Operation and maintenance

NOTICE

  • Check the product’s readiness for use before each use!
  • Open the pocket and verify that the green securing clip is attached to the side of the trigger mechanism.
  • If the securing clip is missing, the CO2 cartridge may be empty.

In this case, unscrew the CO2 cartridge.

  • If the cartridge is pierced at its opening, it is empty and must be replaced.

  • Verify that the buoy is in the correct position in the pocket.

The nut on the trigger mechanism must face the label with the nut symbol sewn into the pocket.

  • Rope and ring webbing must be stashed completely into the stash bag.

  • Trigger mechanism and trigger cord must be free.

  • Carabiner must not be hooked into any other parts.

  • CO2-cartridge must be covered by the cartridge protection cover

How do I fasten RESTUBE correctly?

WARNING

  • Wearing the product loosely or open is dangerous!
  • The product must be tightly secured to prevent loss and enable functionality.
  • The provided hip belt (38mm wide) may be inserted vertically or horizontally into the back of the pocket.

  • The options for attaching the strap have differentadvantages for wearing the pocket on land or for practicing water sports. The user may choose the most suitable position depending on the application and personal preferences.

NOTICE

  • When using a vertical position the pocket must be worn so that the trigger faces downward!
  • In horizontal position the trigger has to face towards the front of your body.
  • Detach hip belt from pocket.
  • Velcro 6e on the hip belt must face upwards.
  • Insert the hip belt through the horizontal or vertical belt guide (black fabric) on the back of the pocket until velcro 6e connects to velcro 6d inside of the belt guide
  • This prevents the pocket from moving along the hip belt.

  • The patch on the back of the pocket (belt guide) allows you to insert your own webbings with a width of up to 50mm.
  • Insert the webbing horizontally or vertically under the black patch (belt guide).

Fastening

  • Open the buckle and place the waist belt around the hips
  • Fasten the buckle securely and adjust the hip belt to fittightly.
  • Wear the pocket so that the RESTUBE logo faces outward and the strap positioner rests against the body.
  • Fasten the buckle securely and adjust the waist strap to fit tightly.
  • Wear RESTUBE on your right, so that the trigger is easily accessible with your left hand.

Use in combination with other equipment

  • If RESTUBE lifeguard is used in combination with other equipment or if it is mounted onto other equipment, the user must make sure that the functionality of the equipment will not be impaired.
  • Using RESTUBE lifeguard this way is at the users own risk. There are many different kinds of safety equipment (e.g. life jackets, fin belts, other belts).
  • That’s why RESTUBE cannot guarantee that RESTUBE lifeguard can be mounted onto each kind of equipment. In any mounting case, the RESTUBE logo must face outwards, so that the pocket can open without difficulty. The trigger must be easily accessible and must face downwards or off to the side.
  • Make sure that the trigger is easily accessible and free.
  • The inflation of the buoy as well as the opening of the pocket must not be impaired.
  • If mounted onto other equipment without using the RESTUBE hip belt, the functionality of the quick-release buckle will be lost.

Mounting onto other equipment

  • Detach hip belt.
  • Attach RESTUBE pocket to the webbing of your own equipment using the belt guides on the back of the pocket. Make sure that the pocket cannot slip sideways.
  • The belt guide allows insertion of webbings of 38mm to 50mm width, both vertically and horizontally.
  • If mounted vertically the trigger has to face downwards.

  • Position the pocket on the right side of your body so that the trigger can be reached easily with the left hand.

How do I trigger RESTUBE?

NOTICE

  • Triggering and inflation is only guaranteed in water because buoyancy pulls the buoy from the pocket! Duration until completely filled may be lengthened when triggered on land.
  • Grab the trigger with your left hand and pull away from the body firmly.
  • The buoy will unfold within seconds.

How do I use the RESTUBE?

