- All steps must be followed to ensure the product will function properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
- When the hitch cover is flipped open to accept an accessory, the inner tailgate panel will not operate.
- When the hitch cover is closed, the inner taillgate panel will operate normally.
- In either open or closed position the truck’s taillights will flash when the button on the truck or key fob is pushed.
- Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.

Step 1
To assemble the accessory sensor, place the top half of the sensor (#1) over
the top of the receiver tube. Place the bottom half of the sensor (#2) around
the bottom of the receiver tube. The two components will fit together
to enclose around the receiver tube.
To secure the two halves together, place the provided flat washers (#5) over
the two socket head cap screws (#4). Insert the assembled screws through the
top half of the sensor and secure with nylock nuts (#6). Use a 5/32″ Allen
wrench to tighten. Note: Tighten each side in equal increments to make sure
thethe sensor stays square on the receiver tube.
Step 2
From under the vehicle, route the sensor wiring harness (#1) along the
passenger side to the point just after the trailer hitch main body bends.
Next, route the harness between the bumper and trailer hitch. From here, route
the harness up above the spare tire.
In the rear of the truck bed, locate the factory wiring harness running to the
tailgate and route the sensor wiring harness alongside it out from underneath
the vehicle.
Route the sensor wiring harness through the hole near the tailgate. Zip tie
(#7) the wiring in place so it does not hang below the vehicle.
Step 3
CAUTION
Make sure there are no accessories in the receiver tube that can hit the
tailgate.
Press the lower button on the tailgate to lower the tailgate.
Step 4
Using a Torx T-20 bit, remove the 10 screws in the main part of the tailgate
as shown.
Lift the plastic panel closest to the truck bed up and locate the single push
fastener in the center of the panel. Remove the push fastener using a trim
panel removal tool and set the plastic panel aside.
Step 5
Open the inner tailgate panel by pressing the upper button on the tailgate.
Starting on the passenger side, use a 1/2″ socket to remove the four tailgate
and multi-function locking mechanism fasteners. Remove the outer tailgate
locking mechanism fasteners (main tailgate) first, followed by the inner
tailgate mechanism fasteners (multi-function feature).
Step 6
Starting on the passenger side, remove the outer (main) tailgate locking
mechanism. Separate the connectors by pushing the red tab towards the wires
and pressing the locking tab to remove the connector from the locking
mechanism. Take care not to damage locking tabs.
Remove the inner tailgate panel locking mechanism. Separate the connectors by
pushing the red tab towards the wires and pressing the locking tab to remove
the connector from the locking mechanism.
Take care not to damage locking tabs. Locate the label on the taillight wiring
harness that states passenger side. Insert the wiring harness (#3) between the
inner locking mechanism and
the factory wiring and reassemble. Repeat steps 5 and 6 on\ the driver side of
the tailgate.
Step 7
Route the wiring harness (#3) along the existing factory harnesses and zip
tie in place. Route the wiring harness to the center of the tailgate.
Step 8
Locate the sensor wiring harness (#1) routed in Step 2. It will be between the
bed of the truck and the tailgate. Connect the sensor harness into the wiring
harness (#3).
Close the main tailgate and loosely zip tie any loose wires to the factory
harness. Open the main tailgate and reinstall the tailgate cover.
