Proper use

The maremed® is intended for humidifying sea water and cleaning the air indoors. The maremed® is only intended for domestic/private use. The maremed® is not intended for medical or commercial use. The marked ® special sea salt is NOT suitable for consumption. Use the maremed® only for the purpose for which it was developed and in the manner specified in these instructions for use. Any improper use may be dangerous. The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from improper or incorrect use. If you have any doubts, do not use the device and contact your retailer or the specified Customer Services address. 25

Warnings and safety notes

WARNING
Read the warnings and safety notes carefully. Non-observance of the following information may result in personal injury or material damage.

  • If you suffer from a severe respiratory or lung disease, consult your doctor before using the device.

WARNING

  • Keep packaging material away from children. There is the risk of suffocation.

Electric shock

WARNING

  • As with every electrical device, use this marked ® carefully and cautiously in order to avoid hazards caused by electric shock. Therefore, observe the following instructions for use:
    – Only operate the device at the voltage indicated on the device (the type plate is located on the mains adapter)
    – Never use the device if it or its accessories show visible signs of damage
    – Do not use the device during a storm

  • In the event of defects or operational faults, switch the device off immediately and disconnect it from the main socket. Do not pull on the mains cable or on the device to disconnect the plug from the socket. Never hold or carry the device by the main cable. Keep the cables away from hot surfaces.

  • Always switch off the device before disconnecting the mains plug.

  • Never disconnect the mains plug with wet or damp hands.

  • Keep the device away from sources of heat as the housing could melt and trigger a fire.

  • Ensure that the openings of the armed ® and the mains cable do not come into contact with water, steam or other liquids.

  • Do not use the device in close proximity to flammable or explosive gas mixtures.

  • Never reach for a device that is submerged in water. Disconnect the mains plug immediately.

  • Do not use the device if it or its accessories are visibly damaged.

  • This device contains a UVC lamp.

  • Improper use of this device or damage to the housing could result in the emission of dangerous UVC radiation. Even in small doses, UVC radiation can damage your eyes and skin.

Repairs
WARNING

  • Only specialist personnel may perform repairs on electrical devices. Improper repairs may subject users to a considerable danger. For repairs, please contact Customer Services or an authorized retailer.
  • Do not open the fan unit.

Risk of fire

WARNING

  • There is a risk of fire if the device is used improperly or these instructions for use are ignored.
    • Therefore, observe the following instructions for use:
    – Never use the device underneath a cover, such as a blanket, pillow, etc.
    – Never use the device near petrol or other highly flammable substances.

Handling

IMPORTANT

  • The device must be switched off and disconnected after every use and before cleaning.
  • Do not place any objects in device openings or in rotating parts. Ensure that the moving parts can move freely at all times.
  • Do not place any objects on the device.
  • Do not expose the device to high temperatures.
  • Protect the device against sunlight and impacts and do not drop it.
  • Never shake the device.
  • Avoid water damage by handling the device carefully (e.g. water damage from splashing in the vicinity of wooden floors).
  • Place the device on a firm, level, and water-resistant surface.
  • The water, the metal rods, and the plastic may discolor slightly.

Initial use

Inserting the water filter and pre-filter

1. Open the cardboard packaging.

2. Remove the cover from the maremed® in an upward direction. Remove the protective foam from the golden sensor pins on the underside of the cover.
3. Remove the film packaging from the water filter and take out the two pre- filters.
4. Remove the pre-filter holders from the device cover. Place the pre-filters into the two pre-filter holders. The smooth, firm side must be positioned towards the inside of the device.
5. Then place the pre-filter holders into the cover of the maremed®. When inserting the pre-filter holders, make sure that the triangle markings are aligned. The triangle markings are located on the underside of the pre-filter holders and on the underside of the cover.

6. Place the evaporator block with the water filter into the tank in an upright position.


Filling the tank with tap water and marked special sea salt

Before you can start using the device, you must first fill the tank of the marked ® with tap water and the marked ® ® special sea salt.

IMPORTANT

Use the marked special sea salt. Do not use the armed ® exclusively with the marked ® may be damaged if other salts are used. Do not add any essential oils or fragrances to the tank either. If other additives are used, the plastic material may become discolored and damaged. ® with any other salts! The marked ® To fill the tank, proceed as follows:

  1. Ensure that the armed is disconnected from the mains.
  2. Remove the cover from the maremed® in an upward direction.
  3. Fill the tank fully up to the MAX marking (approx. 6 liters) with fresh, cold tap water.
  4. Using the measuring jug, add 90 ml of the armed ® special sea salt included in delivery to the tap water. (For every 1 liter of tap water use 15 ml of marked ® special sea salt).
  5. Place the cover back onto the housing of the armed ® ® from above.

Note
When carrying the device, only use the recessed handles at the front and back provided for this purpose. The top recesses are merely for taking off the cover.