WARNING

  • Do not unscrew CO2 cartridge while in use! After triggering, the CO2 cartridge is very cold. Avoid direct skin contact.
  • The CO2-cartridge must be put under its protection cover.
  • The execution of rescue actions must be adapted to the most up-to-date best practice.
  • The use of RESTUBE lifeguard must be adapted to the local circumstances and the current situation.
  • Therefor all necessary safety precautions for patient and rescuer must be ensured.
  • RESTUBE lifeguard does not provide protection in case of unconsciousness.
  • Consequently, the rescuer must ensure that the respiratory tracts of the patient stay above the water surface at all times.
  • By pulling gently at the ring webbing, the ring webbing and the rope will unfold out of the stash bag.
  • The fully inflated buoy can now be fixed onto the patient’s chest by hooking the carabiner into one of the rings of the ring webbing.
  • The patient’s arms must be put over the buoy.
  • To achieve a good fit of the buoy to the patient’s chest, choose the ring that fits best to the patient’s chest size.
  • The rope – in combination with the correctly attached pocket – provides a safe connection between rescuer and patient.
  • Alternatively the rescuer can use RESTUBE lifeguard without hooking the carabiner into the ring webbing.
  • Therefore he puts the buoy onto the patient’s chest from behind and takes hold of it with both hands.
  • Now the patient can be rescued.
  •  After usage detach carabiner from ring webbing, rearm RESTUBE lifeguard and repack it. (see chapter 4.5)

Inflating by mouth

WARNING

  • Never inflate the flotation device by mouth and trigger the CO2 cartridge afterwards.
  • This may cause over-inflation and serious damage. Never fill buoy with other gases!
  • Do not fill buoy with the help of an inflation device (e.g., pneumatic pump)
  • When topping off the buoy using the oral valve, do not inhale the CO2 gas from the flotation device!
  • Remove buoy from pocket.
  • Unfold buoy completely.
  • Open the cap of the oral valve.
  • Inflate buoy with your breath using the valve

How do I make RESTUBE ready for its next use?

Once RESTUBE has been triggered, it must be made ready to be used again.
You will need an original RESTUBE-CO2-Cartridge with a securing clip.

WARNING

  • Only the original RESTUBE-CO2-Cartridges are 100% quality-certified, seawater resistant, rustproof, and the force is tailored to the RESTUBE trigger!
  • Do not use comparable commercial CO2 cartridges!
  • These will not guarantee inflation of RESTUBE in an emergency.

The buoy

NOTICE
Pointed or sharp objects can damage the valve! The buoy can only be folded away correctly when there is no gas in it

Empty the buoy completely (#1)

  • Open the cap of the oral valve.
  • To release the gas from the buoy, plug the back of the cap into the oral valve.
  • Fully release gas by folding or rolling the buoy.
  • Close the cap of the oral valve.

The CO2 cartridge (#2 & #3)

RESTUBE only guarantees functionality when using the original RESTUBE- CO2-Cartridge.

  • Remove any dirt (e.g. sand)
  • Unscrew the empty CO2-cartridge and dispose of with residual waste.
  • Fold away release lever to avoid piercing the new CO2- cartridge. (#2)
  • Place the new green securing clip on the red indentation on the trigger mechanism.
  • Screw the new original RESTUBE-CO2-Cartridge tightly and up to marking into the trigger mechanism. (#3)

Put CO2-cartridge under its protection cover. (#4)

  • Longitudinal fold (#5)
    • Spread out the buoy so that the trigger mechanism is in the bottom left.
    • Fold up the upper part of the buoy backwards along the horizontal dotted line

Zigzag fold (#6)

  • Fold over the right end of the buoy to the back along the first solid line.
  • Fold over the next part to the front along the dotted line.
  • Continue until you reach the trigger.
  • The buoy is correctly folded if the C02 cartridge is on the Outside.
  • The last fold must be to the back.

