • Decals protection
  • Fully battery powered

This device supports U-Net and is fully compatible with other U-Net devices. This device supports the U-Net Auto-binding feature which pairs the device automatically to the gateway at power-up.

  4. The TRV can be mounted at various orientations as shown below:EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-various orientation

Note : The TRV needs a free flow of air to sense the temperature so they must not be covered by curtains or blocked by furniture

Binding with HomeSys

  1. Log into the HomeSys account from a web browser.
  2. Select “System”.
  3. Select “Add a New Device”, then “Thermostatic Radiator Valve”.
  4. Click „Next‟ until the screen below appears. This means the gateway is entering binding mode.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Binding with HomeSys 2
  5. Insert the battery into the battery compartment. Note the correct polarity of the battery as indicated.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Binding with HomeSys 3
  6. The screen below will appear in 10 seconds if the process is successful.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Binding with HomeSys 4
  7. Time-out will occur if the binding process was unsuccessful. Please refer to the “Manual binding” chapter in the Troubleshooting section.

Calibration

  1. After the battery is inserted, the unit will start initializing itself. During this period the LCD will display INIL with backlight flashing for 2 minutes.
  2.  When the TRV displays ADAP, press UP button to start the calibration. The number 0 will change to number 1. If it does not change to 1, press UP button again.
  3. The TRV will start to adapt itself to the stroke of the valve‟s body by opening and closing the valve twice to store the endpoints. This could take up to 1 minute.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Calibration
  4. Calibration is complete when temperature readings appear on the LCD.
Note: Temperature readings will become accurate 10 minutes after installing the batteries.

Operation

  1. Modes: There are four modes to control room temperature; Schedule, ECO, COMFORT, and OFF.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve
COMFORT: Temperature setpoint for heating comfort. Typically set when the room is occupied
ECO: Lower temperature setpoint to reduce heating energy, usually set during sleeping hours or when away from home.
OFF: Turns off the heating control of the TRV.
Schedule: Mode to program 24 hours/day to switch between COMFORT and ECO Mode. See the next chapter „Schedule‟ for more details.

  2. Setpoint temperatures for ECO mode and COMFORT mode can be set under the “System” page.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-COMFORT mode

  3. Manual Over-ride: Pressing the Up, Down and M button on the TRV will bypass the schedule control temporarily (default 4 hrs) allowing for on-demand manual control of the TRV

  4. Open window detection: When enabled, the TRV will automatically stop heating when it detects a sudden drop in room temperature (default: 2°C in 15 minutes). This usually happens when a window or door is opened without turning off the heating device. The LCD will display OP. The device will return to the previous mode of operation after 30mins or press any button to exit.

  5. Key lock: When enabled, the button keys on the TRV will be locked to prevent any tampering, shown by the LOCK icon on the LCD. Key lock can also be activated by pressing and holding buttons P and M simultaneously for 5 seconds.

  6. Temperature chart: This can be viewed under the “Automation” page, “Statistics” tab.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Temperature chart

Schedule

  1. The TRV can be programmed with a schedule to switch modes based on the time of the day.
  2. Before creating your schedule, each mode ECO, COMFORT, and OFF need to be assigned a scene in the Homesys environment.
  3. Under the “Automation” page, click on the “Scenes” tab and select “Add a Scene”.
  4. Locate the TRV icon on the right and select a mode from the drop-down list, as shown on the left.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Schedule
  5. Click on that TRV icon so that it appears on the left side under “SCENARIO ACTIONS”. Rename the Scene if need to (“TRV COMFORT” in the example below). Click “X” to close when finished.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-TRV COMFORT
  6.  Repeat step 3 to 5 for the remaining two modes. When done, there should be 3 Scenes, one for each model.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-each mode
  7. To create a schedule to operate these scenes; from the “Automation” page, select the “Schedule” tab and click “Add a Schedule”.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Add a Schedule
  8. Set the Start time and assign one Scene created earlier to “Link Scene”.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-Scene create
  9. Repeat steps 7 to 8 for all the settingsEVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve-settings
  10. When the schedule is complete, the gateway will sync the information to the TRV. The modes will appear as segments on the scheduled ring around the LCD as shown below. Each segment represents a 30mins interval.EVERSPRING AC201 Thermostatic Radiator Valve- Each segment

Maintenance

Low Battery: Under low battery conditions, the TRV will remit RF signals to the gateway to alert the user of its low battery condition. Replace the batteries as soon as possible.
Decal: When the TRV is inactive for long periods in use, e.g. during summer, it will automatically rotate the valve once every two weeks. This helps to prevent clogging of the radiator pipes and stiffening of the valve caused by a build-up of minerals.