Setting up the marked ®
  1. Place the mark on a firm, level, and water-resistant surface to prevent vibrations and noise. ®
  2. Set up the marked ® in such a way that there is 30 cm clearance on all sides.
  3. Make sure that the air inlet and air outlet are never blocked.
  4. Make sure that the touch display is facing the front.

Usage

Switching on the marked
  1. Ensure that you have installed the water filter and pre-filter and filled the tank with tap water and the marked ® special sea salt.
  2. Insert the mains plug into the socket. Ensure that the cable does not pose a trip hazard. The marked ® is now ready for use.
  3. To switch on the marked ®, press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds. All of the symbols on the touch display will briefly light up. The UVC lamp inside the device will begin to light up. ®
  4. The letters CL will appear on the touch display. The FAN button will now start to flash for 3 minutes. The water in the water tank will now be sterilized before the fan draws in the air, ensuring that there is no bacterial contamination in the water.
  5. After 3 minutes, the FAN button will light up permanently. The fan will now start automatically. The marked ® will now run continuously.

Note
For safety reasons, if you remove the cover from the marked ® when it is connected to 681.19_MK500_2019-05-28_01_Display_BEU the mains, both the fan and the UVC lamp will automatically switch off. Once you put the cover back on again, the 3-minute sterilization process will start again. The fan won’t start again until this has finished.

Note
681.19_MK500_2019-05-28_01_Display_BEU A slight odor initially develops after switching on the device for the first time. This is normal and not harmful to your health. Allow the device to run for three to five minutes. After that, you can use the device as normal.

Selecting the fan speed

The maremed®comes with a total of 3 fan speeds.

  • Select your desired fan speed using the FAN button . The fan speed that is currently set is shown on the touch display.
Timer function

The maremed®comes with a timer function. You can use the timer function to set the number of hours of operation after which the maremed® is to automatically switch off. You can set the timer to between 1 and 24 hours.

  • To set the timer, press the TIMER button until your desired hour value (e.g. 02) appears on the touch display. The timer display >, starts to light up continuously. The maremed® will now automatically switch off after the set number of hours has passed.

Note

If the timer function has been activated, you can also regulate the fan speed or activate the sleep function while it is counting down.

Sleep function

The maremed® comes with a sleep function. Once the sleep function has been switched on, the touch display will switch off.

  1. To switch on the sleep function, press the SLEEP button .
    The SLEEP button starts  to flash for 5 seconds. The sleep function will be active once the 5 seconds have elapsed. Now it is only possible to press the SLEEP button and the ON/OFF button o.

  2. To switch off the sleep function, briefly press the SLEEP button . The touch display will start to light up again and all buttons can be pressed again.

Note
The UVC lamp will stay on when the sleep function is active. If you want the light to go out completely, you can also switch the UVC lamp off.

  1. To switch off the UVC lamp, press and hold the SLEEP button for 5 seconds. Once the UVC lamp has been switched off, it is no longer possible to guarantee that 99% of bacterial contamination will be eliminated.
  2. To switch the UVC lamp on again, press and hold the SLEEP button for 5 seconds.
Refilling the water tank

The device switches off automatically after 72 hours. If the water level is at “MIN”, the water tank must be filled with fresh water and maremed® special sea salt.

Note
The device’s consumption depends on the ambient temperature and humidity in the room. Under normal conditions, the water level reaches “MIN” after approx. 72-96 hours. Ap-prox. 1.5 liters of water will remain in the water tank.

To refill the water tank with water, proceed as follows:

  1. Press the ON/OFF button  to switch off the maremed®.
  2. Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
  3. Remove the mains plug from the maremed®.
  4. Remove the top housing cover.
  5. Remove the evaporator block with the water filter.
  6. Empty out the water from the tank to the side.
  7. Fill the tank fully up to the MAX marking (approx. 6 liters) with fresh, cold tap water.
  8. Using the measuring jug, add 90 ml of the maremed® special sea salt to the tap water (for every 1 liter of tap water use 15 ml of armed special sea salt).
  9. Place the evaporator block with the water filter back into the tank.
  10. Place the top cover onto the housing.
  11. Insert the mains plug into the device and into the mains socket. Ensure that the cable does not pose a trip hazard.
Replacing the water filter and pre-filters

Note
The use of the UVC lamp may result in a slight brown discoloration on the water filter. Small salt crystals may also form on the water filter if the device is used regularly.
We recommend replacing the water filter and the pre-filters with new filters after 2200 operating hours. After 2200 operating hours have elapsed, the filter change indicator will light up on the touch display.

  1. Once the filter change indicator lights up on the touch display, press the ON/OFF button to switch off the maremed®.
  2. Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
  3. Remove the mains plug from the maremed®.
  4. Replace the two pre-filters as shown.
  5. Replace the water filter as shown.
  6. Connect the mains plug to the socket and switch the maremed® on.
  7. Press and hold the TIMER button and the ON/OFF button simultaneously. The filter symbol will go out on the touch display.
  8.  The operating hours counter now resets to.
Replacing the UVC lamp

The UVC lamp should be replaced after 5000 operating hours. Once 5000 operating hours have elapsed, or if the UVC lamp is faulty, 681.19_MK500_2019-05-28_01_Display_BEU will light up on the touch display.

