PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLATION LEAVE A COPY FOR THE USER / MAINTENANCE ENGINEER FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION

  • Building Regulations Part L, NHBC and other interested parties/insurers’ require that loft insulation is laid unbroken over the whole ceiling area to avoid “thermal bridging” – i.e. the loss of heat through spaces in the insulation due to the fitment of luminaires.
  • This downlight insulation guard is intended for the use of supporting insulation in loft spaces around recessed downlight luminaires in order to meet these requirements.
  • This downlight insulation guard is suitable for installation in insulated loft voids where downlights being fitted into ceilings would otherwise penetrate the loft insulation and thereby preventing compliance in meeting the Building Regulations Part L.
  • Installation should be carried out in accordance with the latest edition of the I.E.E. Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and taking into consideration the latest Building Regulations. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
  • Ensure that ALL electrical connections to the luminaire and associated equipment, which is to be housed within the downlight insulation guard, are tight with no exposed loose strands or contacts which could touch & short onto the downlight insulation guard.
  • All luminaries run HOT. It is the installer’s responsibility to consider any possible fire risks and take appropriate precautions associated with the installation.

IMPORTANT USER INFORMATION

  • Always switch off mains supply to the luminaire and associated equipment before installation.
  • Do not stand on or walk over the insulation guard – max. load is 20 Kgs.

GENERAL INSTALLATION

  1. Unpack the insulation guard taking care of any sharp edges on the material. Use hand protection.

  2. Lay the insulation guard flat ensuring the interlocking tab receptacle is in the upward position – see Fig 1.

  3. Bend the four interlocking tabs up 90° – Fig 1.
    GENERAL INSTALLATION

  4. Bend the adjacent sides up 90° – Fig 2.
    GENERAL INSTALLATION

  5. Bend the sides with the tabs up 90°, ensuring the interlocking tabs are inserted into their receptacles on the adjacent sides- Fig 3.
    GENERAL INSTALLATION

  6. Push together until the interlocking tabs lock into place – Fig 4.
    GENERAL INSTALLATION

  7. The assembled insulation guard can now be fitted over the back of the luminaire in the loft void – Fig 5 in preparation for the installation of the loft insulation. The luminaire must be positioned at least 50mm from the sides of the insulation guard. If a transformer, controller or ballast is used with the luminaire, this may also be positioned within the insulation guard. However, the luminaire and transformer/controller/ballast should be kept at least 150mm apart from each other.
    GENERAL INSTALLATION

  8. The points on the sides will aid in gripping the insulation guard against the ceiling thus limiting any movement or disturbance, especially when the insulation is laid. However, care must still be taken to ensure the insulation guard remains in place.
