Getting started

End User License Agreement
The software (“Software”) supplied with the ALTERIC NOTE device (“Device”) is subject to an End User License Agreement (“EULA”). The EULA is available by pressing the Home button,then tap [Settings] ‒ [About
This Device] ‒ [End User License Agreement]. PLEASE READ THE EULA CAREFULLY ‒ IT CONTAINS EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS THAT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
YOU MUST AGREE TO THE EULA BEFORE ACCESSING, DOWNLOADING, INSTALLING AND/OR USING THE SOFTWARE.
IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THE EULA, THEN YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO ACCESS, DOWNLOAD, INSTALL AND/OR USE THE SOFTWARE.

Important Safety Information

**** Follow all safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, chemical burns, serious injury, death, or property damage.

Battery safety
The Device uses lithium-ion batteries. Charge only as specified and handle the Device properly to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, chemical burns, or product malfunction or property damage.

Do not misuse the battery.

  • The battery is not user serviceable. Do not attempt to access, remove, service, or disassemble the battery.
    For battery replacement, internal checking or repair, please contact the Customer Support Center.

  • Do not expose the battery to fire or heat.

If the battery pack leaks:
Battery fluid can cause blindness or skin injury. If any fluid leaks from the product, do not touch it with your bare hands. There may be additional liquid inside the product therefore, insert the product into a sealed bag and keep away from fire. Consult the Customer Support Center and make sure you dispose of or recycle the product according to local laws and regulations.

FIRST AID:
‒ If the fluid gets into your eyes, it may cause blindness. Do not rub your eyes. Immediately wash your eyes thoroughly with clean water and seek medical treatment.
‒ If the fluid gets on your body or clothes, it may cause injuries. Immediately rinse off with clean  water and seek medical treatment if you havesymptoms of skin inflammation or injury.

Dispose of the Device and battery safely
Recycle the Device, with its internal battery, in accordance with local regulations.⦆See “Safe Disposal and Recycling”, P.7.⦆Do not attempt  toremove thebattery yourself.⦆If the battery is  damaged, contact the Customer Support Center for specific handling information.⦆Do  not crush or dispose of  the Device or battery in  a fire,⦆in householdtrash, or  in a municipalrecycling bin.
Protect the Device from damage
Do not use the Device if it is damaged.
Check for damage before use. Stop using immediately if you notice any malfunction or damage. Check the connection terminals periodically to make sure that dust does not accumulate.

Keep the Device dry.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or Device damage, do not to allow the Device to get wet. If the
Device gets wet, consult the Customer Support Center.

  • The Device is not waterproof.
    ‒ Keep the Device away from water.
    ‒ Do not use the Device in humid locations or wet weather, such as rain or snow.
    If you touch the Device with wet hands or store it in damp place, the Device may malfunction.

  • Do not use or store in areas where condensation occurs. (Condensation means moisture in the air adheres to a metal plate and becomes water droplets).
    If condensation occurs, to  avoid potential malfunction, donot turn  on the Device until the condensation disappears.

Protect the Device from foreign objects and dust.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or damage to your Device:

  • Do not insert anything other than the supplied USB cable into the USB port. If a foreign object gets into the device, consult the Customer Support Center.
  • Do not leave coins, keys, jewelry, etc., near the USB port or USB cable. Metallic objects can short-circuit the terminals of the Device.
  • Do not use or store the Device in a dusty location. Dust in the Device may result in electric shock or damage.

Prevent Device overheating.
The internal battery may burst or leak if exposed to high temperatures (over 140°F), which may cause fire or injury. The Device may deform or be damaged if overheated.

  • Do not use or store the Device in areas subject to high temperatures (over 140°F), such as near fire or heating appliances or in direct sunlight at high temperatures.
    The recommended operating temperature range for the Device is 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C) and the recommended charging temperature range is 41°F to 95°F (5°C to 35°C). The Device may deform or become damaged if overheated.

  • Do not leave the Device in a car parked in the sun or with closed windows. The lens effect of the car window glass in direct sunlight increases the chance that the Device will overheat.

  • Do not cover the Device with a blanket or wrap it in anything when charging or turned on.

  • Heat may build up in the Device while charging or if it is used for an extended period of time. This may cause malfunction or damage. If the Device overheats, unplug from the charging connection and allow the Device to cool.

