ROLLER / TOOL CARRIER – BRT

The roller/tool carrier is the basic tool carrier for the SCH 915mm (36″) grass care system. This item has to be purchased to use the 36in attachments. The system is designed to operate behind tractors that have a drawbar height to 9”-12”. The garden roller may be water ballasted for extra weight. The option of additional weight if required, can be placed in the weight tray.

SPECIFICATIONS

Working width 915mm (36”)
Diameter 360mm (14”)
Weight Unballasted 36kg (80lbs)
Weight Ballasted 122kg (270lbs)

TOWING

  • Attach the tow bar with a spanner, tighten the two holding bolts securely.
  • Attach the roller/tool carrier to your tractor using the draw pin provided.

IMPORTANT

  • Travel at very low speed.
  • Do not roll in very wet conditions.
  • Do not over roll as this will encourage poor drainage.
  •  Do not allow ballast water to freeze in winter.

MAINTENANCE

  • Oil the shafts periodically.
  • Tighten the drawbar bolts periodically.

MOSS RAKE ATTACHMENT – BMR
A multi spring tined unit which will tease out moss and dead thatch from lawns.
The moss rake can also be used for “freshening up” gravel drives.

ASSEMBLY

Undo the two centre bolts and remove the black plate – you will have: 4 nuts and bolts, 11 spring tines, 2 thumb screws.

  1.  Start from the left placing the tines one at a time into each pair of holes. The bend in the tine faces the roller when assembled.
  2.  When all the tines are in place push the back over the tines, the larger tip of the back plate goes on top.
  3. Put the four bolts in and tighten.

TO MAKE READY

  • Remove all ballast from the roller/tool carrier.
  • Place the drawbar on the ground.
  • Push the moss rake into the two uprights of the roller as far as it will go.
  • Insert the two thumb screws into the holes in the upright and tighten securely.
  •  Hitch the tractor (have the roller near the tractor and pull the tractor back by hand to hitch up).

IMPORTANT

  • Travel at very low speed.
  • Do not allow the rake to bounce.
  • We advise several passes over the lawn if heavily compacted with moss.
  • For best results spray moss killer several days before raking.
  • Do not reverse when using the moss rake.

AERATOR ATTACHMENT – BA
The aerator is for breaking down the surface pan of the grass to improve drainage and air penetration to the roots.
The aerator is specifically designed for Autumn and early Spring use, whilst the slitter can be used during other months throughout the year.

TO MAKE READY

  • Place the roller/tool carrier in the upright position.
  • Insert the aerator into the two uprights with the points parallel to the towbar.
  • Lift up to the tow bar so it is pointing to the sky.
  • Place one foot on the angle of the weight tray and pull the roller/tool carrier into the reverse position (roller skywards).
  • Hitch the roller/tool carrier to the tractor.

MAINTENANCE

  • Wash after use and oil shafts.

IMPORTANT

  • Never ballast the roller more than half full of water. If you cannot achieve required penetration wait until the conditions are more favourable; a wetter lawn.
  • Travel at a brisk walking pace, however if the unit begins to bounce, slow down.
  • Use the aerator in the autumn and early spring to give deep penetration to the lawn to allow the frost to get under the turf to lift it and in turn relieve the compaction.

SLITTER ATTACHMENT – BS
The slitter is designed to break down the surface pan of the grass to improve drainage and air penetration to the roots.

TO MAKE READY

  • Place the roller/tool carrier in the upright position.
  • Insert the slitter into the two uprights of the roller/tool carrier.
  • Lift up the tow bar so it is pointing to the sky.

SPRAYER ATTACHMENT – BSP
The sprayer attachment slots into the roller.
The 12-volt power sprayer pump is powered from the tractor battery (a separate battery may be supplied as an optional extra). The sprayer is ideal for applying liquid fertiliser  and/or weed killers to grassed areas. The liquid is carried in two 25 litre containers. It is supplied with a wedge nozzle giving a 915mm (36in) coverage and a hollow  cone nozzle for manual spraying.

TO MAKE READY

  • Position the sprayer into the two uprights on the roller, with the brackets facing toward the tractor.
  • Attach the battery clips to the terminals on the tractor battery (the clips can go on either terminal).
  •  Fill the containers with the required solution (Do not overfill – Max 20 Litres).
  •  Select and fit the required nozzle.
    – Red for hollow cone spraying
    – Burgundy for wide angle spraying
The sprayer is fitted with the red nozzle.

IMPORTANT

  •  Should the pump not operate when first depressed, release and push again, repeat until the pump operates.
  • Do not let the pump run dry.
  • Always protect the unit from frost.
  • Flush through with clean water after use.
  • There are two filters:
    – A mesh filter on the base of the pump
    – Within the brass trigger lance handle

NOZZLE

Wide angle –

  • If a wide spray band is required, remove the spray cap from the top of the lance.
  • Carefully remove the circular spray disk (keep in a safe place).
  • Fit the red nozzle so the nozzle protrudes through the cap.
  • Replace cap.

Towed spraying with wide angle –

  • Remove the black thumb screw from the holder.
  • Depress the trigger of the lance and place barrel into the bracket with the trigger facing upwards, sliding the lance between the two containers.
  • Replace the thumb screw into the bracket and tighten, this will hold the trigger in a depresses position on the handle.
  • Ensure that the wedge nozzle is pointing in a downwards position.
  •  Depress the button on the control and check that the white anti-syphon tap is open.
  •  Commence spraying.
  • When the pump is switched off syphoning may occur, it is advisable to turn off the white anti-syphon tap when the sprayer is not in use.
