Instruction for use
Inserting Your Earplugs
Insert the plug by grasping the end cap and inserting the ear tip until the largest flange is sealed in the ear canal entrance. To ease insertion, moisten the plug and pull the ear outward and upward. Earplugs must be inserted correctly for optimal effectiveness.
Removing Your Earplugs
Remove with a slow twisting motion.
Cleaning
- Clean after each use.
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed.
- Do not immerse earplugs in water.
- Do not clean with harsh water
- Alcohol is not recommended.
Replacement
Etymotic Research earplugs are reusable, but with repeated use, the ear tips may lose elasticity. For best performance and retention, if you use your Etymotic Research Constantly considered replacing them every 3-6 months.

A: The noise attenuation is the same. Both are “high fidelity” earplugs in that they lower the decibels to a safe level while preserving clarity. Differences–ER20XS can change the ear tips. ER20XS has an option for foam ear tips. ER20XS stem is shorter and more discreet. It fits more comfortably underneath hats, helmets and other headgear Etymotic Research. -

A: universal fit gives you 3 different replaceable fittings and is the safest choice if you want a more exact fit. Standard is what fits most people. Large that simply for those that have large ear openings. -

A: Not 100% applicable, but I was at a concert in the front row and I could still hear the shutter of the photographer standing next to me. -
Q: Can you detach the neck cord from the earplugs?
A: The etymotic earplugs I have come without neck cord attached. -

A: Just about 2.5 cm or 1 inch. -
Q : How long do they last?
A: I still have my first pair, which were not high-fidelity and they still work. The present hi-fi I’ve been wearing several times a week for more than a year now. I have to keep buying new ones because I lose them. If you regularly clean them and store them in their case, they last a long time. -

A: For the shooting range I would use foam ones that reduce the DB level more. -
Q: Does the universal fit come with a neck cord?
A: Yes, sort of. The two earpieces are held together by a very thin string just under 24″ long. That said, they’re so light I wouldn’t just leave them hanging around my neck for long with nothing holding them down: I’d worry about them getting bounced around, pulled around by shifting clothes, etc. If I need to move and stop wearing them (e.g. leaving the coffee shop) I wrap the cord around the earpieces, tuck the end of the loop between them and stick them in a secure pocket