Protect the Device from physical damage.

  • Protect the Device from falls and physical abuse -do not drop it or store it on an unstable position or sloping surface.
  • Do not put any heavy object on top of the Device. This may cause a malfunction or damage and the Deviceʼs delicate toughscreen screen may be damaged. Do not sit on or lean against the product. It cannot support your weight; you may be injured or it might be damaged.
  • Make sure no objects with sharp or hard edges come into direct contact with the Device.
  • Never subject the Device to extreme light, temperature, moisture or vibration.

Safety during use
Do not use the Device in situations that required your full attention.
Do not use the Device when you need to stay aware of your surroundings.

  • Do not use while driving a vehicle, riding a bicycle or motor cycle oron foot..
  • Do not use at railroad crossings, station platforms, traffic routes, aroun heavy machinery or similarly danegrous situations.

Avoid burns from prolonged contact.
Heat may build up in the Device while charging or when the Device is used for an extended period. If the Device generates heat and contacts your skin for a prolonged
period, you may suffer burn symptoms, such as redness and swelling, even if the Device temperature is moderate and/or if you have sensitive skin.

Avoid radio frequency (RF) and medical device interference.
In certain situations, you may need  to turn off the wireless  feature or turn off the entire  Device to avoid interference.

  • Turn off the wireless feature of the Device when you are in a location that prohibits radio communications.

  • When in an aircraft, follow all flight crew instructions regarding Device use.

  • Turn off the wireless feature in health care facilities where any posted regulations instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be affected by radio frequency (RF) energy which is generated by wireless communication.
    Do not  useyour Device near  medical equipment without first obtaining permission to  doso.

  • Do not put the Device close to medical equipment or people using medical equipment. For example, the Device must be at least 22 cm (8.7 inches) from a pacemaker. If you use medical equipment or have an implanted medical device, consult your doctor before you use the product.

  • Do not use the Device near automatic control devices such as automatic doors and fire alarms. There is a possibility that the radio waves will affect operation and potentially cause an accident due to malfunction.

  • General notes on using the Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) function:
    ‒ In some countries or regions, use of Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) products may be restricted by the local regulations (e.g. limited number of channels).
    ‒ If the Device causes interference to radio or television reception, turn the Device off and move it away from the radio or television.

Child safety
Keep product and its packaging away from children.
The Device includes small parts, and the packaging can pose a suffocation hazard. In addition, children may damage the Device. Do not allow children to play with the Device.

  • If a child swallows the stylus, replacement tip, or any buttons which have come off, consult a doctor immediately. They may cause choking or damage the stomach.
  • The plastic bag in which the Device is packaged may cause suffocation if placed in the mouth or over the head. Discard safely.

Initial setup

  1. Set up the ALTERIC NOTE Device by pushing the Power button to turn on the Device
  2. Set the Device according to the instructions on the screen.
  3. Wi-Fi will be needed to move on to setting up the application that enables the Device to communicate with your computer (“ALTERIC NOTE PC App”).(See instructions of “Setting of ALTERIC NOTE PC App”)
    ※ Wi-Fi is used only for setup and transferring documents between the Device and the computer.
    The Device cannot display Internet content.

Charge safely

WARNING Charge only as specified to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, chemical burns, or product malfunction or property damage.

  • Use the supplied USB cable only, and charge only by connecting to your computer. Do not use any other USB cables or charge by any other method.
  • Do not charge the Device near fire, heat, or in direct sunlight.
  • Never cover or wrap the Device in anything while it is charging.
  • Heat may build up in the Device while charging, which may cause malfunction or damage. If the Device becomes hot from charging, disconnect the Device and allow it to cool.

Connect the Device to a computer to charge the battery.

  1. Be sure your location is within the recommended charging temperature range (41°F to 95°F; 5°C to 35 °C). If the room is too hot or cold, adjust the room temperature accordingly before charging.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. Connect the supplied USB cable to the USB port on the Device and a USB port on the computer.

Note:

  • The Device will not charge if your computer is turned off or is in sleep, standby or hibernation mode.
  • The Charge indicator light turn red while charging.

Charging time

  • Charging time varies depending on battery usage.
  • If the battery lasts only half the normal time even after being fully charged, it may be reaching the end of its useful life.

