Instructions

STEP 1

DRILL HOLE

  • Drill a 1/2″ hole 1″ below the bottom of the rim at the top of the skimmer. Exact location for the water fill valve will be different for each skimmer. Make sure that the drill hole is set well above the final water level.

STEP 2

REMOVE NUT AND RING

  • Remove the brass compression nut and compression ring from the threaded end of fill valve. Discard these fittings.

STEP 3

REMOVE BRASS HEX NUT

  • Remove the brass hex nut from threaded end of the float valve, leaving only the rubber washer on the fill valve.

STEP 4

INSERT FILL VALVE

  • Insert threaded end of fill valve through the 1/2″ hole drilled in the skimmer.
NOTE: The rubber washer must be located on the inside of the skimmer wall.

STEP 5

TIGHTEN BRASS HEX NUT

  • Tighten the brass hex nut, securing the fill valve to the skimmer box.

STEP 6

THREAD FLEX HOSE

  • Thread the 1/2″ braided stainless steel flex hose to the threaded end of the fill valve.

STEP 7

POLY PIPE VS PVC

  • If using poly pipe, thread the plastic barbed fitting to the other side of the braided stainless steel flex hose. If using pvc, use the MPT x slip fitting.

STEP 8

CONNECT IRRIGATION LINE

  • Connect a 1/2″ irrigation line to the barbed fitting and tighten with the hose clamp provided in the water fill valve kit.

STEP 9

TRENCH IRRIGATION LINE

  • Trench 1/2″ poly-pipe irrigation line to water spigot and connect using a brass garden hose adaptor. The irrigation line can be buried a few inches below the surface of the soil.

Adjusting the Water Fill Valve

  •  Initial positioning of fill valve arm can be made by loosening the thumbscrew and wing nut found on the axle of the fill valve arm and adjusting the angle of the arm.
NOTE: If the thumbscrew and wing nut are not loosened prior to adjustment, the axle point on the arm may be stripped (Ex. 1).

  •  Final adjustments of the fill valve should be made while the pump is operating and the water in the pond is at the desired level.

  •  Final adjustments can be made by simply bending the fill arm until the fill valve shuts the water off at the desired level (Ex. 2).

General Maintenance

  • The water fill valve requires no additional maintenance once it is set to the desired water level.
  •  Regular pond maintenance, such as removing debris from the skimmer basket or net will help the water fill valve to operate accurately.
  •  Winter preparation – The water fill valve will not operate during extended freezing temperatures. Simply detach the brass garden hose adaptor from water spigot. No additional steps need to be taken to clear water from the 1/2″ poly-pipe.
