Logitech for Creators 988-000100 Yeti USB Microphone

Logitech for Creators Blue Yeti USB Microphone

Introduction

For YouTube videos, Twitch game streaming, podcasting, Zoom meetings, music recording, and other uses, this professional USB mic generates loud, clear, broadcast-quality sound. Improve your streaming and recording quality with broadcast vocal clarity, and enchant your audience with HD audio samples, powerful modulation, and increased effects. Flexible cardioid, omni, bidirectional, and stereo pickup patterns enable you to record vocals, instruments, and podcasts in ways that would typically need multiple microphones.

You have complete control over every aspect of the audio recording and streaming process thanks to the onboard audio controls, including the headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and mic gain. The adjustable desktop stand allows you to position the microphone in respect to the sound source to improve sound quality while tracking your speech in real time with no delay. Start recording and streaming on a Mac or PC immediately by using the supplied desktop stand to quickly set up the computer microphone, or by connecting it straight to a mic stand or boom arm.

GETTING STARTED WITH YETI

After unpacking your Yeti, rotate the microphone 180 degrees so that the Blue logo and headphone volume control are facing you. Tighten the set-screws on the left and right of the base after adjusting the microphone to your desired angle. Connect Yeti to your computer with the supplied USB cable—the LED just above the Blue logo will glow red, indicating power has reached the mic.

Yeti is a side-address microphone, which means you should speak, sing, and play into the side of the microphone with the Blue logo facing the sound source, not the top of the microphone. Now you can start recording and streaming in stunning audio quality.

SOFTWARE SETUP

Whatever your favorite software is—Audacity, Garageband, iMovie, Ableton, Skype, you name it—Yeti will produce amazing results. Simply plug the mic into your Mac or PC, select Yeti as your recording input within your selected software, and start recording—no drivers required. It’s that easy.

For game streamers, Yeti is compatible with most popular live-streaming software programs including Discord, Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), XSplit, Gameshow and more.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR YETI

  • TRIPLE CAPSULE ARRAY: Three condenser capsules in an innovative configuration to enable great recordings in most any situation.
  • MICROPHONE  GAIN: Control Yeti’s gain (sensitivity). Turn the knob right to increase the level, and left to reduce the level.\
  • MULTIPLE PATTERN SELECTION:  Quickly select from Yeti’s four pattern settings (stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional) by rotating the pattern selector knob.
  • MUTE BUTTON/STATUS LIGHT: Press the mute button to mute/unmute. When muted, the LED status light will flash.
  • HEADPHONE VOLUME CONTROL: Easily adjust Yeti’s headphone output by turning the volume knob.
  • HEADPHONE OUTPUT: Yeti includes a standard 1/8” (3.5mm) headphone jack for monitoring and playback. Use Yeti’s headphone output to monitor your microphone recording in real time, without latency delays.
  • USB CONNECTION: Yeti connects to your computer with one simple USB cable.
  • STANDARD THREAD MOUNT: If you would like to mount your Yeti to a standard microphone studio mount, remove Yeti from the included desk stand and thread in a standard threaded mount. For broadcast applications, we recommend the Compass desktop boom arm. To isolate Yeti from noise, shock, and ambient vibration, add the Radius III shockmount.

SWITCHABLE POLAR PATTERNS

STEREO

Uses both the left and right channels to capture a wide, realistic sound image—ideal for recording acoustic guitar or choir.

OMNIDIRECTIONAL

Picks up sound equally from

all around the mic. It’s best used in situations when you want to capture the ambience of “being there”—like recording a band’s live performance, a multi- person podcast or a conference call.

CARDIOID

Perfect for podcasts, game streaming, vocal performances, voiceovers and instruments.

Cardioid mode records sound sources that are directly in front of the microphone, delivering rich, full-bodied sound.

BIDIRECTIONAL

Records from both the front and rear of the microphone— good for recording a duet or a two-person interview.

Frequently Asked Questions

do you need a poop filter for this****

One should never rely on a poop filter alone. For safety reasons, a poop filter should ALWAYS be used in conjunction with a high-quality SFS.

does it work for singing?****

It does work for singing. I have recorded songs with it and it comes out beautifully.

Will this make me get gud?****

This mic will give you perfect accuracy so you can mow down squads and use the infamous words.