Place carabiner onto the printed symbol inside the last folding. (#7)

  • Pack the folded buoy into the pocket. (#8)
  • If the buoy is not positioned correctly in the pocket, correct inflation is not guaranteed!
  • Position the folded buoy in the pocket so that the nut on the trigger mechanism is facing the label with the nut symbol (#9)

WARNING

  • Wrapping the safety leash around the buoy
  • The rope and the ring webbing must exit the pocket to the left (#10), the safety splint must exit the pock- et to the right. (#11)
  • Stash the rope first (#*12) and then the ring webbing (#13) into the stash bag
  • Rope and ring webbing must be stashed completely into the stash bag.
  • Close flap of the pocket using the velcros 6b/6c. (##14)
  • Lead splint at trigger cord alternating through the front and back webbing loops. (#15)

Storage, care, maintenance, and disposal of your RESTUBE product

Lifespan & storability

RESTUBE products are designed to have a long lifespan and can be triggered from 40 to 10O(“) times, depending on the version. Once used, the device is to be stored outside its packaging well ventilated and at a maximum temperature of 28°C. The maximum lifespan of the device is 5 years from the date of purchase, assuming that the care and maintenance instructions are followed. If used frequently (more than once per week) or in tropical climates, the product lifes- pan may be shorter. If humidity is high, the device should be removed from its box. Do not put RESTUBE products on radiators and do not dry or store them in direct sunlight.

Care

  • Maintain your RESTUBE product after every use. Five minutes of your time will help to make sure that you carry on being able to enjoy the product.
  • Take the bladder out of its bag and check all parts for external damage: Bag, bladder, trigger, trigger cord and CO2 cartridge. None of the components should show signs of heavy use, significant rust or damage.
  • Following use in saltwater or chlorinated water: Remove the bladder from its bag, and rinse both in fresh water, ensuring that the oral valve is closed and that the cartridge is screwed in first. If the product has become particularly dirty, wash it with mild detergent or a weak solution of lye and rinse it with fresh water afterwards. Do not use cleaning agents which contain alcohol or solvents.
  • The bladder and its bag should be opened and hung out to dry. Once dry, pack the system back up in accordance with the packing instructions.

Maintenance

With a little care, you will be able to maintain your undamaged RETUBE product yourself. If you are unsure about something, contact us by email: info@restube.eu We
will be happy to carry out a check for you – all you will have to pay for is the costs of postage and for any replacement parts which may be needed.

NOTE : Never carry out any repairs on your RESTUBE product yourself!

Maintenance intervals
At least every year, as well as before any longer periods of use. Additionally, maintenance should also be carried out following every inflation.

Visual check
Check all components for damage, wear or deposits: Bag & stitching, waistband and buckle, bladder, trigger, trigger cord, CO2 cartridge and CO2 cartridge thread (to do this, unscrew the cartridge and screw it back in again)

Trigger test
We suggest that you trigger your RESTUBE product in the water, so that you can experience the buoyancy yourself. Once back on land, unscrew the cartridge and move the release lever as if triggering the device. The pin should move inside the fitting for the cartridge.

Oral valve test
Remove the cap from the valve and depress the oral valve in order to allow some CO2 to escape. Afterwards, the oral valve should be completely sealed again. Next, empty the float entirely via the oral valve. Next, inflate the float via the oral valve until it is firm, using only your breath to do so.

Air-tightness of the float
Having completely inflated the float by blowing into it, leave it somewhere where the temperature is stable for 24 hours. Should it lose a lot of air during this period, the product
will need to be replaced. NOTE: Pure CO2 slowly diffuses through the material which the bladder is made of. It is therefore normal for the float to slowly empty over a period of 15- 30 hours if it has been filled with pure CO2 from the cartridge.

Getting ready for the next use
Pack the dry RESTUBE product up according to its packing instructions. Ensure that the old cartridge, which has been pierced and has a hole, is replaced with a new, intact one. NOTE: Only use genuine RESTUBE CO2 cartridges, as the inflation function can otherwise be adversely affected. The cartridges conform to EN ISO 12402-7 as well as UL 1191. They are 1. made to fit the trigger and have a very thin pierceable cap, 2. weighted for the exact amount needed to fill the bladder and 3. are very resistant to sea water.

Disposal
Bag and belt can be disposed of in the general waste. The CO2 cartridges can only be disposed of in the general waste if they are empty.
