Safety
Intended use
This infrared thermometer is intended for contactless temperature measurement.
It measures the infrared energy emitted from an object, which makes it ideal
for measuring the temperature of hot objects that are diffi cult to reach or are
moving. The thermometer measures the surface temperature of an object over the
range from -50°C to +550°C.
The infrared thermometer must only be used in a dry environment and only as
described in these instructions for use. Any other use is considered improper
use and may result in damage or injury. The manufacturer and supplier accept
no liability for damage caused by improper or incorrect use.
Warnings
Read these instructions for use through carefully, as they contain important information on how to operate and use this infrared thermometer. The instructions for use are an integral part of the device and must therefore be kept safe. The infrared thermometer must only be passed on to third parties together with the instructions for use.
To avoid malfunctions, damage or health hazards, please adhere to the following safety instructions. If the safety instructions and the information on proper handling contained in these instructions for use are deliberately or negligently ignored, there is a risk of damage to the user’s or other people’s eyesight. In such cases, the manufacturer, Detlev Louis Motorrad- Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH (Switzerland: Detlev Louis AG) accepts no liability for any resultant personal injury/material damage; the warranty will also be rendered null and void.
Safety instructions
Danger for children and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities (e.g. partially disabled persons, elderly persons with reduced physical and mental abilities) or lack of experience and knowledge!
- Do not leave packaging material lying around. It could become a dangerous toy for children. Dispose of any packaging that is no longer required, or keep it out of the reach of children. Risk of asphyxiation!
- This device is not designed for use by persons (including children) who havereduced physical, sensory or mental abilities, or those with little experience or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety during use of the device.
Risk of injury!
-
The laser beam must only be used if there is nobody in the projection range.
-
Laser beams can be dangerous if the beam or a refl ection enters the unprotected eye.
-
If laser beams enter the eye and cause irritation, it is imperative that you consult a doctor. Do not under any circumstances carry out any further safety-relevant work on
machines or work at heights. You must also avoid driving motor vehicles. -
Never direct the laser beam at mirrors or other refl ective surfaces. The uncontrolled defl ected beam could hit people or animals.
-
Never open the device. Adjustments and maintenance work must only be carried out by qualifi ed specialists.
-
The device is equipped with a class 2 laser.
IMPORTANT!
Risk of damage!
- The infrared thermometer is only suitable for use in a dry environment. If you intend to use it outdoors, you must fi rst make sure that the weather conditions are suitable.
- Water vapour, dust and smoke can damage the optics of the device, leading to incorrect measurements.
- Avoid operating the device in the direct vicinity of strong magnetic or electromagnetic fi elds, as they may falsify the measurement.
- The infrared thermometer must not be exposed to high temperatures or be used in explosive gases or dusts.
- Never switch on the infrared thermometer immediately after taking it from a cold environment into a warm one to avoid condensation forming, which may damage the device. Condensation on the lens can cause incorrect measurements.
- Remove the battery if the device is not used for a prolonged period. Leaking batteries can cause acid burns in case of skin contact.

Distance to spot size (D:S)
When taking a measurement, observe the correct distance to spot size. As the distance from the target surface (D) increases, the spot size (S) of the area measured by the device becomes larger.
The device has a distance-to-spot-size ratio of 12:1.
This device is equipped with a laser to make aiming easier.
Make sure that the target is larger than the device’s spot size. The smaller the target, the closer the measuring distance. If accuracy is important, make sure that the target object is at least twice as big as the spot size.
Emission level
Most organic materials and painted or oxidised surfaces have an emission level
of 0.95 (this value is preset on the device).
Measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces will produce imprecise readings.
To compensate for this, the emission level display on the device will need to
be adjusted or the surface being measured will need to be covered with dark
adhesive tape.
The temperatures of the adhesive tape and the surface being measured must then
be able to align. The surface which is covered with adhesive tape can now be
measured.
It is not possible to take measurements through transparent surfaces, such as glass or plastic.

Inserting the battery
Open the battery compartment and connect a 9 V alkaline battery with the correct polarity. Stow the battery in the battery compartment and close the compartment properly.
Switching on the device
Press the trigger (1) to switch on the device and display the temperature value. In the meantime SCAN appears.
Temperature measurement
Press and hold the trigger (1) – SCAN appears on the display. Release the trigger and the device switches to HOLD mode in order to save the measurement automatically. The device switches off automatically after approximately 60 seconds if it is not operated again.
Whilst pressing the trigger (1), the laser beam ON/OFF button (2) can be used
to switch the laser on or off, as required. appears on the display.
To find cold or hot areas on an object, proceed as follows.
Settings
Changing the temperature unit
Switch on the device with the trigger (1). Press button (2) to switch the temperature unit between degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. The respective symbol appears on the display. The temperature unit can only be changed in MAX, MIN, AVG and DIF modes.
Backlight
Switch on the device with the trigger (1). To switch the backlight for the display on or off, press button (4) whilst holding the trigger (1). The symbol appears on the display.
Calling up values
Press the SET button (5) repeatedly to call up the values MAX-AVG-MIN-DIF-
LAL-HAL-OFFSET-E on the display one by one for the respective measurement.
This device has a memory function – the measured values are displayed again
the next time you switch on.
MAX: Maximum temperature of the preceding measurement
MIN: Minimum temperature of the preceding measurement
DIF: Difference between the MAX and MIN of the preceding measurement
AVG: Average temperature of the preceding measurement
HAL: High temperature alarm – If HAL is selected, buttons 4 and 2 can be
used to set the value at which an alarm is triggered. To save the setting,
press the SET button (5). If the measured value exceeds the set value, the HI
symbol appears on the display and a beep sounds.
LAL: Low temperature alarm – If LAL is selected, buttons 4 and 2 can be
used to set the value at which an alarm is triggered. To save the setting,
press the SET button (5). If the measured value drops below the set value, the
LOW symbol appears on the display and a beep sounds.
OFFSET: Zero offset setting
Setting the emission level
Switch on the device with the trigger (1). Press the EMS button (6) to change the preconfi gured emission value (0.95). You can use buttons 4 and 2 to set the value. You then confi rm it with the EMS button (6).

No temperature display. | Battery is low |
• Replace the battery
The device beeps when measuring.| The surface temperature is above or below
the set alarm range
• Adjust the alarm range as necessary.
The battery symbol appears on the display| Battery is low
• Change the battery
Cleaning and care
Use a soft cloth to clean the housing. Do not use harsh solvents, such as
thinner or petrol, nor scouring agents, as these will damage the surface.
The best way to remove any dust from the lens is with compressed air.
Never immerse the device in water.
Changing the battery
If the battery symbol appears on the display, the battery should be replaced urgently. Open the battery cover, carefully remove the battery by gripping the connection cable and disconnect it cautiously from the connection contact. Fit a new battery with the same specifi cation -> 9 V alkaline. Connect the new battery properly to the connection contact and insert it in the battery compartment. Then close the cover again.
