Dear customer
First of all, we thank you for choosing RANCILIO. We are confident that the
product you have purchased will meet all your expectations. The coffee machine
you are about to use is the outcome of extensive research and development. It
is the most efficient, user-friendly and well designed machine of its kind.
This manual outlines the correct use and maintenance and will help you to get
the best results from your machine. We hope you will find our explanations
clear and we may continue to earn your business in the future.
The machines in the SILVIA series have been designed to prepare espresso and
other hot beverages for domestic use. They also can be used in staff kitchen
areas in shops, offices and other working environments (i.e. farm houses; by
clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast and other residential type
environments).
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
Read all instructions.
The appliance is not to be used by children under 8 years old or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
Children should not play with the machine, whether they are supervised or unsupervised.
Keep the packed machine in a dry place, not exposed to environmental elements
and in conditions in which the temperature does not go below 5°C.
Do not place heavy items on the packaging. Do not stack more than three items
of the same kind.
Do not cover with cloths, etc.
Don’t leave the packing elements (plastic bags, expanded polystyrene, nails,
cardboard, etc.) within the reach of children, as these elements are potential
sources of danger.
To disconnect, turn any control to «off», then remove plug from wall outlet.
Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
If liquids inside the machine freeze, leave the coffee machine in a place with
a minimum temperature of 20°C for at least 20 minutes before switching it on.
Never put any vessels filled with liquid on top of the machine.
Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
Improper installation and use can cause damage to people, animals and things
for which the manufacturer cannot be considered responsible.

Do not use outdoors.
Leave enough free space around the machine to facilitate its use and the
performance of any maintenance operations.
Install the machine on a flat, stable, dry and water repellent surface
(laminate, steel, ceramic, etc.) away from heat sources (oven, cooking stove,
fireplace, etc.) and in conditions in which the temperature may not go below
5°C (41° F). KEEP WARM.
The machine must not be set up in areas where water tubes or high pressure
cleaners are in use! Do not immerse the machine!
Do not leave the machine exposed to environmental elements or place it in a
damp room such as bathrooms.
The maximum inclination of support surface must be below 5 ° to prevent
overturning.
Switch off the machine and disconnect from power supply before opening the
machine or disengaging parts that move when in use.
Use only original spare parts in order to avoid compromising the safety and
proper functioning of the machine.
The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer
may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
In an emergency, such as fire, unusual noise, overheating, etc., take
immediate action, disconnect the power and contact customer service.
Heating element surface is subject to residual heat after use.
For the power supply, the data listed on the type plate must be carefully
consulted! When in doubt, contact customer service.
It is inadvisable to use adapters, multiple sockets and / or extensions. When
their use is indispensable, only approved products may be used. Check that the
current capacity limit indicated on the adapters exceeds the absorption
capacity (A = ampere) of the equipment.
If the power supply cable to the machine is damaged it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or his service personnel or an authorized electrician in order to
prevent any risks.
To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons do not immerse
cord or plugs in water or other liquid.
Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the
appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner.
Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination,
repair or adjustment.
To reduce the risk of injury, do not drape cord over the counter top or table
top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

Set up the coffee machine

Put machine on a level and stable surface
Leave enough free space around| Fill water tank (ca. 2 litres)
Use fresh water

**** Don’t switch on the machine before having filled the water tank to avoid
damaging the heating element!
For the first installation or after a long stop refer to the chapter «Set up
the coffee machine».
Use
Wait for the orange light «boiler heating» to switch off
Don‘t touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
Check frequently the water level in the tank. Refill if necessary!

Flush brewing group| Brush the seal under the group head

Insert blind filter disk, add cleaning detergent for espresso coffee machines|

Empty drip tray| Unlock the filter basket, clean all parts
Rinse with hot water to dissolve any coffee oil residue

Insert filter basket into porta-filter and insert into group head, reattach
cup-holder grid| Clean housing with damp cloth
**** Follow the grain of the satin finish on stainless steel parts
Daily cleaning of steam wand
Do not use abrasive sponges and detergents or solvents! If cleaner is
required, follow the instructions on the package!

Remove the screws on top
Remove the cup tray

Reset the safety thermostat
To adjust the water pump pressure or to reset the safety thermostat, unplug the machine and wait until it has completely cooled down
