- Before adjusting the angle of inclination first disconnect from power mains. Below you will find some hints on trimming hedges:
-
Before cutting bushes, scrubs or hedges, remove thick branches or similar material. Make sure that there are no small animals hidden in the bushes or hedges.
There are different cutting techniques and certain seasons to be observed when trimming hedges or bushes. For detailed information see appropriate technical
literature. -
Please note the local rest periods when working with the hedge trimmer in order to avoid disturbances.
-
If a hedge has to be cut back very substantially, trim the hedge in two passes.
-
First, cut the hedge to the desired height and stretch a string along the hedge at the desired height. Guide the blades of the hedge trimmer at an angle of 10 – 15° to the hedge in order to get a straight cut.
-
Trim the hedge to a trapezoidal shape cutting from the bottom to the top.
-
Round the top edges of the hedge.
-
Finally, trim the bottom edges back.
-
Appropriately dispose of cut materials.

Instruction Manual
Diamond Hedge Trimmer Sharpener with Ventilator
Article No. 62 04 19
Dear Customers
Dull hedge trimmers are a nuisance. Twigs and leaves are not cut but rather
ripped off. This is damaging to the natural growth of your hedge, the cut
never looks tidy and the cut
twigs and leaves discolor to an ugly brown. A hedge trimmer is not difficult
to sharpen.
On the blades of your hedge trimmer sheared-off plant matter and sap
accumulate. In this environment bacteria and fungi, which can harm your
health, grow and multiply.
To keep these away from your nose and lungs, we have equipped the diamond
hedge trimmer sharpener with a ventilator, which, independently from the
rotating direction, blows the dust produced by the grinding of the knives,
away from you.

Safety Notes
Please note the following advice to avoid malfunctions, physical damage, and injuries:
- While working with the sharpener, please always wear eye protection and keep in mind that the sharpener can become very hot during use.
- Hedge trimmers have very sharp edges. Please take care not to injure yourself.
- Make sure no clothing, jewelry, or hair can get caught by the ventilator. If necessary, wear a cap.
Using
Prolonged use makes the sharp edges of the knives dull and round. Regrinding restores the sharp edges; here the actual angle is less important than having a continuous, even edge.
Regrinding Cutter Bars
Place the hedge trimmer on a solid, even surface. On most hedge trimmers only
the moving (top) blade is sharp and the stationary (bottom) blade is only a
sharp-edged stamping. Clamp the sharpener into the chuck of an electric drill
or an electric screwdriver. The sharpener id designed to work at around 3000
pm.
- Place the rotating sharpener from above onto the mobile knife at a right angle.
- Trim the edge in a single, flowing motion from the middle outwards. Be careful to keep a uniform angle. The actual angle is less important than the fact that the angle should be uniform and the edge straight.
- After all teeth of the mobile knife have been ground, please check whether the edges of the stationary knife are still sufficiently sharp. If the stationary knife is worn out as well, grind it to a right angle as well.

Sharp Hedge Trimmer: Mobile knife (top) and stationary knife (bottom) are
sharp.| Worn HedgeTrimmer: Mobile knife (top) and stationary knife
(bottom) are worn.| Grinding: Remove the material high-lighted here with
the sharpener to restore the cutting per- formance.