Setting of ALTERIC NOTE PC App

  1. Turn on your computer and connect to the internet.
  2. Download ALTERIC NOTE PC App from the following site (https://altericnote.com/utility/) and install on the computer. This PC App is required to transfer documents (PDF) using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
  3. Start the ALTERIC NOTE PC App and connect the supplied USB cable to the USB port on the Device and a USB port of the computer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instrucions to connect the Device with the computer. Only connected computers can be used to transfer documents.
  5. Update the app software if a software update is available. Please check from the website for the updated version.

Others

Handling the Stylus

  • Do not use the stylus to poke people or objects.
  • Do not bend the stylus, use it to scratch the touchscreen or otherwise misuse it.
  • Use the stylus only on touchscreen.
  • Do not use the stylus if it is damaged or deformed.
  • Do not subject the stylus to shock or vibration.
  • Do not apply any excessive pressure to the stylus tip and stylus button during operation.
  • Do not keep the stylus tip pressed while the stylus is not in use.

Using the touchscreen

  • The Deviceʼs display is covered with a thin and lightweight plactic film.
    When the Device is illuminated, distortion of the plastic film may be seen, but this is not a malfunction.

  • When using the Device in a cold environment, the screen may respond more slowly.

  • When protective films are attached to the touchscreen, the touchscreen may not operate properly.

  • Do not press the screen or screen frame too hard or rub the screen. This may cause screen stains or  malfunction. Use the stylus gently on the Deviceʼstouchscreen.

  • An object placed on the touchscreen may cause a malfunction. When not in use, leave the Device in sleep mode or turn it off.

  • When the stylus is near the touchscreen, the finger  operation is inactive which can urge the batteryconsumption.

Cleaning the Device

  • Do not use water to clean the Device. Clean the Device with a soft cloth, such as a cleaning cloth for eyeglasses. Make sure that there is no dust or dirt on the soft cloth that may scrath or damage the Device.
  • Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent, such as alcohol or benzene, as it may mar the finish of the case.
  • Wipe the stylus with a dry cloth when it gets dirty.
    Tapping or dragging on the touchscreen using a dirty stylus may damage the surface.

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is used only for setup and transferring documents between the Device and the computer. The Device cannot display internet content.

NFC Use
If the Device is placed on a metal desk, it may not function properly, such as failing to communicate with the FeliCa card or Devices that support FeliCa. In this case, keep a few inches between the Device and the metal desk.
Regulatory information
This Device displays the information below.

  • The FCC Identifier (FCC ID) based on the FCC Rules You can display these marks or registration numbers.

Press the Home button, then tap [Settings] – [Regulatory Information].
If you cannot display the marks or registration numbers due to a malfunction, contact the Customer Support Center.

Safe Disposal and Recycling

Dispose of the product safely.
This product contains a built-in Lithium-Ion battery, which should be recycled. Do not attempt to remove the battery yourself.⦆If the battery is damaged, contact the Customer Support Center for specific handling information.
To reduce the risk of fire or injury⦆and to help preserve our environment,⦆seal the product in an otherwise empty plastic bag and take it to an electronics collection and recycling location in accordance with local regulations.
Do not crush or dispose of in a fire, in household trash, or in a municipal recycling bin.
The EPA (www.epa.gov/recycle/used-lithium-ion- batteries) suggests⦆using the⦆Earth 911 database (search.earth911.com) to find recyclers or retailers that participate in takeback services or contact Reverse Logistic Group Americas (https://rev-log.com/us/). Alternately, they suggest contacting⦆your local solid waste or household hazardous waste collection program

Handling precautions
Place each battery or device containing a battery in a separate plastic bag. Place non-conductive tape (e.g., electrical tape) over the batteryʼs terminals. If the Li-ion battery becomes damaged, contact the battery or device manufacturer for specific handling information. Even used batteries can have enough energy to injure or start fires. Not all batteries are removable or serviceable by the user. Heed battery and product markings regarding safety and use.

In order to comply with FCC RF Exposure requirements,  this device must be used as specified in the Userʼs Manual. In body-worn operating configurations, only those belt clips, holsters or similar accessories that have no metallic component in the assembly may be used with the device.
