SPECIFICATIONS

SAFETY

The heater is designed and approved for use as a construction heater in accordance with StandardANSIZ83.7. CSA 2.14. Check with your local fire safety authority if you have questions about applications.
Other standards govern the use of fuel gases and heat-producing products in specific applications. Your local authority can advise you about these.
The intended use of this heater is the temporary heating of buildings or structures under construction, alteration, or repair.

ASPHYXIATION HAZARD

  • Do not use this heater for heating human living quarters.
  • Do not use in unventilated areas.
  • The flow of combustion and ventilation air must not be obstructed.
  • Proper ventilation air must be provided to support the combustion air requirements of the heater being used.
  • Refer to the specification section of the heater’s manual, heater data plate, or contact ProCom Heating, Inc. to determine combustion air ventilation requirements of the heater.
  • Lack of proper ventilation air will lead to improper combustion.
  • Improper combustion can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning leading to serious injury or death. Symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning can include headaches dizziness and difficulty in breathing.

1. Keep children and animals away from the heater.
2. Never operate a heater while sleeping or unattended.
3. Check the heater thoroughly for damage. Do not operate a damaged heater.
4. Do not modify the heater or operate a heater that has been modified from its original condition.
5. Use only propane gas.
6. Use only vapor withdrawal propane sup-ply. If there is any question about vapor withdrawal, ask your propane dealer.
7. For either indoor or outdoor use. Adequate ventilation must be provided. Provide minimum openings of 1 sq ft (0.093 m2) near the floor and 1 sq ft. (0.093 m2) near the ceiling. Do not use inside house, camper, tent, vehicle, or any type of unvented or enclosed area.
8. Do not use the heater in the basement or below ground level.
9. Before connecting the heater to the propane tank, make sure the heater regulator knob is in the OFF position. Always connect and light heater in areas free of open flames.
10. Mount the propane cylinders vertically (shutoff valve up). Secure them from falling or being knocked over and protect them from damage.
11. IMPORTANT: Use only the hose and regulator assembly provided with the tank top heater. Inspect hose assembly before each use. If there is excessive abrasion or wear, or the hose is cut, replace it with the hose assembly listed on the parts list before using the heater. Hose and regulator must be protected from damage.
12. The heater burner must be at least 2 ft. (0.61 m) above the floor. Always attach to a propane tank in an upright position. Never operate a heater on its side or attach to the propane tank in a horizontal position. This could lead to dangerous flare-ups or fire. Do not direct heat toward propane cylinders within 20 ft (6 m). 13. Maintain minimum clearance from nor-mal combustible materials (like paper) as follows:

Sides 3 ft. (0.91 m)
Top 4 ft. (1.3 m)
Floor to Bottom of tank 0″
Floor to Bottom of a burner 2 ft. (0.6 m)

Locate 10 ft. (3 m) from canvas or plastic tarpaulins or similar coverings and secure them to prevent flapping or movement due to wind action.
14. The appliance area is kept clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
15. If at any time gas odor is detected, IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE operation until the source of gas has been located and corrected.
16. Install the heater such that it is not directly exposed to water spray, rain, dripping water, and/or wind.
17. Position the heater properly before use. Oper-ate only on a stable, level surface.
18. Due to the high surface and exhaust temperatures, adults and children must observe clearances to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
19. Do not move, handle or service while hot or burning. Do not attach or remove a hot or operating heater from the propane tank.
20. Before each use, check the heater for leaks. Never use an open flame to check for leaks. Apply a mixture of liquid soap and water to all joints. Bubbles forming show a leak. Correct all leaks.
21. Keep all connections and fittings clean. Make sure the propane tank valve is clean. Check the “0” ring on the heater inlet fuel valve connector for damage before each use. Replace if worn or damaged.
22. Use only in accordance with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the Standard for the Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases ANSI/NFPA 58 and CSA 8149.1, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code.
This appliance is not for use at altitudes above 2,000 feet.