About how long is the USB cable that it comes with?****

The cable is exactly 80 1/2 inches (i.e., 6 ft. 8 1/2 in.) from the tip of the USB Type A plug to the tip of the USB mini Type B plug. Of course, the manufacturer, Blue Microphones/Blue Designs, should provide this information, but I could find it nowhere in the company’s literature.

What pop filters work best for the Blue Yeti?****

The one I purchased from Amazon–Auphonix? or something close–was about $15. the best part about it was that it could be mounted on the mic base, then wound around to cover the front of the mic. Ideal for “close-in” broadcasting, during which the pops and hisses are most noticeable. Later: I see that I ordered both the Auphonix filter and, a little bit later, the Zramo pop filter, which is only 10 bucks. Try the latter first, and if you don’t like it, go with the Auphonix.

I need a better mic for Live Streaming, can I set this mic at about 2.5 ft away and have it still pick up my voice? I don’t want to be eating the mic.****

I practiced this. In a 12×10 bedroom, I could set the mic in one corner and it would pick my voice up if I was standing in the other corner of the room. Also, I recorded my first podcast a couple weeks ago. I had five people around a circular table about 4 ft in diameter. The mic picked up 4 of 5 voices very well. The fellow who was barely audible speaks softly and has a deep voice. He has interviewed by a local NPR affiliate and they also had issues picking up his voice in their studio. My feeling is if you are 2-2-1/2 feet away and speak with a clear voice, you should be fine.

Can you put this microphone near a desktop computer and have it no pick up the keyboard typing noises ?****

It really depends on whether or not you have a soft touch keyboard. The microphone is very sensitive and you can set the record feature to be one directional, but I doubt if the keyboarding sound will be eliminated completely. I use it with my desktop, but I never type at the same time. I wouldn’t count on having the sound totally undetected.

Does the mic come with any software for recording, or do you have any recommendations on good (easy to use) recording software for PC.****

The mic itself doesn’t come with any software. It’s plug-n-play to the bone. But that’s ok, because you can download Audacity for free for PC and Macs. Really powerful software, simple to learn.

How far away can you stand from the mic and have it still pick your voice up clearly?****

For any mic, you generally have to be pretty close for it to pick up your voice clearly with no ambient sounds or echoes. That being said, my Yeti was able to pick up my normal voice from about 20 feet away pretty easily, but it also picked up the echoes from the room I was in as well as the fan of my computer and my footsteps on my carpet. The mic isn’t that sensitive when the gain is all the way down, though.

Will these work for multiplayer gaming? If I setup it up for single direction, it will cancel a lot of the noise coming from other directions?****

Yes. Many YouTube game streamers and play through recordings have been done on Blue Yeti. It will cancel noise from your left and right if you set the recording to Cardoid mode (the third option from the dial). Been using it for Multiplayer and some light streaming on Twitch, and friends have commented and asked why my voice was much nicer and clearer.

Can it run on windows 10****

Yes, this works just fine on Win 10.

Will this cancel outside noise? need to use it for google hangout meetings and currently it’s hard for those on gho to hear from the outside noise****

I know your concern, as a partner streamer on hitbox.tv it’s important to cancel out outside noise. Yes. There is a knob on the mic itself that you can adjust for this. Example, I have a fan behind my green screen, and when I do a live broadcast all I have to do is turn down the sensitivity of the mic and change the mic settings itself to ONLY pick up sounds in front of it.

how is this product for recording live music (specifically guitar) ?****

I’m not sure how good it works with live music personally. However I have noticed many people use the Blue Yeti to record cover songs on YouTube. This video is a great example of that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhuXsg6T5Wk

Is Blue Yeti compatible with Windows 8?

Not from my experience. Win 8 does not recognize the microphone. On Jan 13, 2013 I received the following from Yeti – “Currently our design and engineering staff is testing the new Windows 8 operating system along with our USB products for compatibility. Please check back in the near future for more information regarding this matter.”

difference between silver and platinum yeti models****

The Platinum edition lists as being 0.5 lbs. heavier than the Silver, despite having the exact same features. Additionally, the a slightly more gun metal, or anodized color tone, seeming just a bit sepia-like. The Silver is a much cleaner looking silver color. Both have a deep matte finish.
