Cybersecurity disclaimer
Siemens provides a portfolio of products, solutions, systems, and services
that includes security functions that support the secure operation of plants,
systems, machines, and networks. In the field of Building Technologies, this
includes building automation and control, fire safety, security management as
well as physical security systems.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines, and networks against cyber
threats, it is necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a
holistic, state-of-the-art security concept. Siemens’ portfolio only forms one
element of such a concept.
You are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to your plants,
systems, machines, and networks which should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is
necessary and only when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or
network segmentation) are in place. Additionally, Siemens’ guidance on
appropriate security measures should be taken into account. For additional
information, please contact your Siemens sales representative or visit
https://www.siemens.com/global/en/home/company/topicareas/future-of-
manufacturing/industrial-security.html.
Siemens’ portfolio undergoes continuous development to make it more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that updates are applied as soon as they are
available and that the latest versions are used.
Use of versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply the latest
updates may increase your exposure to cyber threats.
Siemens strongly recommends complying with security advisories on the latest
security threats, patches, and other related measures, published, among
others, under
https://www.siemens.com/cert/en/cert-security-advisories.htm.

4G Dongle Setup Installing dongle
Installing dongle
Cyber security can only be ensured as long as the latest firmware version is installed. It is recommended to perform firmware updates manually.
Follow the general installation steps below to set up the device. Images shown
are based on device type Huawei E3372/E3372h-320. UI may differ depending
on the
chosen device type.
- Connect 4G dongle to a local PC.
The dongle appears as a physical drive once connected.
2. Navigate to the local device UI of the dongle.
3. Disable PIN verification. Enter initial PIN and select change
PIN. Leave new
PIN field empty and confirm.
Default Access Point Name (APN) profile is created automatically.
4. Verify the APN of your provider. If APN is different from standard,
you can enter and save login details in the profile manually. You can store
multiple profiles for
various SIM cards.
5. Check the internet for firmware updates of the respective dongle type.
6. Enable 4G only.
7. Leave Network search mode: Auto unchanged. In Manual mode, you can
select a preferred network provider.
8. Check all other project-specific settings such as data roaming and
auto disconnect interval. It is recommended to set auto disconnect intervals
to the maximum time limit.
Dongle is ready for connection to a Connect X300 device.
4G Dongle Setup Connecting dongle
Connecting dongle The USB dongle can be plugged into any USB port. It is
recommended to use port X60. A connected WAN cable can be plugged in
simultaneously.
The dongle is set with higher priority and the communication channel will be
changed automatically once a connection is established. When the dongle is
removed,
WAN port will be activated again automatically.
-
Connect a LAN cable to the X1P1 port on the Connect X300.
-
Connect the dongle to USB port X60 on the Connect X300.
The WWAN0 interface will be created if an internet connection exists. If 4G connection fails and WAN port X2P1 is connected to a wired network, the
system will try to connect via WAN0. -
To ensure that a proper connection is given, check the following indicators:
– Connection LED on the Connect X300 device is flashing orange.
– WWAN0 port is displayed on the local device UI under Network > Route.
– The cloud connectivity state Connected is displayed.