VENTILATION

WARNING: Air Quality Hazard

  • Do not use this heater for heating human living quarters.

  • Use of direct-fired heaters in the construction environment can result in exposure to levels of CO, CO2, and NO2 considered to be hazardous to health and potentially life-threatening.

  • Do not use in unventilated areas

  • Know the signs of CO and CO2 poisoning
    o Headaches, stinging eyes
    o Dizziness, disorientation
    o Difficulty breathing, feels of being suffocated

  • Proper ventilation air exchange (OSHA 29 CFR 1926.57) to support combustion and maintain acceptable air quality shall be provided in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926.154, ANSI A10.10 Safety Requirements for Temporary and Portable Space Heating Devices and Equipment used in the Construction Industry or the Natural Gas and Propane Installation Codes CSA B149.1.
    o Periodically monitor levels of CO, CO2, and NO2 existing at the construction site – at the minimum at the start of the shift and after 4 hours.
    o Provide ventilation air exchange, either natural or mechanical, as required to maintain acceptable indoor air qualityUSA 8-Hr Time-weighted average

ASSEMBLY

Check for the following items:

Tank Collar Bracket
Machine Screws M4 X 8 (2)
Check all heater parts for damage. If any heater part is damaged, promptly inform the dealer where you bought the heater.
Note: The tank collar bracket must be assembled before the heaters may be assembled to the propane tank

  1. Align bolt holes in the tank collar bracket with bolt holes in the mounting plate on the heater.

  2. Drive-in two machine screws (supplied) into the bolt holes attaching tank collar bracket to mounting plate

  3. Read and follow all of the safety and operating precautions.

  4. Check the “O” ring on the POL before each use. Replace the “O” ring if there is any sign of wear or damage.

  5. Make sure the heater regulator knob is in the OFF position. If not, turn the heater Control Knob counterclockwise to the OFF position.

  6. Attach the heater to the guard on the propane cylinder as shown in Figure 1.

  7. Insert regulator’s connector into the tank valve connection and turn counterclockwise until tight.

  8. Securely tighten all gas connections.

  9. Open the cylinder’s gas valve and check all connections for leaks. Apply a noncorrosive leak detection fluid to gas joints. Bubbles forming show a leak that must be corrected. DO NOT USE A FLAME.

OPERATION

WARNING : Attach the heater in an upright position. Never attach the heater in a horizontal position.
This could lead to dangerous flare-ups or fire.

TO START HEATER

WARNING: When lighting the heater DO NOT look over the top of the heater (reflector). Stand to the side of the heater during ignition.
Do not stand or have any part of your body over the heater. 

WARNING: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO OPEN FLAME IN THE AREA. Fully open the valve on the propane cylinder.

Read all lighting instructions before attempting to ignite the heater.

  1. Turn the heater regulator knob counterclockwise  to the OFF position.

  2. Place a lit match near the face of the heating element (mesh screen) of the burner you are lighting, Locate the ignition hole located on the bottom of the
    burners. (see Figure 2.)
    CAUTION: Do not light at the orifice.

  3. Press button on safety valve admitting gas burner (see Figure 2).
    WARNING: Do not press the valve button before inserting the match.

  4. When the gas on the face of the mesh screen lights, continue to hold the valve button pressed for 30 seconds, then release.

  5. If the flame goes out, wait 5 minutes and repeat the lighting procedure.

  6. If the heater will not light after repeated tries, do not attempt to repair the heater. Call Customer Service toll free at 1-866-573-0674

  7. Choose either HIGH or LOW setting for operation depending on the heating requirements.

LIGHTING UNDER WINDY CONDITIONS
When lighting this heater outdoors on a windy day, it will be necessary to use a long match or long stem butane lighter to ignite o keep the match lit long enough under windy conditions. Follow the “Lighting Instructions” procedure after doing the following: the burner. Remember, it may be difficult t

  1. Position the heater and tank such that the Thermocouple faces away from the wind.
  2. Position your body behind the heater such that your body blocks the wind while you are following the instructions for lighting.

