Installing the BinoViewer
- Remove 1.25″ Eyepiece holder caps (1) and 1.25” Barrel cap (9) before getting started to use the BinoViewer.
- Mounting the BinoViewer on a telescope
2.1 Cassegrain or Refractor telescope
Adapt a non-inverting diagonal, like penta or half-pentaprism diagonal*, to the focuser of your telescope. Then insert 1.25” barrel (8) of the BinoViewer to the prism diagonal.
The image would be erected after adapting the eyepieces. You may use a mirror or roof prism diagonal, but the image would be upside down and it may be laterally inverted. Diagonal type| Image
---|---
No inverting diagonal, like penta or half-pentaprism diagonal| Erecting image
Mirror diagonal| Upside down and not laterally inverted
Roof prism diagonal| Upside down and laterally inverted
2.2 Newtonian Reflector telescope
The BinoViewer has a parfocal optical design.
Insert an eyepiece to the focuser/extension tube of your Newtonian telescope.
Turn the focus wheel of your telescope to get a clear and sharp image. Remove
the eyepiece and insert the 1.25″ barrel (8) of the BinoViewer to the
focuser/extension tube of the Newtonian telesccpe directly. The image would
be erected after adapting the eyepieces*.
Inserting eyepieces* (Fig. 2a)
- Insert 2 pieces of the same eyepiece* to the end of the right and left eyepiece holder (3/5).
- Turn the eyepiece twist locks (2) to tighten the eyepieces.
Important: Make sure the eyepieces are firmly fixed. If the eyepieces are not firmly fixed, they may slip out of the eyepiece holders during observation.
Focusing
-
Look through the left eyepiece with the left eye.
Turn the focus wheel of your telescope to get a clear and sharp image. -
Look through the right eyepiece* with the right eye.
Check whether the image you see is clear and sharp. If so, go ahead with chapter 7.
If the image is fuzzy, you may need to adjust the focus by turning the diopter focusing ring (6) until the right image becomes clear and sharp.
Note: The diopter focusing ring is marked with + ◄ ► – scale. This allows for a step-less diopter adjustment.
Adjusting the interpupillary distance
Look through both eyepieces* with both eyes.
Firmly hold the left and right parts of the IPD adjustment casing (7) and push
together or pull apart the casing parts with light force. Doing so will merge
two single images into one image.
Now you can enjoy your observations.
Note: Remember the number of the IPD scale for further observations.
Maintenance and Cleaning
- Protect the device from dust and moisture.
- After use, particularly in high humidity, let the device acclimatize for a short period of time so that the residual moisture can dissipate before storing.
- Put on the covering caps and store it in the included hard case when not in use.
- Store the device in the included hard case in a dry, dust-free place when it is not being used for a longer time.
- Only use a dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device.
- Clean the lenses only with a soft, lint-free cloth (e.g. microfibre cloth). To avoid scratching the lenses, use only gentle pressure with the cleaning cloth.
- To remove dust from the lenses, use a fine brush or air blower. Don’t touch any optical surface with fingers – the coating may be damaged.