  1. Once lights up on the touch display, press the ON/OFF button to switch off the maremed®.
  2. Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
  3. Remove the mains plug from the maremed®.
  4. Unscrew the cover of the UVC lamp. Remove the cover.
  5. Remove the UVC lamp from the housing as shown.
  6. Carefully insert a new UVC lamp until you feel and hear it click firmly into place.
  7. Replace the cover of the UVC lamp. Screw down the cover of the UVC lamp again.
  8. Insert the mains plug into a suitable socket.
  9. After inserting the new UVC lamp, press and hold the FAN button and the ON/OFF button simultaneously. The lamp symbol will go out on the touch display.
  10. The operating hours counter now resets to .

Cleaning and maintenance

WARNING
Before cleaning, always ensure that the maremed® is disconnected from the mains.
Never clean the maremed® if it is connected to the mains.

IMPORTANT
Regular cleaning is a prerequisite for hygienic and fault-free operation. The marked can be dismantled for cleaning with ease and without tools. Always empty and clean the maremed® fully if the device contains water and has not been operated on for more than 3 days.
A lack of cleaning and hygiene can cause bacteria, algae, and fungi to form in the water.

Rinsing the tank
Always rinse the tank with clean water before filling it up again. If the air is heavily polluted, the device is used intensively or the
water quality is poor, the maimed® should be cleaned at more frequent intervals. If necessary, remove any deposits in the tank using a cleaning cloth. Clean the metal rods of the water level sensors in the tank with a solution of vinegar essence diluted with water. For cleaning purposes, we recommend the use of the optional cleaning sponge.

Cleaning the fan unit
You can wipe the fan unit with a damp cloth. However, make sure that no liquid enters the fan unit under any circumstances.
Cleaning the cover
You can wipe the cover with a damp cloth.
Storage
If you do not plan to use the device for a relatively long period of time, we recommend that you thoroughly empty, clean and dry the device and store it in the original packaging in a dry environment, ensuring it is not weighed down by additional items.

What if there are problems?

Problem Possible cause Solution
The maremed® will not switch on. There is no water in the tank. Fill the

tank as described in section 6.2.

The cover is not fully seated on the housing.| Make sure that the cover is fully seated on the housing by pressing the cover down slightly.

Disposal

For environmental reasons, do not dispose of the device in the household waste at the end of its service life.
Dispose of the device at a suitable local collection or recycling point in your country.
Dispose of the device in accordance with EC Directive – WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). If you have any questions, please contact the local authorities responsible for waste disposal.

Warranty/service

Beurer GmbH, Söflinger Straße 218, 89077 Ulm, Germany (hereinafter referred to as “Beurer”) provides a warranty for this product, subject to the requirements below and to the extent described as follows.

The warranty conditions below shall not affect the seller’s statutory warranty obligations which ensue from the sales agreement with the buyer. The warranty shall apply without prejudice to any mandatory statutory provisions on liability.

Beurer guarantees the perfect functionality and completeness of this product. The worldwide warranty period is 3 years, commencing from the purchase of the new, unused product from the seller.
The warranty only applies to products purchased by the buyer as a consumer and used exclusively for personal purposes in the context of domestic use. German law shall apply.
During the warranty period, should this product prove to be incomplete or defective in functionality in accordance with the following provisions, Beurer shall carry out a repair or a replacement delivery free of charge, in accordance with these warranty conditions.
If the buyer wishes to make a warranty claim, they should approach their local re- tailer in the first instance: see the attached “International Service” list of service addresses.
The buyer will then receive further information about the processing of the warranty claim, e.g. where they can send the product and what documentation is required.

A warranty claim shall only be considered if the buyer can provide Beurer, or an authorized Beurer partner, with
–  a copy of the invoice/purchase receipt, and
–  the original product.
The following are explicitly excluded from this warranty:
–  deterioration due to normal use or consumption of the product;
–  accessories supplied with this product which are worn out or used up through proper use (e.g. batteries, rechargeable batteries, cuffs, seals, electrodes, light sources, attachments, and nebulizer accessories);
–  products that are used, cleaned, stored or maintained improperly and/or contrary to the provisions of the instructions for use, as well as products that have been opened, repaired, or modified by the buyer or by a service
center not authorized by Beurer;
–  damage that arises during transport between manufacturer and customer, or between the service centre and customer;
–  products purchased as seconds or as used goods;
–  consequential damage arising from a fault in this product (however, in this case, claims may exist arising from product liability or other compulsory statutory liability provisions).
Repairs or exchanges in full do not extend the warranty period under any circumstances.