TO STOP HEATER

  1. Securely close the valve on the propane cylinder.
  2. Turn the heater regulator knob clockwise to the OFF position. Wait 15 minutes for the heater to cool down before handling the heater.
  3. Always remove heater from the propane tank after each use. Do not store the heater while attached to a propane tank. Remove the heater from the propane tank by turning fuel connec­tor nut clockwise. Always store propane tank outdoors. Never store a propane tank in an enclosed area.

TO RESTART HEATER

  1. Securely close valve on the propane cylinder.
  2. Wait 5 minutes.
  3. Restart following the To Start Heater procedure.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

  2. Before each use, check the soft “O” ring seat at the bullnose of the POL fitting. If seat at the bullnose of the POL fitting. If “O” ring is cut, scuffed, or otherwise damaged, replace it.

  3.  Inspect hose/regulator assembly before each use. If the hose is highly worn or cut, replace it. Use only a replacement hose specified on page 10. specified on page 10.

  4. Turn off gas at the propane gas supply cylinder when the heater is not in use.

  5. When the heater is to be stored, the connection between propane gas supply cylinder and heater must be disconnected and cylinder removed from heater and stored out of doors and in accordance with Chapter 5 of the standard for Storage and. Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases ANSI/NFPA 58 Handling  of Liquefied Petroleum Gases ANSI/NFPA 58

  6. Use compressed air to gently blow out any dirt or debris from the burner tube.

SERVICING

A hazardous condition may result if a heater is used that has been modified or is not tune is used that has been modified or is not functioning properly. When the heater is working properly:

  • Emitter screen is glowing bright orange-red.
  • There are no flames above the burner.
  • There are no flames above the burner.
  • Flame is burning on the surface of the screen and not inside the burner (flashback). not inside burner (flashback).
  • There is no strong disagreeable odor, eye burning or other physical discomfort.
  • There is no smoke or soot internal or external to the heater.
  • There are no unplanned or unexplained shutdowns of the heater.

The parts lists and exploded view show the heater as it was constructed. Do not use a heater that is different from that shown. In this regard, use only the hose,  regulator, and cylinder connection fitting (called a POL fitting) cylinder connection fitting (called a POL fitting) supplied with the heater.
IMPORTANT: For this heater, the regulator must be set as shown in Specifications Specifications, page 3. If there is any uncertainty about the regulator setting, have it checked.

ProCom Heating, Inc. warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and components for ONE (1)year from the date of first purchase, provided that the product has been properly installed by a qualified (1)year from the date of first purchase, provided that the product has been properly installed by a  qualified installer in accordance with all local codes and instructions furnished with the unit, operated and maintained in accordance with all applicable instructions.
To make a claim under this warranty, the Bill of Sale or canceled check must be presented.

RESPONSIBILITY OF OWNER
This warranty is extended only to the original retail purchaser. This warranty covers the cost of the part(s) required to restore this heater to proper operating condition. Warranty part(s) MUST be obtained through ProCom Heating, Inc. which will provide original factory replacement parts. Failure to use original factory replacement parts voids this warranty. The heater MUST be installed by a qualified installer in accordance with replacement parts voids this warranty. WHAT IS NOT COVERED
This warranty does not apply to parts that are not in original condition because of normal wear and tear or parts that fail or become damaged as a result of misuse, accidents, lack of proper maintenance or defects caused by improper installation. Travel, diagnostic cost, labor, transportation, and any and all such other costs related to repairing a defective heater will be the responsibility of the owner.
TO THE FULL EXTENT ALLOWED BY THE LAW OF THE JURISDICTION THAT GOVERNS THE SALE OF THE PRODUCT, THIS EXPRESS  WARRANTY EXCLUDES ANY AND ALL OTHER EXPRESSED WARRANTIES AND LIMITS THE DURATION OF ANY AND ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES. INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE TO TWO (2) YEARS ON  ALL COMPONENTS FROM THE DATE OF FIRST PURCHASE.
